The date was June 20,
1947. Benjamin “Bugsy”
Siegel sat in the living
room of the home he shared
with Virginia Hill in Beverly
Hills. Late that night, Siegel was
shot several times and died
on the couch as he read the
newspaper.
Siegel had recently opened
the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas
and his associates suspected he
was skimming money. However,
many theories exist as to why he
was murdered. Had he been
involved in a love triangle between
Virginia Hill and another
mobster? Or had he upset the
wrong people involved in the race
wire? There were so many motives
involved, the police captain
in Beverly Hills said: “So many
people wanted to kill him that we
don’t know where to start looking."
The Mob Museum will host a
panel discussion on the life and
death of Bugsy Siegel on Tuesday,
March 24, 2015, at 7 p.m. with
Larry Gragg, professor and author
on Siegel’s life, and Warren Hull,
filmmaker and historian. The Mob
Museum's Geoff Shumacher will
moderate the discussion on the
various theories surrounding the
circumstances of Siegel's death.

understanding of organized
crime’s history and impact on
American society. Previous
Courtroom Conversations have
included “Women in Gaming,”
featuring Elaine Wynn and Jan
Jones Blackhurst, and “Protectors
of the State,” with former
Nevada governors Bob List,
Richard Bryan and Bob Miller.
On Thursday, April 16, the
Museum will host Follow the
Money about the T-men, the
forensic accountants of the
Treasury Department. T-
men helped to get to the
bottom of some of the most
high-profile cases and put
away notorious mobsters,
including Al Capone, who
was linked to Lindbergh
kidnapping.

VOLUNTEERS
OF THE MONTH
With a passion for history, engaging with
others and having a good time, Jane Beathard
and Joe Johnson are true ambassadors for
The Mob Museum as both volunteers and
Members.
Jane, a crime reporter in Ohio, and her
partner Joe have been volunteers at The Mob
Museum since November. In their short time
with the Museum, they have promoted Membership
and Volunteer opportunities at the
Clark County Library’s Mob Month program,
engaged Museum visitors as greeters and
provided a welcoming environment to attendees
at our Sports Betting program.

Women’s History Month tours look at
women in law enforcement & the Mob
For Women’s History Month in March,
The Mob Museum is offering two special
guided tours on March 7 and March 21
from 4-5:30 p.m. exploring the theme of
women in organized crime and law
enforcement.
During the tours, participants will
learn about everything from the definition
of “gun moll,” to women’s roles in
both the Temperance Movement and
Prohibition-Era bootlegging. Highlighted
women include Virginia Hill (above),
Donna Congeni Fitzsimmons, Whitey
Bulger’s girlfriend Catherine Grieg and
more. Guided tours are $10 per person
on top of regular admission.

AUDIO TOURS
For the first time, the Museum has made audio tours
available to its visitors. Recorded in English, Spanish,
Mandarin and Portuguese, the tours enable the
Museum to speak to a wider audience, including the
growing number of international visitors who travel
to Las Vegas each year. A grant from the City of Las
Vegas’ Centennial Commission funded the production
of the new audio tours.
MEMBERSHIP
The Mob Museum’s Membership has grown to 600
active Members. Members enjoy unlimited admission
for an entire year and year-round benefits, including
Artifacts After Hours presentations and Wiseguy
Speaker Series — both programs created exclusively
for Members. They also are the first to receive information
regarding special events and speakers, as well

currently on the market. The price is set at $777,000,
which is very fitting considering Rosenthal was a
famed casino operator and affiliate for the Mob. Read
