and the Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment Committee are defined in the Shared<br />

Governance Committee Handbook. (II.A.41, II.A.42) Since the last comprehensive<br />

institutional evaluation in spring 2007, an impressive list of activities and milestone<br />

achievements of the PPA and SLO Committees are documented and referenced. (II.A.43)<br />

Area Deans have had an important role in implementing the schedule for course and program<br />

revision and facilitating the communication process through various department and division<br />

meetings. Deans assure compliance with the course and program review process and play a<br />

key role in establishing area budget priorities based upon program assessment and review<br />

outcomes. Division meetings facilitate the flow of communication between disciplines as<br />

program review materials are shared and resources needed for continued improvement are<br />

considered.<br />

Self Evaluation<br />

Procedures are in place to guide the course and program development and assessment<br />

process via the activities of the Curriculum Committee and the Student Learning Outcomes<br />

and Program Planning and Assessment Committees. Data to support the program assessment<br />

process is organized and available via the Student Access & Success Research Center (Title<br />

V Grant-funded research tools) and other internal and external data sources. Dialog about the<br />

results of various assessment processes takes place regularly within discipline and division<br />

meetings. Course and program assessment drive plans for improvement and faculty members<br />

take full responsibility for the development and evaluation of courses and programs.<br />

The college meets this standard.<br />

Planning Agenda<br />

By spring 2013, the SLO and PPA Committees will collaborate with the interim Dean of<br />

Institutional Planning and Effectiveness to review the program evaluation process and forms<br />

to ensure that program needs are being expressed and supported with sufficient data and<br />

evidence to justify budget expenditures.<br />

Working with the PPA Committee, the Financial Information Subcommittee, and Resource<br />

Allocation Committee, the interim Dean of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness will<br />

establish formal processes and timelines linking comprehensive program review documents<br />

to resource allocation and the shared governance process by spring 2013.<br />

II.A.2.b<br />

The institution relies on faculty expertise and the assistance of advisory committees when<br />

appropriate to identify competency levels and measurable student learning outcomes for<br />

courses, certificates, programs including general and vocational education, and degrees.<br />

The institution regularly assesses student progress towards achieving those outcomes.<br />
