4. What innovative ideas or goals do you have for Marian High School? What plan of action would
you take to see your goal achieved.
I have many ideas for Marian High School, many of which that include the help and involvement
of the students. Marian does a lot to help the needy in Omaha. I feel this is very important and would love
for Marian to do even more to help our community, through fundraisers, donations, etc. In order to have
success in these activities, you need the support of the students. I also would like for students to become
aware of where their donations are going. In most fundraisers, whether they be for your church,
neighborhood, grade school, or Marian, not a lot of background information is given about where your
money, hand-me-downs, or canned green beans are going. I think people would be inspired to give more
if they knew their food was going to Veterans from Iraq, or last year’s sweater was going to orphans in
need. I think for a lot of people, donations are nothing more than canned foods in the cardboard box at the
front of a classroom or church. They are not provided with information of where their donations are
going, and who is benefiting from them. The benefits of donating to school fundraisers go far beyond a
dress down day or reduced admission to a dance. Donating changes lives. I don’t think people recognize
this. I think it should be a goal of Marian’s to make students more aware of who and what they are
helping.
5. What activities have you been involved in at Marian that will assist you in being a strong and
able leader in student government?
The activities that I’m involved in at Marian that I believe will assist me in being a good leader
for student government include speech, recruitment team, and being on student government. I believe
these will help me because in speech I learn how to talk to and in front of people, as well as how to
become just a more sophisticated person in general. In recruitment team I learn a lot of information about
the school that I wouldn’t know otherwise. I also gained experience working with other Marian girls.
Being a class officer last year will strengthen my ability to serve and lead the class because I understand
what needs to be done to be a good class officer and I know how to motivate the class. I also know how to
work well with a group.
