Reconnect program
helps Dell break
recycling record
Thanks in part to its Reconnect partnership
with Goodwill, computer giant
Dell, Inc., recently announced that it
diverted more than 150 million pounds
of end-of-life electronics from landfills
globally during its fiscal year ending
January 28, 2011, a 16-percent
increase over fiscal year 2010. That
record achievement put Dell about
two-thirds of the way toward its goal
of recycling 1 billion pounds of
e-waste by 2014.
The company cited its Reconnect
program with Goodwill as an important
driver in recycling unwanted computer
equipment in the U.S. Dell
recovered 95 million pounds of com-
puter equipment in the Americas during
fiscal year 2011.
“The Reconnect program is great
for the environment and for Goodwill,”
said Bora Caliskan, Director of
Operations. “We process donated computers
and transfer selected equipment
to a Dell product-recovery partner to
be refurbished and resold with proceeds
coming back to Goodwill.
Equipment that cannot be reused is
disposed of responsibly so everyone
wins.”
Goodwill SWPA recycled 2.5
million pounds of computer equipment
in 2010.
