General Guidelines
• Eligibility of students for Title I
services will be determined
using a multi-criteria approach.
• Each grade level team will
review and agree upon the
criteria.
• Each student will be evaluated
using the same criteria to
determine which children have
the greatest need for services.
• Criteria will be used six times per school year;
o September (NWEA/MAP; SRI)
o November (district report card)
o January (NWEA/MAP; SRI)

• Classroom teacher will do initial assessments to check for
eligibility.
Criteria for selection of students includes (assessment tools):
o MAP scores / NWEA
o MEAP test scores
o Scholastic Phonics Inventory (SPI) scores
o Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) scores (3-5)
o Fountas and Pinnell Reading Benchmark Assessment
(K-2) or Ann Arbor Reading Benchmark Assessment (3-5)
o Grade level report card outcomes
Pittsfield Elementary Title I Parent Involvement Policy
As Pittsfield Elementary Staff, we commit to communicating with you regularly to explain
your child’s achievement goals, schedule parent meetings at convenient times, use your
suggestions to improve our home-school partnership and to improve family participation.
We will provide translated materials whenever possible.
Seeking what you need from Pittsfield Elementary when we meet with you in a variety of
settings:
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences (Fall conferences)
Home Visits (scheduled at a mutually convenient time)

Curriculum Night Title I Event
Parents of Title I students will attend the first annual meeting where you will be welcomed
to review supplemental programming for your student(s) and receive a description of the
school’s curriculum and the Title I Entry and Exit criteria. It is at this first Title I event
where we will seek your input as to your child’s previous experience at school, and any
suggestions you have to better the Title I experience for your child and family. It is at this
event where we will begin to seek input for this year’s School-Parent compact ~ together!

Pittsfield Elementary Parent - School Compact
The Pittsfield Elementary Parent – School Compact is collaboration among parents, students
and teachers who share the goals of high academic achievement for every student in a safe,
nurturing environment. To ensure these goals,
we agree to contribute to the community in these ways:
As parents/guardians, we will:
• Make sure that our child attends school regularly and arrives on time so s/he will receive the full
benefit of instruction
• Encourage good study habits at home and at school, supporting our child in the completion of
homework to help reinforce what s/he has learned during the school day, by helping her/him find
the time and a quiet spot to work at home
• Communicate with our child’s teacher regularly, in person, by phone or by email, during both
easy and difficult periods
• Encourage our child to solve problems peacefully, modeling and talking about problem-solving
strategies in our home
• Show our belief in the importance of school by attending scheduled conferences, volunteering
whenever possible, and participating in classroom enrichment events
As a Pittsfield School student, I will:
• Know that I can, and do, learn something new every day
• Work hard every day to do my personal best
• Complete and return my homework
• Treat everyone with kindness and respect, and if a problem happens, I will solve it
peacefully
• Ask for help whenever I need it, and give help when someone else needs it
As a Pittsfield teacher or support staff member, I will:
• Provide high-quality curriculum, using Guided Reading, Everyday Math, and Science and
Social Studies as outlined in state guidelines
• Keep the lines of communication open with students and parents, by means of phone,
email, and in-person contact.
• Send formal progress reports home in November, March, and June of each school year.
• Recognize, support and appreciate the diversity of our school community
• Help children learn the skills to solve conflicts in a peaceful manner
• Respect and encourage the individual strengths in each child, building on these to ensure
continuous growth within our learning community

Description of Parent Involvement Events continued:
NAAPID - National African American Parent Involvement Day
On the second Monday of February, we welcome you to join Pittsfield Families to
experience a day-in-the-life of your Title I students. In addition, we structure time for you
to connect with other Title I families and staff and share your experiences and make
suggestions to enhance our Title I program. We value your input! You will have the
opportunity to experience curriculum supports that you can use at home with your child
(ren), such as “math games”.
School Improvement Team Meetings
Title I parents and their input are the focal points of at least three School Improvement
Team meetings throughout the school year. Please plan to attend these meeting with
you in mind on the following dates:
Monday, November 26, 2012 (including another look at the school-parent compact)
Monday, February 25, 2013 (including another look at the T1 parent involvement policy)
Monday, April 29, 2013 (including another look at the T1 entry / exit criteria)
These School Improvement Team meetings will be another opportunity for Title I parents
to provide input for school / Title I program improvement and review evaluation findings
for policy revision. In addition, such meetings will provide an opportunity for Title I
parents to provide assistance to Pittsfield Elementary in planning and implementing
meaningful parent involvement activities, revise the School-Parent Compact, the Title I
Parent Involvement Policy, and more.
End of Year Title I Breakfast
The End-of-Year Title I breakfast provides a time to celebrate our Title I students’
accomplishments and share these with our parents. It is also the time to have parents
share their opinions as to what were the “hits” and / or “misses” for the past school year
and an opportunity to help Pittsfield Elementary’s Title I program to plan for the following
school year based on Title I parents’ responses.
