• A general understanding of the federal and provincial government decision-making process<br />
• An ability to use your knowledge and skill in assisting the First Nation to move towards a modern<br />
interpretation of treaties, historical land use, and/or historical First Nation economy<br />
Communication and interpersonal skills:<br />
• You have excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills to develop trust and positive working<br />
relationships with senior management and staff at all levels<br />
• You have proven communication skills to participate or collaborate in a team and inter-tribal approach to<br />
treaty and historical land-use data and knowledge<br />
• You have demonstrated communication, word processing and audio-visual skills to review, write and edit<br />
(i.e. reports, correspondence, speaking notes and other communications)<br />
Other Essential Skills:<br />
• You have demonstrated experience applying your knowledge of research methodologies and analysis<br />
techniques<br />
• You have project planning, coordination and organizational skills to manage and coordinate a range of<br />
complex research projects within limited timeframes<br />
• You can demonstrate sensitivity to issues, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality<br />
Qualifications:<br />
• A valid Driver’s License for occasional travel<br />
• A clear Criminal Records Check<br />
• A Bachelor’s Degree in either History, Anthropology, Native Studies, Political Science, Environmental<br />
Studies or Law; plus four or more years of experience in land claims, historical research or natural<br />
resources management<br />
OR<br />
A Graduate Degree in History, Anthropology or Native Studies with a focus on historical or modern<br />
southern Ontario First Nation tribal groups; and a combination of credible work, publication or consulting<br />
experience that can be verified through references<br />
