is over, your parent/guardian is required to call the Attendance Office PRIOR to your departure.
You must request a hall pass from your teacher and check out in the Attendance Office before
leaving school, or, in case of illness, with the nurse’s office. The Attendance Office will issue you a
Leave Early Absence Pass. (See “Attendance” section in The Pilot for details.)
Get Involved! ETHS Parent Involvement Opportunities
The following list highlights several opportunities for parent involvement at ETHS. In addition to these formal parent groups and committees, there are also a number of volunteer opportunities within the
various ETHS departments (ex: the Jazz Festival planning committee through the Fine Arts Department), or through sports teams and student activities or clubs (ex: team parent for some sports teams
and competitive clubs).
Boosters Club
Supporting extracurricular activities for all students!
The purpose of the ETHS Boosters is to encourage and promote all extracurricular
activities at ETHS. We are one of the few Booster clubs in the Central Suburban
League that supports music, fine arts, and after-school clubs in addition to sports.
The Boosters raise money through membership fees and donations, Concession and
Spirit Wear sales, and our Annual Benefit. We sponsor Senior Parent Day, College
Scholarships, the Crystal E Award, and fund specific music, fine art, club and sports
team requests through allocations. Our Directed Donations program allows parents to
contribute directly to any sport or school activity.
All ETHS families, students, teachers and staff members are invited to join the
Boosters. Members receive free admission to all home football and basketball games,
and to select student concerts, with the Booster Membership card.
Please visit our website at www.ethsboosters.org to join, donate, volunteer or
learn more about the Boosters!
ETHS Black Advocacy Network (E-BAN)
E-BAN is a network of ETHS parents, staff, and community members who work to
promote the academic achievement and well-being of black students at ETHS.
E-BAN serves as forum for sharing resources, expertise and experiences with families
related to the education and personal development of black students. The network also
seeks to build connections between ETHS and the black community in order to better
serve families as they navigate students through four years of high school.
Parent Ambassadors
The Parent Ambassador program was established to help transform parent involvement
and position parents (and other adult family members, such as grandparents, etc.)
as “ambassadors” for Evanston Township High School. Parent Ambassadors help
support prospective, incoming, new and current parents and families at scheduled
events throughout the school year and as available during the summer months. Parent
Ambassadors work in partnership with the school’s Student Ambassador program.
Parents, guardians, and adult family members who are significant in the lives of
current ETHS students in grades 9-12 are invited to become Parent Ambassadors.
For more information on the Parent Ambassador program or to connect with a current
Parent Ambassador, send an email to parentambassadors@eths.k12.il.us or visit the
Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA)
The PTSA has historically offered services, programs and activities that facilitate
communications between the school and home. The main goal of the ETHS PTSA
has been to serve as a liaison between parents/guardians and the administration while
providing support to ETHS families in various capacities.
ETHS students, parents/guardians, staff and community members can join the PTSA.
It can be a great way to make a difference at ETHS, though volunteers are still needed
for the 2013-14 school year to maintain programs at prior levels.
events. Users can sign up for daily or weekly eAlerts.
• ETHS event calendar: Each family receives a printed activities calendar at the beginning of
the school year. For the most up-to-date event information, visit the online events calendar
often (www.eths.k12.il.us/events).
• ETHS on Twitter (www.twitter.com/ETHSWildkits)
• ETHS on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ETHSD202)
• ETHS on YouTube (www.youtube.com/ETHSWildkit)
• ETHS On Demand (http://eths.pegcentral.com/) ETHS Video-on-demand allows viewers
with Internet access to watch ETHS event videos, including select athletic events, school
performances, graduation, and board meetings.
• ETHS Cable Television (Evanston Comcast Cable Channel 18) Viewers with Evanston
Comcast Cable Ch. 18 can watch ETHS select event videos and school performances on TV.
Board meetings are also streamed live on this channel.
ETHS Rapid Notification System: ETHS uses a rapid notification system to deliver voice calls,
email messages or SMS messages to students, parents and staff. This system allows ETHS to
share information effectively and efficiently in time-sensitive situations. This system is used
to send out routine school messages, such as attendance reports, event and meeting reminders,
activity cancellations, and emergency notifications. Be sure to keep your phone numbers and
email address up-to-date by logging on to Home Access Center (HAC).
Home Access Applications: (www.eths.k12.il.us/parents/homeaccess) ETHS provides two online
portals to monitor student learning and attendance:
• Home Access Center (HAC). Students/parents/guardians can view assignments, attendance,
interim progress reports, grades, and schedules online in Home Access Center, as well
as sign up to receive interim progress reports and report card grades by email. Parents/
guardians should register and update their phone and email contact information so teachers
and the school can communicate with them about their student.
• ETHS Home Applications. Students/parents can use this application to check AM Support
enrollment and attendance, detention balances, and register electronic devices.
Use your Home Access Center (HAC) user login and password for both Home Access Center
and ETHS Home Applications. To obtain a log-in and password, please call 847-424-7121, email
homeaccesscenter@eths.k12.il.us, or ask the Bacon Computer Staff for assistance.
SCHOOL CLOSINGS
ETHS rarely closes because of weather or other emergencies. However, if you think there is a
possibility of school closing, check the ETHS web site (www.eths.k12.il.us) or call the general
school number (847-424-7000) for a recorded message. School closings including unplanned
early dismissals and late start days are reported on radio station WBBM-AM (780); on morning
television programs on WGN-TV (Ch. 9), WLS-TV (Ch. 7), WMAQ-TV (Ch. 5), and WBBM-
TV (Ch. 2); and online at www.emergencyclosings.com. In addition, ETHS will use the rapid
notification system to deliver voice calls and email messages to students, parents and staff, and
will post notices of a closing on the district’s online channels. If ETHS dismisses early due to
inclement weather or other emergencies, after-school functions may be cancelled.
