the Central Okanagan to enjoy our programs and events.<br />

The <strong>Peachland</strong> Community Centre is a wonderful venue for weddings, dances, special events, meetings, etc. Our<br />
facility features a main room accommodating up to 500 people. Our banquet room accommodates up to 100<br />
people. We also have a commercial kitchen to support your event’s food preparation and catering needs. For more<br />

Early Childhood Development Programs<br />
Preschooler’s Playhouse 3 - 4 yrs<br />
Registration for Fall 2010 <strong>Peachland</strong>’s licensed preschool,<br />
Preschooler’s Playhouse, starts on April 1st, 2010. <strong>Peachland</strong>’s<br />
licensed preschool is operated by the <strong>District</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Peachland</strong>’s Recreation Dept, in partnership with School<br />
<strong>District</strong> #23, with the classroom located at the <strong>Peachland</strong><br />
Elementary School. This excellent program instils the<br />
values <strong>of</strong> early learning in literacy, mathematics,& social<br />
skills assisting with a child’s preparation for kindergarten.<br />
We <strong>of</strong>fer programs for three year olds and a separate<br />
program for four year olds.<br />
Registration for Fall preschool takes place at the <strong>Peachland</strong><br />
Recreation Office, 4450 6th St. For all information<br />
regarding Preschooler’s Playhouse, including program<br />
structure and information, registration requirements,<br />
fees, and subsidies available through the Preschool Partnership,<br />

Fitness Friends Child Minding<br />
Come and play with your fitness friends while your parent/caregiver<br />
goes to exercise class. Children will have<br />
quality childminding in a fun safe environment which<br />
include some arts, crafts, active games, story time and<br />
free play. Parents/ caregivers can choose to attend the<br />
Boot Camp class <strong>of</strong>fered at 3:00-4:00 pm or work out in<br />
the fitness room during that time. Please see our Active<br />

Children’s Programs<br />
After School Care<br />
Our licensed After School Care program is held at the<br />
<strong>Peachland</strong> Elementary School, while our licensed Out <strong>of</strong><br />
School Care (school holidays, vacation time and Pro D<br />
Days) is held at the <strong>Peachland</strong> Community Centre. These<br />
licensed care programs are designed for children in Kindergarten<br />
up to the age <strong>of</strong> 12, and serve both subsidized<br />
and non-subsidized families. Healthy child development<br />
and best practise child care policies are followed by our<br />
qualified and caring staff in a fun and friendly environment.<br />
Children learn and develop social skills through<br />
playing, have lots <strong>of</strong> active opportunities indoors and<br />
outdoors, games, develop their skills in arts and crafts,<br />
provided with a healthy snack and plenty <strong>of</strong> time is<br />
scheduled for doing their homework while they are in<br />
our care. For more information on rates, hours <strong>of</strong> operation<br />
times, or to find out about subsidies, please call us<br />

Active Kids<br />
Children ages 3-5 will have fun while improving their<br />
motor skills and learn age appropriate skills in a variety<br />
<strong>of</strong> sports and active games. Start them young for a life<br />

KinderCare<br />
We <strong>of</strong>fer KinderCare at the <strong>Peachland</strong> Elementary School<br />
(11:00-2:00 pm). Should you need childcare after 2 pm,<br />
go for our seamless day, where families can conveniently<br />
use the After School Care program, which looks after<br />
your after school care needs. Spaces available for both<br />
full time and part time spots. Registration is ongoing,<br />
and is on a first come, first serve basis. Call us at the<br />

Indoor Soccer Active Program<br />
This indoor soccer program follows a positive approach<br />
in delivering a progressive program where the child<br />
will be introduced to the game <strong>of</strong> soccer, develop skills<br />
through drills and fun games that will assist the child in<br />
strengthening their ability as a soccer player.<br />

Karate Grade 4 - 6 Active Program<br />
This progressive and dynamic Shotokan Karatedo style<br />
<strong>of</strong> karate teaches the learner techniques and skills to<br />

and control <strong>of</strong> body, mind and spirit. Instructor<br />

movement. The instructor’s teaching approach flows on<br />

Hatha Yoga with Kym<br />
Take time to stretch and explore your inner essence in<br />
this relaxed Hatha yoga class. Expand the value <strong>of</strong> compassion<br />
by listening to your own body wisdom. Improve<br />
the quality <strong>of</strong> your life with yoga poses and breath-work<br />
which nourish body, mind and spirit. All levels <strong>of</strong> yoga<br />
are welcome, including beginners. Kym Blackburn is a<br />
trained Hatha Yoga teacher at Yasodhara Ashram, Kootenay<br />
Bay BC based on teachings <strong>of</strong> Swami Sivananda<br />

