Open Bottom Dry Trap (OBT) -<br />
dry synthetic lure<br />
General description<br />
This trap is an open-bottom cylindrical dry<br />
trap that can be made from opaque green plastic<br />
or wax-coated green cardboard. It has a transparent<br />
plastic top, three equally-spaced holes around<br />
the circumference of the cylinder midway between<br />
the ends, an open bottom, and is used with a sticky<br />
insert. It is used with the synthetic female fruit <strong>fly</strong><br />
attractant previously described in areas where<br />
more expensive plastic or glass McPhail type traps<br />
cannot be used.<br />
The food based synthetic chemical attractant<br />
is used to capture mainly female medflies but<br />
has the ability to capture also males. The synthetic<br />
female fruit <strong>fly</strong> lures previously described are attached<br />
to the inside walls of the cylinder. Servicing<br />
is easy because the sticky insert can be manipulated<br />
the same as the inserts used in Jackson<br />
traps.<br />
