Our MISSION
Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald House provides a supportive
“home away from home” for families and their children, who are
receiving medical treatment at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital
Medical Center or other area hospitals, regardless of their ability
to pay. Ronald McDonald House Charities also awards grants to
local not-for-profit organizations serving children through a portion
of donations from McDonald’s customers and Global Ronald
McDonald House Charities’ matching funds.
Our VISION
To offer all the comforts of home to every family with a hospitalized child.
There is no comparing ALL THAT OUR HOUSE OFFERS:
different than other children.
Ronald McDonald House
No family is ever turned away due to an inability to contribute. The suggested
donation is $25/night. However, the average amount families were able to
contribute in 2010 was $11.24/night (includes third-party billings to insurance
companies and Medicaid).
Daily home-cooked meals and snacks at no cost
• Many other children to play with
• Outdoor and indoor play areas
• Kids don’t feel different because other children are receiving medical
treatment, too
Paula and Rebeka’s Family
SMILES BECAUSE OF YOU
Paula and Rebeka Dragic were born a month premature by
emergency Caesarean section. Both girls had numerous,
complex urinary, colorectal and reproductive malformations.
The twins were intubated, hooked up to heart machines and
rushed to a nearby children’s hospital. They both almost died
en route, but they immediately underwent surgeries that
successfully stabilized their fragile bodies. They spent the first
three months of their lives in the hospital.
After years of exams with different doctors in their home
country of Croatia, their parents found hope in the expert
colorectal team at Cincinnati Children’s. And although hope
was far away from home, Ronald McDonald House was there
to help.
“If there was no Ronald McDonald House, I do not know if we
could have afforded to come to the United States to help our
girls get the treatment they need,” said their father, Goran.
“And the House has exceeded all of our
expectations; Paula and Rebeka are very
comfortable here, as if it were their own home.”
Paula and Rebeka are now three years old and are on the
road to recovery after having surgery at Cincinnati Children’s.
Another surgery is soon to follow, which doctors believe
will repair most of their colorectal and reproductive issues.
While both girls still face daily urological
challenges, doctors are hopeful they will
be able to have children some day.
Their journey has been long and is not
over yet, but Paula and Rebeka run
around our House with smiles on their
faces. Goran – who is especially thankful
for the kindness of volunteers and staff
and for the many activities that keep his
daughters laughing – said:
“We will never forget how much
Ronald McDonald House helped us,
how they made it easier for us.”
Falling behind in school
No support or understanding
There are limited, if any, outlets
for relaxation. Television usually
serves as the only form of
entertainment included in the
cost of a room.
Daily private lessons from teachers available on site
Staff, volunteers and other guest families who provide emotional support and
comfort
• Arts and crafts, game room, exercise room
• Therapy dogs and free haircuts and massages
• Free tickets to Reds games, Bengals games, the Cincinnati Zoo or the
Cincinnati Museum Center
• Frequent performances by musicians, magicians and other entertainers
Movies on demand, for a fee,
and no library
Extensive DVD library and family movie night; thousands of books and free
magazines
THANK YOU for making our unique “home away from home” available for families
when they need it most.

“The Ronald McDonald House experience undoubtedly improves our
patients’ visits. We get better rested, more relaxed, more cooperative
families to interact with. We see happier children interacting with other
children in a unique environment. I wish all the children and families we
meet could have this same experience.”
– Dr. Marc Levitt, Associate Director
Colorectal Center for Children, Cincinnati Children’s
This is your House, CINCINNATI
Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald House does not receive any city, state or federal grant funds and is not funded by the
United Way. McDonald’s and their customers generously provide 12 percent of our operating budget. The remaining
88 percent of our annual budget comes from private sources, and we are indebted to the corporations, foundations
and generous individuals who have helped us provide thousands of families with a “home away from home.”
2011 Red Tie Gala:
OLD HOLLYWOOD
Our House raises about 10 percent of our
annual budget each year at our Gala.
Over 800 people took a stroll through old Hollywood
at our 2011 Red Tie Gala, presented by PNC Bank. On
October 1, 2011, our wonderful donors joined us at the
Hyatt Regency for an evening of dinner and cocktails,
dancing, bidding on unique auction items, and
sponsoring House guest families through our Adopt a
Family program.
We also honored Chip Klosterman at the event, who
is the 2011 Ronald McDonald House Heart Award
recipient. Chip is President of Klosterman Baking
Company, serves on the Advisory Board of our Ronald
McDonald House and was a former board chairman.
