Rules of Performing section<br />

(piano-bows-wind instruments-canto-guitar-harp- percussions<br />

ancient music-bands-choirs)<br />

The competition is for young musicians of every nationality and is<br />

divided into 4 sections:<br />

Sect.1: SOLOISTS (violin, cello, wind instruments, guitar, piano,<br />

harp, canto, percussions, accordion)<br />

Sect.2: JUNIORES<br />

Sect.3: CHAMBER MUSIC<br />

(from duos to orchestras, choirs, jazz, ancient music, bands)<br />

Sect.4: FOUR HANDS<br />

Section n. 1 soloists is divided into:<br />

CAT. A: participants born in 2000-01-02. Free choice performance<br />

(max. 5 minutes)<br />

CAT. B: participants born in 1997-98-99. Free choice performance<br />

(max. 10 minutes)<br />

CAT.C: participants born in 1994-95-96. Free choice performance<br />

(max. 12 minutes)<br />

CAT. D: participants born in 1991-92-93. Free choice performance<br />

(max.15 minutes)<br />

CAT. E: participants born in 1988-89-90. Free choice performance<br />

(max.15 minutes)<br />

CAT. F: no age limits.<br />

1) Participants will have to phone to be informed of possible variations in<br />

the timetable of performances.<br />

2) Candidates will have to be at Reggia di Quisisana at 9.00a.m. on the<br />

scheduled day. A candidate, together with the secretary of the jury, will<br />

draw a letter of the alphabet to determine the order of performers.<br />

3) Before starting their performances, the candidates will be requested to<br />

exhibit an identity document, the list of pieces to be performed with<br />

relative duration and a copy of the scores of the mentioned pieces.<br />

4) During performances the board of examiners can ask to listen to<br />

one or more of the pieces proposed, and has the faculty to interrupt<br />

performances at any moment or to ask for a repetition of the piece. The<br />

board’s judgement is final.<br />

5) Classifications will be communicated at the end of each performance<br />

of the relative section.<br />

6) Members of the board of examiners cannot be neither teachers nor<br />

relatives of candidates; should anyone inadvertently be, he/she will not<br />

take part in the voting, under penalty of loss of the possible award and of<br />

expulsion from the board.<br />

7) Soloists can perform pieces with or without accompaniment: for pieces<br />

with accompaniment, the candidates have to personally find it. For<br />

candidates in need of an accompanying pianist, they can ask for the one<br />

provided by the organization sending the scores at least 15 days before<br />

the Competition, enclosing a suppletive fee of 50 euros.<br />

8) Absolute winners of previous editions can compete, but not in the same<br />

section and group.<br />

9) The board can decide not to award the prizes should the participants be<br />

unworthy.<br />

10) All accompaniments will be certified on request.<br />

11) All travelling and lodging expenses are charged to the candidates.<br />

Registrations will mean the automatic approval of these rules.<br />

12) Candidates will have to use their own music stands, amplifiers,<br />

audio-visual backups, instrumental tracks and whatever necessary to their<br />

performance.<br />

13) The Artistic Direction has the right to modify these rules.<br />

14) Registrations are to be made within May 6th 2013 (date as postmark)<br />

at: Associazione Musicale “Le Camenae”, Via Crapolla II n° 75 – 80045,<br />

Pompei (NA), enclosing the following documents:<br />

- Participation form (or photocopy) completely filled in and<br />

signed, with receipt of payment.<br />

- For chamber music groups it is necessary to send a participation<br />

form for each person in one only envelope.<br />

- Please enclose a photocopy of an identity document<br />

15) Registration fee (in no case refundable)<br />

- 60 euros for soloists (section 1)<br />

- 50 euros for soloists (section 2 juniores)<br />

- 30 euros for each person in chamber music groups (sections 3 and 4)<br />

17) All candidates obtaining 100/100 (except for juniors) will compete<br />

on Friday, May 17th for the prizes and the concerts.<br />

The forms stating merit and participation and the results of the absolute<br />

prizes will be communicated on May 18th, after the concert.<br />

18) AWARDS: PER<strong>FOR</strong>MANCE SECTION<br />

I absolute award 100/100<br />

(mandatory performance on May 17th, h.17,00).<br />

I award 96-99/100 – II award 91-95/100 – III award 86-90/100.<br />

19) All awarded musicians will receive a Merit Diploma during the gala<br />

evening. To receive the Diploma afterwards it is necessary to pay 25<br />

euros for mailing and secretary work expenses.<br />

20) Upon request, a Diploma ad Honorem will be granted to all the<br />

teachers whose pupils classify I, II and III.<br />

Rules for schools<br />

(Primary, middle school, secondary and Musical lyceums)<br />

1) The section is reserved solely to primary and secondary school<br />

students and is divided in two categories:<br />

Cat A: Soloists (violin, cello, clarinet, guitar,wind instruments, piano,<br />

harp, canto, percussions, etc.). Free choice program up to 5 minutes.<br />

Cat B: Ensemble, from duos to orchestras, choirs. Free choice program<br />

up to 5 minutes (from duos to octets), up to 15 minutes (Choirs and<br />

orchestras).<br />

Categories A and B will be divided in classes.<br />

2) Performances will be held on May 13th and 14th.<br />

Schedules to be decided with the Secretary of the Competition.<br />

3) Registrations within May 6th 2013 at:<br />

Associazione Musicale “Le Camenae”,<br />

Via Crapolla II n° 75 – 80045, Pompei (NA),<br />

enclosing certificate of attendance, list of participants specifying Name,<br />

surname, instrument, kind of musical group, program for each<br />

participant.<br />

4) The Board has the right to decide not to assign prizes should<br />

participants not be worthy.<br />

School participating with more than two candidates an attendance<br />

certificate and envoice of payment will be necessary.<br />

5) Registration fee (in no case refundable): € 10 soloists.<br />

€5 for each component of chamber music, from duos onward.<br />

6) Payment can be made through:<br />

Study at the Conservatory of Naples<br />

"San Pietro a Majella" having for<br />

masters Mercadante and Serrao.<br />

Author of melodramas and<br />

romances mostly chamber, however,<br />

his name is linked to the Neapolitan<br />

song "Funiculi Funiculà" to music in<br />

1880 in the lobby of the Hotel Stabia.<br />

This was the rst Neapolitan song<br />

that went around the world and still<br />

can be said as emblematic of a city<br />

had been able to grasp why the<br />

quota for a universal: the desire to<br />

live, the exuberant enthusiasm of a<br />

people heir to a great past.<br />

Luigi Denza settled in London in<br />

1879 and became co-director since<br />
