This course is ideal if you would like to begin<br />

initial training for a career in the <strong>Beauty</strong> Therapy<br />

industry. During this course, you will develop<br />

a comprehensive range of practical skills and<br />

theoretical knowledge covering Health &<br />

Safety, Facial Skincare, Waxing, Manicures,<br />

Pedicures, Eye Treatments, Ear Piercing,<br />

Makeup Application and Reception Duties.<br />

Students will also take advantage of a range<br />

of supplementary courses including Fake Bake.<br />

You will also benefit from professional courses<br />

related to salon products including Hara<br />

Skincare, Environ Skincare, OPI Nailcare and<br />

Jane Iredale mineral make-up. The NVQ<br />

Diploma is offered at both <strong>Yeovil</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

and the North Dorset Technical <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

You need GCSE English and Science at grade C or above and<br />

GCSE Maths at grade D or above, as well as a good level of<br />

literacy. Enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to the course<br />

are essential for success.<br />

Course Expenses<br />

Uniform and kit (including textbooks) - approximately £500.<br />

Consumables - £40. There will also be charges associated<br />

with additional training courses. European residential (optional)<br />

- approximately £400.<br />

Work Experience<br />

You will complete one compulsory week of work experience.<br />

Trips/Residentials<br />

There is an optional, annual residential to a European country<br />

where you can experience the spa and beauty therapy<br />

treatments available in another culture.<br />

Career Prospects/Progression<br />

On the successful completion of this course, you can progress<br />

on to the NVQ Diploma (Level 3) <strong>Beauty</strong> Therapy (General).<br />

This qualification is based on National Occupation<br />

Standards for <strong>Beauty</strong> Therapy and is designed<br />

for students who wish to advance within the<br />

profession or have ambitions to manage or own a<br />

salon. During this course, you will build upon the<br />

skills and competence gained at Level 2, so that<br />

you develop into a highly proficient, competent<br />

and professional <strong>Beauty</strong> Therapist. In addition,<br />

you will learn a range of advanced treatment<br />

techniques, including electrical face and body<br />

treatments, electrolysis, eyelash extensions and<br />

body massage. You can also complete additional<br />

training in specialist treatments and products, such<br />

as the ‘Standing Tall Workshop’, bust profiling,<br />

intimate waxing and Fake Bake Spray Tanning.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

You must have successfully completed the NVQ Diploma (Level 2)<br />

<strong>Beauty</strong> Therapy or equivalent qualification to join this course.<br />

Course Expenses<br />

Kit (including textbook and uniform) – approximately £450.<br />

Uniform - £80. Consumables – approximately £40. Residential<br />

(optional) – approximately £400. There may be additional costs<br />

associated with the specialist training courses.<br />

Work Experience<br />

You must complete two separate weeks of work experience.<br />

Trips/Residentials<br />

There is an opportunity to attend a residential trip at a European<br />

resort, where you will experience spa and therapy treatments<br />

from a different cultural perspective.<br />

Career Prospects/Progression<br />

If you successfully complete this qualification, you will have<br />

the necessary understanding and skills to work as a senior<br />

beauty therapist or salon manager. You can also consider<br />

self-employment as a beauty therapist. If you wish to develop<br />

your skills further, you can take additional, specialist vocational<br />

qualifications at Level 3 or Level 4.<br />