Chip has also been a generous supporter of our guest
families for many years.
A special thanks to MJ Guttman and Jessica Levine
who co-chaired the event and whose talented
committee made sure our guests were treated to a
beautiful evening.
The Heart of our HOUSE
In 2010, volunteers donated
68,184 hours of service, valued
at approximately $1.26 million.
Guest services volunteers 375+
Meals/snack volunteers 7,300+
Activities volunteers 2,800+
Home-cooked meals prepared 723
Snack groups 478
Family activities 566
Because of our extensive volunteer
network, we are able to make our
valuable financial resources stretch even
further. Our volunteers work the front
desk, give tours to new guest families,
help with administrative projects, and
clean the guest rooms and common
areas. But most importantly, our
volunteers provide so much for our guest
families, including meals, activities, arts
and crafts, entertainment and emotional
support through the most difficult days.
People of all ages give of their time,
including families with young children,
high school students in our VolunTEEN
program, and adults and senior citizens.
Our over 10,000 volunteers truly are the
heart of our House.
You Can Give the Gift of
HOME, HEALTH AND HOPE
this Holiday Season
Become a Meal Volunteer and provide a much-needed break
to families who are supporting their sick children and often
don’t have the time, funds or energy to prepare a healthy,
home-cooked meal.
Adopt a Family by helping cover the difference between what
they can afford and what it costs us to provide a “home away
from home.” In 2010, the average amount families were able
to contribute was $11.24/day (which includes third-party billings
to insurance companies and Medicaid). However, it costs
$90/day, per family, to provide the support, amenities and other
services we offer. Adopt one long-term guest family for a year
for $3,000, two families for $5,000 or three families for $10,000.
Adopt a Room and assist our guest families with the cost of
their lodging. Most families cannot afford a hotel for weeks
or months, especially under the financial stress of mounting
medical bills. Help ensure that families are not sleeping in the
hospital lobby, in their child’s hospital room or even in their cars.
Adopt a small room for a year for $3,000, a medium room for
$5,000 or a transplant suite for $10,000. You can adopt a room
in honor of clients, family or friends this holiday season.
Help us fulfill our Wish List and keep our House stocked with
the basic necessities a home requires. Our biggest needs are
disinfectant wipes, disinfectant sprays like Lysol, 13- or 40-gallon
trash can liners, salty snacks or any size ziplock bags. Or, visit
our website at www.rmhcincinnati.org to view our complete
wish list. Know that your gift helps alleviate yet another worry
for our families, allowing them to focus entirely on their child’s
welfare.
Helping Families
ONE TAB AT A TIME
In 2010, our House raised
over $16,500 by recycling
pull tabs.
You can help us raise more! Our
House recently partnered with Cohen
Recycling Centers to grow our pull tab
program. Tab donors can now take
their tabs – or even whole cans – to
any Cohen Recycling location and
proceeds will be mailed directly to our
House. With seven convenient, drivethrough
locations, this partnership will
make it even easier for our tab donors
to help support our families. Tabs can
also be dropped off at our House any
day for recycling with our other partner,
Moskowitz Brothers, Inc.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Recently, I received an email from
a guest family with an audio file
attached. Although I could not
understand the words I heard, they
brought tears to my eyes. The sounds
were the first to ever come out of their
two-year-old daughter’s mouth.
Victoria was born with a cancerous tumor. Chemotherapy rid her
of the cancer, but her weakened immune system could not fight off
the infection that led to her current medical problems.
When Victoria was living at our House, she could not make a sound.
She also had to eat through a tube in her stomach and breathe
through a tracheotomy tube. But after her surgery, her body slowly
began to heal. Back home again, her family still wanted to keep in
touch with their friends in Cincinnati.
Ronald McDonald House truly provides families with the support
they need during this critical time – support so meaningful, it is not
soon forgotten. Our families receive encouragement and strength
from the staff, volunteers and other guest families as they endure
one of life’s scariest challenges far away from home. You, too, are
an important part of their support system, because we could not
provide our “home away from home” without your generosity.
Although my words of gratitude are insufficient, please know I speak
them for a two-year-old girl who cannot yet share them herself. You
are helping to give her and over 1,200 other children a chance at a
“normal,” fulfilling life. Victoria, her family and our House thank you.
