STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES<br />

The institution recruits and admits diverse students who are able to benefit from its<br />

programs, consistent with its mission. Student support services address the identified needs<br />

of students and enhance a supportive learning environment. The entire student pathway<br />

through the institutional experience is characterized by a concern for student access,<br />

progress, learning, and success. The institution systematically assesses student support<br />

services using student learning outcomes, faculty and staff input, and other appropriate<br />

measures in order to improve the effectiveness of these services.<br />

The institution assures the quality of student support services and demonstrates that these<br />

services, regardless of location or means of delivery, support student learning and enhance<br />

achievement of the mission of the institution.<br />

Descriptive Summary<br />

<strong>Hartnell</strong> <strong>College</strong> provides instruction and services to students attending the Main Campus in<br />

Salinas, the Center for Advanced Technology in the Alisal area of Salinas, the King City<br />

Education Center in King City, and via online programs. Each term, the college serves more<br />

than 9,000 enrolled students. <strong>Hartnell</strong> <strong>College</strong> is committed to providing high quality student<br />

support services regardless of location or means of delivery.<br />

The providing of student support services is the responsibility of all <strong>College</strong> divisions,<br />

including Academic Affairs (through tutoring, Math and English Labs, supplemental<br />

instruction, basic skills, etc), Business Services (through cashiering, bus passes, maintaining<br />

parking structures, supporting teaching stations, etc.), Technology and Library Services<br />

(through web and Internet resources, supporting language and computing labs, maintaining<br />

smart classrooms, updating the e-<strong>College</strong> and distance learning backbone, updating our<br />

operating/testing/evaluation software and systems, etc.), and Student Affairs. In 2011-12, the<br />

Division of Student Affairs is comprised of the following units and services:<br />
