Dieter Quester, after excit<strong>in</strong>g battles with<br />
the Jaguar coupés who are favourites on<br />
paper, is crowned saloon car champion<br />
<strong>in</strong> his <strong>BMW</strong> ALPINA 3.5 CSL. At the<br />
conclusion of this successful season,<br />
ALPINA retires from rac<strong>in</strong>g for ten years so<br />
the <strong>BMW</strong> ALPINA B7 Turbo Coupé<br />
establishes itself among the most powerful<br />
sports coupés. All eng<strong>in</strong>es of this new<br />
ALPINA generation feature a fully electronic<br />
computer-ignition represent<strong>in</strong>g a novelty <strong>in</strong><br />

The oil crisis shakes the <strong>au</strong>tomotive<br />
<strong>in</strong>dustry. ALPINA survives this difficult time<br />

a six-cyl<strong>in</strong>der eng<strong>in</strong>e – and that at a time<br />
when the <strong>BMW</strong> base model comes <strong>in</strong> form<br />
of a four-cyl<strong>in</strong>der eng<strong>in</strong>e only. This eng<strong>in</strong>e 1981<br />
size <strong>in</strong> a comparably compact car means a<br />
wholly new dimension of driv<strong>in</strong>g comfort.<br />
The <strong>BMW</strong> ALPINA B7 Turbo based on the<br />
<strong>BMW</strong> 5-series is the world’s fastest saloon.<br />

Burkard Bovensiepen establishes a new and, as<br />
we know today, highly successful bus<strong>in</strong>ess unit<br />
with ALPINA w<strong>in</strong>e imports. In an impressively<br />
short amount of time, virtually the entire<br />

An ALPINA branch is <strong>in</strong><strong>au</strong>gurated <strong>in</strong> Japan,<br />
mark<strong>in</strong>g yet another beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of a successful<br />
partnership – the 2000 th <strong>BMW</strong> ALPINA was<br />
delivered to Japan <strong>in</strong> the year 2001<br />
The German <strong>au</strong>tomobile magaz<strong>in</strong>e <strong>au</strong>to<br />
motor und sport organises the ‘Shell-Kilometre<br />
