TIMING CHIP
You will receive your timing chip at bike check-in. Please securely
fasten your chip around your left ankle and do not remove it
throughout the competition, unless racing in a team event.
We advise you to wear it underneath your wetsuit during the swim
should you be wearing a wetsuit.
If you fail to wear the timing chip correctly we cannot guarantee you
the correct result.
Timing chips must be handed in at the end of the race before leaving
the finish area. You will be charged for your chip if you fail to
return it.
RACE BAG
At Registration you will receive a drawstring race bag.
transition area. The organisers assume no liability for lost objects.
Please ensure the race number on your race bag matches your
race number and wristband before depositing it in the bag drop
as you will need to show your race number in order to collect
your bag after your race.
BIKE
CHECK-IN
IS ONLY
POSSIBLE
ON THE DAY
BEFORE
RACE DAY
BIKE CHECK IN
At check-in, a safety check will be carried out on
your bike and helmet. Don’t forget to have your bike
in good working order. Remember if your bike isn’t
fit to race then you won’t be allowed to start
- safety first!
The Check-In to the Transition is near the Race Venue
at the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club,
Theater Road - on the Breakwater near Marina Mall.
Entry in and exit out of Transition will be controlled
by wristband and race number, therefore please
keep them ready for inspection.
RACKING YOUR BIKE
• Stick your bike number onto your bike saddle
post before check-in.
• For identification purposes during check-in,
have your race number and wristband ready
to gain entry to Transition.
• Attach the helmet stickers to the front of your
helmet and wear your bike helmet fastened on
your head when you come to check-in.

BEFORE THE COMPETITION | 6
• Bikes must be racked personally onto the rackingarea allocated to your wave.
Each racking area will be marked according to your start wave. Racking positions
will not be numbered individually.
• Please take time to familiarise yourself with your surroundings and your position
in relation to the rest of Transition. This will speed up your transition process when
you are in race mode!
TRANSITION
• Transition opens at 5am on Saturday 7th March.
• Please bring any equipment and nutrition you need for swimming, cycling
and running.
• Your race equipment must be set up neatly next to your bike within the area
allocated to your wave start.
• Please be mindful of other competitors when setting up your transition area.
• No equipment is allowed in the aisles. This applies before as well as during
the competition. Personal belongings, other than your race equipment,
are not allowed in Transition and these should be left at the race bag drop
at Registration.
WETSUITS
We make a final wetsuit decision closer to race day when we measure water
temperature but based on past years, wetsuits should be optional.
You will be updated at pre-race briefings.
If you choose to wear a wetsuit, to avoid mix-ups in Transition, please note, we
strongly recommend you put your name in your wetsuit. Your timing chip needs
to be placed under your wetsuit on your leg. This is to ensure that when you
remove your wetsuit the timing chip isn’t removed at the same time.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR RELAY TEAMS | 16
17 | ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR RELAY TEAMS
IMPORTANT
IMPORTANT
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR RELAY TEAMS
There is a hand-over zone in Transition for teams. You need
to hand over your timing chip and attach it to your teammate’s
left ankle before they are allowed to start their leg.
Every team member needs to come to Registration to sign the
indemnity form and receive a wristband.
SWIMMER
Wear the timing chip around your left ankle over your wetsuit if
ankle length. After your swim, run into Transition. At the designated
hand over area, the timing chip must be placed around the left
ankle of the cyclist.
CYCLIST
In your rack pack you will find one swim cap, two race numbers
and several numbered stickers. The swim cap is to be worn by the
swimmer. One race number is to be worn on the back of the cyclist
and the other on the front of the runner. The stickers are for the
bike and helmet. The bike stickers must be placed on the bike (the
long sticker around the saddle post) and the front of the cycle helmet
before these are taken into Transition.
All team members must be fitted with a wristband at Registration.
All relay team members will be allowed access to the Transition.
However, to avoid congestion in Transition during the race, while the
swimmer is swimming, only the cyclist should be in Transition ready
for the changeover. During the cycle, the swimmer should leave
Transition and only the runner waits at the empty Transition position
for the cyclist to return. Therefore there should never be three relay
team members in Transition at the same time during the race.
Wear a cycle helmet fastened on your head and one race number
on your back. Wait for your swimmer at the appropriate hand over
area. Don’t remove your bike from the rack until your swimmer has
tagged you and the timing chip has been placed around your left
ankle. After the cycle you must rack your bike in its original position.
After you have racked the bike, remove the timing chip from your
ankle and place it around the runner’s ankle.
RUNNER
Wear the race number on your front. Wait for your cyclist at
the appropriate racking position. After the bike has been racked,
remove the timing chip from the cyclist’s ankle and place around
your ankle and then proceed on your run. Make sure your race
number is visible on your front as you cross the finish line.
All relay team members will be allowed access to the Transition.
But remember, there should never be three relay team members
in Transition at the same time during the race.