PM Yoga<br />
This all levels Hatha Yoga class incorporates an adapted<br />

breathing techniques, warm up asanas, standing and<br />
balancing poses, inverted poses, floor asanas all that<br />
promotes flexibility, strength and muscle endurance and<br />

Strength Training<br />
It is important as we get older to keep up our muscular<br />
and core strength and do weight bearing exercises<br />
that <strong>of</strong>fset problems such as osteoporosis. It is also important<br />
to keep in mind how the aging process affects<br />
how we approach exercise with special considerations<br />
for our abilities. Chris Durnford, certified strength trainer<br />
instructor will help you learn the proper techniques with<br />
a progressive but wise approach to your strength training.<br />

Spin (Cycling) with Sue<br />
Join these hot spin fitness classes which simulate real<br />
road riding on our Lemond Spin bikes. Sue’s a Level 3<br />
coach who’s low/no impact spin classes feature: warmup,<br />
purposeful aerobic and non-aerobic training, cooldown<br />
and stretch with some core work. It’s great indoor<br />
winter training for cyclists and triathletes a well as a general<br />
fitness builder. Beginners are encouraged to start<br />
with the 1 hour classes. No class May 24.<br />

Spin, Strength, Stretch — 3S<br />
Join Sue for the 3S (Spin, Strength & Stretch) formerly<br />
known as spin weights and stretch is split into 40<br />
mins. <strong>of</strong> spin cycling for aerobic conditioning, 30 minutes<br />
strength for muscle tone and strength, and 20 min<br />
stretch for flexibility and muscle extensibility. Strength<br />
work includes, weights, stability balls, core and balance.<br />
Classic Spin Classes<br />
Get motivated in these instructor led, spin to music<br />
classes. Certified Spin and Triathlon coach Chris Durnford’s<br />
style <strong>of</strong> spin class helps you get fit through spin<br />
cycling in an inspired class great for any level because<br />
they are self paced by each individual and fun to do to<br />
music. Participants should bring water bottle, towel and<br />
the will to spin for fun and fitness.<br />

Adult Badminton<br />
Badminton is a popular program for players <strong>of</strong> any<br />
age. Register for this active and social program and<br />
you will have a great evening. We have racquets, but<br />

Pickle Ball<br />
This fun indoor court game is a spin <strong>of</strong>f <strong>of</strong> three sports.<br />
Pickle Ball is played on a badminton court, using tennis<br />
rules and uses a racquet that resembles a ping pong<br />
paddle. Instead <strong>of</strong> a tennis ball or shuttlecock, players<br />
use a wiffle ball. Lots <strong>of</strong> fun, great exercise and a wonderful<br />
social opportunity. Casual/friendly instruction<br />

<strong>Peachland</strong> Half Marathon Run / Walk<br />
Don’t miss this <strong>Peachland</strong> Active event. In our 2nd year<br />
with the <strong>Peachland</strong> Half Marathon, participants will enjoy<br />
the scenic but challenging two loop course totalling 21<br />
k. Participants can either walk or run in competition. 10<br />
year age groups, medals for top three in each age group.<br />
Entry fee includes t shirt and event item, plus post event<br />
refreshments. Register early! Enjoy training with our running<br />

<strong>Peachland</strong> Beach Run<br />
Don’t miss the 25th annual <strong>Peachland</strong> Beach Run. Enter<br />
either the 5 or 10 k run or 5 k walk. This event is also<br />
a fundraiser for Children’s Cancer. Watch for the race<br />
forms to be available in April. For more information after<br />
April 1st, call 250-767-2133. Race participants get a great<br />
souvenir technical shirt. Recognition for the top three in<br />
each 10 year age group.<br />
<strong>Peachland</strong> Triathlon<br />
The 15th Annual <strong>Peachland</strong> Triathlon is on Sunday, July<br />
25th, 2010, with the race starting at 7 am. The 750 meter<br />
lake swim heads south for 325 meters along the shoreline<br />
returning back to the Swim Bay area. Athletes then<br />
jump on their bicycles for a 20 k ride and finish <strong>of</strong>f with<br />
a 5 k run. This sprint distance race is great for triathletes<br />
<strong>of</strong> all calibers and is a great start for first timers participants.<br />

need Volunteers too. Volunteers get a breakfast and shirt<br />

Rattle Snake Island Swim<br />
The 2010 Rattle Snake Island Swim will take place on Saturday,<br />
August 14th 2010. Start training now for either the<br />
3.1 or 7k open water swim in Okanagan Lake. There is a<br />
post swim breakfast following at the community centre.<br />
Swimmers are required to be accompanied by a paddler<br />
or kayaker. Wetsuits recommended. Don’t miss out on<br />

Easter Egg Hunt<br />
Join the Easter Fun at <strong>Peachland</strong>’s Easter Egg Hunt<br />
held on Good Friday. Children from toddlers to<br />
Grade 6 are welcomed to hunt for eggs, and enjoy<br />
