—————Editor’s Note——————
An Ode to New
Beginnings
Someone wise once said that the journey
of a thousand miles begins with a single
step. And so it is that we are making this
first step which will hopefully
lead to many greater steps.
It is truly a beautiful feeling to
see this first issue going to publication.
It is my hope that this
will be the first of many.
It was only fitting that the first
article of the first issue clear up
the question of Who is
Sarayna? and give some background
information on
Sarayna Designs. In this first issue you will
find information on choosing a make up
artist for your big day. We also give the
411 on selecting the right foundation, what
brushes to select for your kit as well as
pointers for maintaining healthy skin.
In light of the editorial photo shoot at the
centre of the issue we decided to make
brides the focus. So whatever the beauty
query, we have our brides covered!
In pretty much the same way
as the vision for Sarayna Designs
is continuing to evolve,
so too will the heart and soul
of this publication. As we add
new endeavours to our portfolio,
the magazine will reflect
these changes.
In our next issue we will be
introducing a column for
those who want to write in
with beauty related questions.
In addition, feedback received from you
our valued readers and subscribers will
be published in the magazine. There is so
much more to come so do join us on the
journey.
Happy reading!
Who is SARAYNA?
“It provided me with the
outlet I needed to share my
talents with the world.”
“The dream has taken on
a life all its own and like
a slave to my passions I
can do nothing but relent
in submission.”
Who?
Who is Sarayna?
Sarayna is the name of my unborn.
Or to be more accurate,
the name I intend to give to my
first daughter (albeit not yet
conceived). Beyond that, it is
also the name I give to my creative
force, somewhat of an alterego,
if you will.
What?
What is Sarayna
Designs?
Sarayna Designs Inc. is a fullrange
creative company. We
offer makeup services and
workshops and have also
launched a line of decorative
pillows. There is also lots more
in store for the coming months.
When?
When was it started?
The business was originally
launched as Sarayna
Designs Makeup Artistry in
May of 2009 but has been reregistered
as a full range creative
company as of 2011.
Why?
Why did you start Sarayna
Designs?
I have always loved art and creating
and was always challeng-
ing myself with various mediums.
Designer Patricia Field said,
“Don’t ask what you can do.
Ask what are you good at.” For
me that pretty much sums up
the why and so when I had to
make a choice, I chose art and
formed Sarayna Designs. It
provided me with the outlet I
needed to share my talents
with the world.
What Next?
There are lots of plans in place
regarding the way forward.
Much of it is still being ironed
out as I go along. The dream
has taken on a life all its own
and like a slave to my passions
I can do nothing but relent in
submission. I have my sights
set on a line of cosmetics and
clothing and more that I can’t
mention just yet. The ultimate
goal though is to make
Sarayna Designs a brand in
and of itself that provides products
and services of international
quality and standards.
Extras
Tell us a little more about
you.
FOUNDATION 101
TOOLS
A good foundation
brush or
sponge wedges
are crucial if you
want to
apply your
foundation properly. Also, don’t
overlook your hands—the best tools
at your disposal. Your natural body
heat warms the foundation as you apply
it
Lesson 1: Decide on a product
What’s your skin type? How much
coverage will you need? Are you
comfortable with a full face of make
up or just want to try something
really light and simple?
For many women the thought of finding the right
foundation is as daunting as going on a blind date
to find a mate. You don’t know what to expect,
you’ve quiet likely never tried it before and if you
have, the last time you did it was a disaster! But
not to worry. Unfortunately, we can’t give you any
advice on the blind date but as for the makeup,
we’ve got you covered.
Lesson 2: Choosing your shade
Now that you’ve decided on what to buy the next challenge
will be to determine the perfect match for your
skin tone.
CREAMS
These tend to be popular among professional
artist but there is no reason
everyone can’t learn to master using
them. They generally come in compacts
or stick form. The coverage is
fuller than that offered
by liquids but
can still becontrolled
based on application.
LIQUIDS
Liquids are a good bet for those looking for minimal
coverage. These come in various forms.
Tinted moisturizers are very lightweight. As the name
suggests, they are really moisturizers with a hint of
colour.
Light to medium coverage foundations that allow you
to control coverage based on the amount you use.
POWDERS
These can be pressed or loose.
Pressed powders, in a compact, are
easier to carry around for during the
day touch ups. Powders can be used
over (liquid/cream)
foundation to set it
or they can be used
alone for minimal
coverage.