AFTER THE COMPETITION | 18
19 | AFTER THE COMPETITION
AFTER THE COMPETITION
POST RACE
You will receive your medal and refreshments in the recovery area
post race.
TIMING CHIP RETURN
After the race all timing chips have to be returned in the finish area.
If participants fail to do so, a fee will be charged by the organiser
after the event.
BIKE CHECK-OUT
The bike check-out is at the same location as the check-in.
Athletes must present their wrist band at check-out.
Athletes will not be allowed to check their bikes out unless their
bike number matches their wrist band number.
Therefore please do not tear off the bike number from your bike
or remove the wrist band in Transition before check-out!
Bike check-out opens at 12.30pm. Transition closes at 19:00.
All remaining bikes must be removed by then. The organisers
reserve the right to remove any equipment after this time.
Please be mindful of other competitors when checking out your
bike before 2pm. There may still be people racing.
Bike check-out timing has been designed to allow Age Groupers
to watch the Elite races before checking their bike out.
RESULTS
After the competition the provisional results will be posted
at the race finish area. Results will also appear as soon
as possible online on: www.abudhabi.triathlon.org
There are trophies and certificates for the Age Group races
with an awards ceremony at 1pm where top athletes
in the various categories will be acknowledged.
ELITE RACES
Once you have finished, don’t forget our Elite races.
The Elite female race starts at 3pm.
The Elite male race at 5pm.
Why not visit our Race Expo or take a seat
in the grandstand to watch the exciting action?
MEDICAL SERVICES ON THE DAY
A team of medical staff, paramedics and doctors will take every
necessary precaution to ensure the safety of all athletes and visitors
on-site. Emergency and service points will be manned along the
course.
Any medical incidences around the venue site and Expo should
be reported to the nearest information point. Medical staff will
be dispatched to the appropriate location.
Make sure you have adequate medical insurance.
We ask all athletes to follow the instructions of the medical
staff at all times.
LOST AND FOUND
Lost items which have been handed in can be collected
from the Race Information desk at the Race Venue.

DRAFTING REGULATIONS | 20
21 | DRAFTING REGULATIONS
DRAFTING
DRAFTING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED
Drafting from another athlete or motor vehicle is forbidden. Athletes must reject
attempts by others to draft;
An athlete is entitled to any position on the course, provided they get to that position
first, and without contacting others;
When taking a position, an athlete must aloe reasonable space for others to make
normal movements without making contact;
HERE IS MORE DETAIL ON THE DRAFTING PENALTIES:
• It is forbidden to draft in a race declared as draft illegal
• Technical Officials will notify the athletes who draft that they are subject to a time
penalty sanction
• The athlete sanctioned has to stop in the next Penalty Box and follow directions
from the referee
• It is the athlete’s responsibility to stop in the next Penalty Box. Failing to do this will
result in disqualification
An Explanation of drafting is shown here:
DIAGRAM 1
Adequate space must be available before passing;
An athlete, who approaches from any position to take advantage of the draft,
bears responsibility for avoiding the draft;
Distance of Drafting Zone for ALL Competitors
DIAGRAM 2
Drafting
10m
3m
Entry into the bicycle drafting zone: An athlete may enter a bike draft zone
in the following circumstances:
• If the athlete enters the draft zone, and progresses through it within 20 seconds
events in the overtaking manoeuvre
A has overtaken B and B is now drafting the lead
cyclist A. B must drop out of A’s draft zone before
attempting to repass A. A must move to the Left
Hand Side of the road when safe otherwise A
can be called for blocking. B can only overtake A
on A’s Right Hand Side.
B
A
• For safety reasons
• 100metres before and after an aid station or transition area
• An acute turn
• If the Technical Delegate excludes a section of the course because of narrow
lanes, construction, detours, or for other safety reasons
DIAGRAM 3
Blocking
A and B are maintaining adequate separation
between each other, even though they are abreast
to one another. B is not drafting A in the instance.
A however, is now in a BLOCKING position.
If A remains on the Right Hand Side, A will
receive a blocking penalty.
B
A
• Overtaking
• An athlete is passed when another athlete’s front wheel
is ahead of theirs
• Once overtaken, an athlete must move out of the draft zone of the leading athlete
within 5 seconds
• Athletes must keep to their side of the course and not create a blocking
incidence. Blocking is where an athlete who is behind cannot pass due to the
leading athlete being poorly placed on the course.
