REGISTRATION INFORMATION 

NOTE: WALK IN, MAIL IN, AND ONLINE REGISTRATION 

BEGINS ON JANUARY 16TH, 2013. 

PROCEDURE: Registration forms are available at the Recreation office, 561 Main Street South or on our 

website at: www.southbury-ct.org. Please enclose one form for each person. You are enrolled unless otherwise 

notified. NO acknowledgement of registration will be made. Payment MUST be received at time of 

registration: cash or check at Parks and Recreation and please make checks out to “Southbury Parks and 

Recreation” or online at www.southbury-ct.org with a Mastercard or Visa. Office Hours: Monday - Friday 

8:30am- 4:30pm 

NON-RESIDENT POLICY: Non-residents may register AFTER January 23rd, 2013. Fees are an additional 50% 

of program fee. 

PROGRAM REFUNDS: Full refunds are granted only if a program is canceled. All other refund requests 

must be in writing and prior to the start of a program. All refunds will be subject to a $15.00 processing 

fee. There will be a 10% processing fee for any camp refund that may be granted. NO refunds are possible 

for trips, pavilion rental deposits, or once a class or program has started. A prorated refund of 50% or less 

will be granted for medical reasons only. Participants must provide medical documentation. 

CANCELED CLASSES AND INCLEMENT WEATHER: If schools are canceled or closed, activities held in 

schools will be canceled. All other cancelations, call the info line at 203-262-0633, check our website at 

www.southbury-ct.org or channel 3 WFSB, NBC 30 or WTNH 8. 

INSURANCE: The Town of Southbury does not provide accident insurance for any of its programs. All people 

participate at their own risk and should make certain that they have their own insurance. 

PHOTO POLICY: Southbury Parks and Recreation reserves the right to photograph program participants for 

publicity purposes. 

SPECIAL ASSISTANCE: All children and adults are invited to participate in our programs. If you or your child

BALLANTINE PAVILION 

Ballantine Park has a large outdoor lighted pavilion 

with kitchen facilities. The pavilion seats about 120 

people, a rentable outdoor grill, and restrooms. The 

pavilion is available for rent. Residents reservations are 

taken the first Monday of March and non-residents, 

the first Monday of April. For further information, please 

call the Parks and Recreation office at 203-262-0633.

Southbury Parks and 

Recreation 

Southbury, Connecticut 

Located in a panorama of rolling hills, winding streams 

and lake shores, Southbury offers much in the way of 

natural recreation. All parks are available for Southbury 

residents from dawn to dusk, and designed to 

suit the needs of all residential age groups. 

TOWN PARKS: 

Ballantine Park: Located on Old Field Road, covers 

close to 25 acres and has 2 softball fields, bocce, 

shuffle board courts, 3 tennis courts, basketball court, 

a sand volleyball court and a children’s playground. 

The park also has an outdoor swimming pool with a 

bath house. On site there is also a lighted picnic pavilion 

with kitchen facilities, tables, outdoor grills and 

restrooms. For the use of the playing fields, rental of 

the pavilion, reservations for the tennis courts or for 

information regarding use of the pool, please contact 

the Parks and Recreation Department. 

Community Park: Located on Community House 

Road, just off Rt. 67, this 14.5 acre facility has softball, 

baseball, soccer, and football fields. This park also 

includes 3 tennis courts, new basketball courts, a seasonal 

ice rink and an activity field available for recreational, 

special events, or overflow parking. For use of 

the playing fields or tennis courts call the Parks and 

Recreation Department. 

Ewald Park: This 8.5 acre park is located on Poverty 

Road along the Pomperaug River. It features 2 

baseball fields and a walking and fitness track. For use 

of the playing field, please contact the Parks and 

Recreation Department. 

Settlers Park: Located on Crook Horn Road this 66 

acre park has multiple athletic fields, children’s play 

area, gazebo, walking trails, and a Community Garden. 

Seman Park: Located on East Flat Hill Road this 

park is a 24.8 acre parcel used currently primarily for 

soccer. The interior section is devoted to passive nature 

educational and recreational use. 

Hidden Pond Park: This park is a 58 acre parcel 

of wooded land with a 4 acre pond located on Bucks 

Hill road. A hiking and/or cross country ski trail loop 

travels along the pond and winds through a wooded 

area of the park. Fishing and electric motorized boats 

are permitted. 


Cedar Land Park: This is a neighborhood park 

consisting of 1.3 acres located on River Trail Road near 

the Pomperaug River. The park contains picnic tables, 

playground equipment, and a basketball court. 

Lakeside Park: This park is located on Scout Road. 

This 1.1 acre neighborhood park contains picnic 

tables and a children’s play area. 

Boat Launch: The town boat launch on Lake Lillinonah 

is an 11.8 acre parcel of property that features a 

paved boat ramp for boat launching. The remaining 

acreage is a wooded open space area. Parking is for 

residents only. 

Town Beach on Lake Zoar: The town beach is 

located on River Road and is open seasonally. This 

location offers swimming, boat parking, picnic facilities 

with grills, children’s play area, a volleyball 

court and horseshoe pits. 

Gordan Schielke Park: This park is a 30 acre 

parcel on West Flat Hill Road located in the heart of the 

Purchase area. The size and geography of the area provides 

an opportunity for future development of an 

active recreational park. 

CONSERVATION PARKS: 

The following parks are protected and preserved land 

parcels designated for passive recreation and are 

under the jurisdiction of the Conservation Commission 

in Southbury: Little York Park, McMillen Park, 

Platt Park, Laurel Woods, Janie Pierce Park, Bates Rock 

Ridge Park, George Bennett Park, Hinman Park and 

Grandview Park: New England Hills Park. 

STATE PARKS: 

The State Department of Environmental Protection 

manages the following areas which are partially or 

entirely within the borders of the town of Southbury: 

Kettletown State Park, George C. Waldo State Park, 

Southford Falls State Park and the Lake Zoar State Boat 

Launch. 

SOUTHBURY LAND TRUST: 

The Southbury Land Trust has over 40 protected parcels 

of open space land within the town of Southbury. The 

most popular preserves for hiking are Ivers, Koons, Paradise 

Hill, Platt Farm, Phillips 

Farm and Lovdal Farm. 

PRIVATE PARKS: 

The National Audubon Society Bent of the River 

Audubon Center is located on East Flat Hill Road in 

South Britain. It consists of 457 acres of fields and 

forests along the Pomperaug River. It is a natural 

learning center for environmental studies and can be 

visited year round by appointment.
