Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a Minnesota State funded, educational program for families with children from birth to 5 (not yet in kindergarten). The mission of Early Childhood Family Education is to strengthen families through the education and support of all parents and to help parents provide the best possible environment for the healthy growth and development of their children. In District833, ECFE sets the stage for parent involvement and children’s success in K-12 education and builds community by connecting parents of infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Classes include early education experiences for children and parenting resources, education and discussion. Classes are taught by Minnesota State licensed early childhood teachers and licensed parent educators. A Typical ECFE Class... Parent and Child Interaction This is a special time for you and your child to enjoy together. Parents and children explore a classroom filled with developmentally appropriate play and learning activities. The Minnesota Early Learning Standards provide a framework with a focus on foundational learning activities which include social emotional, language, literacy, cognitive and physical development. Parent Education and Discussion Parents meet for information about child development and parenting techniques. This is a great time for sharing individual experiences and getting parenting information and education. The Minnesota Parent Education Core Curriculum provides a framework for a wide range of relevant parent education topics. Within the domains of parent development, parent-child relationships, early childhood develipment, family development, culture and community. Early Childhood Experience Children enjoy learning experiences taught by the licensed Early Childhood teacher. A variety of classroom activities are provided to assist children in becoming competent learners. A variety of learning opportunitites are provided to practice social skills, problem solve and learn important foundational school readiness skills. ECFE Classes… Separating Classes After parent/child interactive activity time, children remain engaged in learning activities with the early childhood team in the classroom. While parents are provided with a separate time for parent disucssion. Non-Separating Classes In non-separating classes parents remain in class with children and the early childhood team for parent education and discussion. Staff are available to assist with children during parent discussion. Parent and Child Activity Classes Parent and child activity classes are non-separating classes. These classes offer a wide variety of early childhood learning experiences for parents and children to participate in together. A licensed teacher is always available to answer questions. Sibling Care On-site sibling care is available during most classes so parents can give special attention to the child enrolled in the class. Siblings under 8 weeks can stay with parents in the classroom. Siblings must be registered for a full semester. Fee information can be found on the sliding fee scale on page 14. With advanced notice, sibling care may be available on a one time basis, if space is available.
