Gutierrez Dear Friends: I am honored to have been unanimously elected as Chair by my colleagues on the Board of Directors of the Alameda Corridor-East (ACE) Construction Authority at our first meeting of 2015. I am proud to serve alongside our new Vice Chair, San Gabriel Councilwoman Juli Costanzo, and I appreciate the leadership of our immediate past Chair, El Monte Councilwoman Norma Macias. The seven-member board oversees a nearly $1.7 billion program of mobility and safety improvements at congested and hazardous rail-roadway crossings along the nationally significant ACE Trade Corridor in eastern Los Angeles County. The ACE rail-roadway grade separations are a national and regional priority and yield important benefits to our communities by eliminating crossing collisions, silencing train horn noise and significantly reducing vehicle delays and emissions at crossings. ACE remains busy, with three projects in construction and one project at Baldwin Avenue in El Monte expected to open to traffic shortly. In April, we will break ground on a project at Fairway Drive in Industry and Rowland Heights. Preconstruction activities continue for projects at Fullerton Road in Industry and unincorporated Los Angeles County and at Durfee Avenue in Pico Rivera. A design contract will be awarded soon for the installation of pedestrian crossing gates in Pomona, where 81 trains per day are projected to increase by 2025 to 141 trains per day, or one every 10 minutes. ACE projects proposed in the City of Montebello and at Turnbull Canyon Road in the City of Industry are awaiting concurrence by the host municipalities before advancing into design. The ACE Board and staff are committed to moving our projects into construction and to seeking funding for our projects with budget shortfalls. I hope you enjoy this update from ACE. Thank you for your interest in and support for the ACE projects. Sincerely, Norma Macias City of El Monte Barbara Messina SGVCOG Elliott Rothman City of Pomona Tim Spohn City of Industry Paul Eaton Ex Officio SANBAG The Hon.
