The <strong>Society</strong>’s Mission Statement<br />
The <strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Dementia</strong> <strong>Care</strong> is built<br />
on <strong>the</strong> premise that people liv<strong>in</strong>g with dementia<br />
have <strong>the</strong> right to dignity, to be heard and to be<br />
valued. The <strong>Society</strong> provides an <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary<br />
<strong>for</strong>um <strong>for</strong> creative expression <strong>in</strong> dementia care,<br />
br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r academic research and<br />
practical knowledge through collaboration<br />
between <strong>the</strong> medical profession and <strong>the</strong> creative<br />
arts. The <strong>Society</strong> aims to dissem<strong>in</strong>ate knowledge<br />
and establish ties with dementia care<br />
organizations worldwide, improv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> quality of<br />
life <strong>for</strong> people with dementia.<br />

Expression, Communication and <strong>Dementia</strong> is<br />
be<strong>in</strong>g held at <strong>the</strong> Waterfront Hotel <strong>in</strong> downtown<br />
Burl<strong>in</strong>gton, Ontario, Canada, October 3 & 4,<br />
2011, with pre-conference workshops on<br />
October 2, 2011. The overall <strong>the</strong>me of <strong>the</strong><br />
conference is Health, Ag<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>the</strong> Creative<br />
<strong>Arts</strong>. The conference welcomes <strong>the</strong> participation<br />
of academics, researchers, practitioners and <strong>the</strong><br />
public at large. It provides an excellent<br />
opportunity <strong>for</strong> network<strong>in</strong>g, exchang<strong>in</strong>g ideas and<br />
ga<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>sights <strong>in</strong>to new trends and<br />
