SELECTING THE RIGHT PUMP
Faced with the choice available and the huge amount of technical data, choosing the right
pump can be bewildering for any consumer.
Use the information below to help them choose the right pump for their needs.
Step 1: Roughly calculate your pond size
Metric (metres)
Length x width x avg depth x 1000 = Pond size (litres)
Imperial (feet)
Length x width x avg depth x 6.23 = Pond size (gallons)
All dimensions should be AVERAGE dimensions of your pond.
Step 2: Decide what type of pump you need
If you want your pump to run a fountain you will need the PowerJet
Free-Flo pump.
If you need a pump purely to run a waterfall you will need the
PowerJet Max-Flo solid handling pump which will pass solid particles
directly to your filter.
Step 3: Estimate waterfall height
Waterfall height is the distance between the surface
of the pond and the outlet point of the water.
(if you do not have a waterfall, your waterfall height is 0)

Step 4: Find your ideal pump from the
graph
Find your ideal pump by finding your pond size up the side of the
graph, then your waterfall height along the bottom of the graph.

Remember:
• The figures are approximate and based on
maximum output in ideal conditions.
• Extra wide waterfalls or additional
spouting ornaments will require a more
powerful pump.
• A waterfall requires 75-100 GPH flow rate
for every inch of width.
• These calculations assume that you wish
to circulate pond water the recommended
amount of once every 2 hours and that
some sort of filtration will be used.
• It is always better to go for a slightly larger
pump than stated in case the consumer
wishes to add more accessories, or modify
their pond in the future.
