+The Second Sunday of Easter
8:30 and 11:00 a.m.

Welcome to our new, temporary worship home!
As construction continues on the 300 level, we will find ourselves at worship here in the
Fellowship Hall through the summer months. Here are a few things that you'll need to
know that will make worship more meaningful for all of us as we gather in a new version of
God's house.
1. Communion will be served by intinction each Sunday of our Fellowship Hall worship.
More information is in the bulletin at the point of distribution, but "think:
left." You'll be exiting by the left, returning to your seat by the opposite aisle.
2. Small boxes containing pencils and extra offering envelopes are located throughout the
worship space under the chairs. There is a box per each row. Please pass them down the
row in which you are sitting at the conclusion of the Sharing of the Peace.
3. Grace Station is located outside the Choir Room and Tree of Life Room. The nursery is
located in the Fireside (Middle School) Room. That's to your right, and just beyond the
pop machine.
4. Greeters are needed each Sunday for both the 75th Street Doors (inside) and the Tower
Doors (outside, pointing folks in the right direction, especially our visitors.) Please sign up
today at Grace Station to take your turn at greeting.
5. The van will continue to run for both services. Its drop off point will be at the North
Fellowship Hall doors. This means that it will
be entering the parking area behind Fellowship
Hall "backwards." That is, it will be pulling in
off 76th Street and delivering its passengers to
those North doors. Please be patient when exiting
the parking lot if the van is blocking the
exit. It will only be doing so for a few minutes
prior to each service.
6. Coffee hour will be served between services
on the tile floor area outside the kitchen. Sign
ups for hosting coffee hour are available at
Grace Station each Sunday. Thanks in advance
for your willingness to serve.

WELCOME
THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM
In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Joined to Christ in the waters of baptism, we are clothed with God’s mercy and
forgiveness. Let us give thanks for the gift of baptism.
We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters
and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight.
Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family. Through the sea you
led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river your Son was baptized by
John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By water and your Word you claim us as daughters
and sons, making us heirs of your promise and servants of all.
We praise you for the gift of water that sustains life, and above all we praise you for
the gift of new life in Jesus Christ. Shower us with your Spirit, and renew our lives
with your forgiveness, grace, and love.
To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, now and forever.
Amen.
SALUTATION AND PRAYER OF THE DAY
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us pray...Almighty God,
with joy we celebrate the day of our Lord's resurrection.
By the grace of Christ among us,
enable us to show the power of the resurrection
in all that we say and do,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.

SERVICE OF THE WORD
FIRST READING: Acts 4:32–35
32Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one
claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common.
33 With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord
Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for
as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold.
35They laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.
Holy wisdom, holy word.
Thanks be to God.
CHILDREN’S WORD
SECOND READING: 1 John 1:1—2:2
We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen
with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of
life — 2 this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the
eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us — 3 we declare to you what we
have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship
is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that our
joy may be complete.
5This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is
light and in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him
while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; 7 but if we walk in the
light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of
Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us
our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we
make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone
does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and he is the
atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
Holy wisdom, holy word.
Thanks be to God.
ALLELUIA VERSE
Please join in singing the CELTIC ALLELUIA at direction of the cantor:
Alleluia, alleluia.
Alleluia, alleluia.
GOSPEL: John 20:19-31
The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the nineteenth chapter.
Glory to you, O Lord.
19When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house
where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among
them and said, "Peace be with you." 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his
side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again,
"Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." 22 When he had said this, he
breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of
any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."
24But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them
when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said
to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of
the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe."
26A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them.
Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with
you." 27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your
hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe." 28 Thomas answered him, "My Lord
and my God!" 29 Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed
are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe."
30Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not
written in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is
the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.
Praise to you, O Christ.
OPENING DIALOG AND PROPER PREFACE
It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give
thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, for the glorious resurrection of our
Savior, Jesus Christ, the true Paschal Lamb who gave himself to take away our sin, who in
dying has destroyed death, and in rising has brought us to eternal life. And so, with Mary
Magdalene and Peter and all the witnesses of the resurrection, with earth and sea and all
their creatures, and with angels and archangels, cherubim and seraphim, we praise your
name and join their unending hymn:

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Holy God, you alone are holy, you alone are God. The universe declares your praise:
beyond the stars; beneath the sea; within each cell; with every breath.
We praise you, O God.
Generations bless your faithfulness: through the water; by night and day; across the wilderness;
out of exile; into the future.
We bless you, O God.
We give you thanks for your dear Son: at the heart of human life; near to those who suffer;
beside the sinner; among the poor; with us now.
We thank you, O God.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This
cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of
sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Remembering his love for us on the way, at the table, and to the end, we proclaim the mystery
of faith:
Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
We pray for the gift of your Spirit: in our gathering; within this meal; among your people;
throughout the world.
Blessing, praise, and thanks to you, holy God, through Christ Jesus, by your Spirit, in your
church, without end.
Amen.
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever.
Amen.
12

FRACTION AND INVITATION
DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION
We welcome you to commune at the table of the Lord. Communion will be served today by intinction at
three stations across the front of the church. Each communicant dips the bread into their choice of either red
wine or white grape juice. Please exit your seats to the left and return by the opposite aisle. Those who do
not commune but wish to receive a blessing are welcome to come forward with folded hands.
LAMB OF GOD
MUSIC DURING THE DISTRIBUTION
Christ is Risen! Alleluia!

POST-COMMUNION BLESSING AND PRAYER
The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace,
now and unto eternal life.
Amen.
Let us pray… We have tasted your goodness, O God, in your gifts of word and sacrament.
May our hearts burn within us, that we may proclaim your mighty acts and joyfully live as
your chosen people; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
SENDING
BENEDICTION AND DISMISSAL
The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
Can YOU change global poverty? Impoverished people worldwide are currently living
on the edge of existence. For the 1.2 billion people who live on incomes of less than $1/
day, their vulnerability to natural disasters, diseases, and persistent food shortages is a daily
life struggle.
Enter: microfinance. Microfinance is the practice of providing small-scale loans and
other financial services to the poor. These loans are then used to start or expand small
businesses, which generate income that leads to better nutrition, health, and housing.
Fill the cart with Non-Food Necessities
It is very hard these days not to think about stretching the family food dollar a bit farther.
Imagine if your decision was whether to buy laundry soap or diapers for your child. Clients of
our food bank have to make decisions like this every week. Often the PRLC food bank will
have a small bag of laundry soap to hand out to clients or a bag of diapers that might last for a
week. Many weeks the food bank is not able to supply these non-food necessities for our
neighbors.
Every month the food bank will be soliciting non-food necessities to help meet the needs of our
clients. We ask that you bring items to the church and deposit them in the shopping cart in the
entryway. Through your generosity we hope to fill the cart with items to share with the many
who come to our doors looking for assistance. The list of items will be posted on the shopping
cart and in the Tower Echoes.
