ZONE ATHLETICS On Tuesday 19 May, fifty Camden Haven High School students had an early start and travelled to Nambucca Heads for Lower North Coast Zone Athletics. It was a beautiful day and we were very competitive against the other schools in the zone area. All students who participated and represented our school on the day should once again be proud of their efforts and behaviour on the day. It has been a big term of sport and I would like to thank everyone who has played a role in making it such a success. Ms D Lawrence Sports Coordinator BOYS TENNIS The Camden Haven boy’s tennis campaign for 2012 has now come to an end after they were defeated six sets to two by Coffs Harbour Senior College. The schedule this year has not involved a lot of tennis, but the boys reached the North Coast Region semi-final. We received a bye in round one, a forfeit in round two and defeated Wauchope in round three.
The semi final match against Coffs Harbour Senior College at Kempsey saw the first two doubles sets shared. Blake Clarke and Joshua Kelly defeated the opposition 6/4 whilst in the other doubles match Jayden and Blake Hudson went down to the tune of 6/1. The quality of the tennis was extremely high, with strong ground strokes and attacking play at the net. Blake Clarke is ranked highly in the state for his age but there were two very classy players in the opposition. It must be remembered that the opposition were in Year 11 and 12, while the Camden Haven boys are in Year 8, 9 and 12. In the singles, Jayden went down 6/1 to a very strong competitor. Blake H battled long and hard for a 6/4 victory over his opposition. Blake C also played a classy opponent and was down 0/5 before he fought back to lose 6/4 in a top quality set. Josh lost his singles 6/3 which was an extremely good result for a player in his first representative match. In the reverse doubles, Jayden and Blake H lost 6/4, while Blake C and Josh lost 6/1. The final result was Coffs Harbour 6 sets - 42 games to Camden Haven 2 sets – 26 games. This was the last sporting representation at Camden Haven High School for Jayden – a sportsman who shows great determination, sportsmanship and a very thoughtful approach to the game. He always keeps a cool head and has been Captain of both the school cricket and tennis teams. He has acted as Captain, Coach and Manager of the tennis team for several years. CANTEEN NEWS The students are enjoying the hot meals that we have on offer during the colder months: pasta bolognaise, chicken and gravy rolls, fried rice, beef stir fries, toasted sandwiches and chicken curry pies. Thanks once again to all our wonderful volunteers. As always, we are looking for more volunteers for the canteen. Volunteering involves making sandwiches, salads and wraps for recess and lunch as well as serving the food to the students. There is NO NEED TO HANDLE ANY MONEY. You can volunteer once a week, once a month or once a term, even if you can only spare a couple of hours on a day. Any time you can spare would be greatly appreciated. It would be great to have some new volunteers to help our committed regular volunteers. If you can assist in any way please give Amanda or Susan a call on 6556 8120. OH&S regulations require us to wear covered in shoes and keep long hair tied back whilst in the canteen.
