Zacchaeus Climbs a Tree to see Jesus.
Before Kids Arrive
25 minutes prior to service: Check/Gather Supplies:
Sensory Tub with Rice and accompanying toys
Paper stuck on tables with crayons
Lesson 12 “Hand in Hand” Worksheets
Green paper
Brown paper
Scissors
Glue
15 minutes prior to service: Pray with your team. Designate roles for everyone in the room. Each activity
area MUST have an adult supervising.
Welcoming
25-35 minutes: Greet each child as he or she arrives. Allow all children to play with all activity centers.
Activity Center #1: Sensory Tub: Rice with corresponding toys.
Activity Center #2: Coloring
Activity Center #3: Free Play
Transition
5 minutes: Sing “clean up” song as the children/volunteers pick up the surrounding toys. Some children
will not help or join the next activity. That is ok. Designate one person to overlook the children who
prefer to play instead of listen.
Community Time
Song Time
15 minutes: Lead the children in 4-6 songs from the Kids Stuff and Toddler Song Time CD’s.
Note: Volunteer participation encourages the kids to participate, songs are easy to learn and motions
are not complicated, so join in!
Story Time/Snack

Graham Crackers and Water. Feel free to say a short prayer with the children before they eat.
Big Idea: Jesus loves everyone.
Bible Verse: “Let the little children come to me.” (Mark 10:14b)
While/after children are eating, read/act out the following story:
Today we are going to talk about the story in the Bible about a man named Zacchaeus. Copy the
actions that I do as I tell the story. Everybody stand up.
The Bible says that Jesus was walking through town. Walk around the table with the children following
you in a line. Everyone wanted to see Jesus. Cup your hand above your eyes and look around.
Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus, too, but he was too short. Squat down. So he sat down to think. Sit
down. “Look over there” he thought. “I’ll climb up in that tree to see Jesus”. Pretend to climb up an
invisible tree. When Jesus got near the tree, he said to Zacchaeus, “Zacchaeus, you come down from
that tree.” Using your index finger look up and point to the sky shaking your finger. “I would like to go
to your house.”
Some of the people were mad. They didn’t like Zacchaeus because he was a tax collector and took
away too much of their money. Zacchaeus jumped down from the tree. Jump in the air. Zacchaeus was
so happy that Jesus wanted to come to his house! Smile. Zacchaeus said he would give back all of the
money and more! Pretend to give money back to each other. Jesus loved Zacchaeus, even though
other people didn’t like him very much. Jesus loves everyone. Smile.
PRAY
Activity Centers
20 minutes: Encourage children to participate in weekly activity/craft, its ok if they do not want to
though.
Activity Center #1: Craft: Cut the green and brown pieces of paper into little pieces of paper.
Using the Lesson 12 “Hand in Hand” worksheets assist the children in sticking the green and
brown little pieces of paper onto the tree.
Activity Center #2: Sensory Tub with Rice and accompanying toys
Activity Center #3: Free Play

At parent pick-up: Make sure you check security tags! Also be sure to give all belongings back to each
parent as well any craft project the child created.
