Breadth Pattern (CSU GE Breadth) requirements vary up to a maximum of 39<br />
units.<br />
C. Certified completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer<br />
Curriculum (IGETC) requires up to 37 units.<br />
12. Academic Freedom<br />
The college embraces academic freedom. Board Policy 4030 states, in part:<br />
“<strong>Hartnell</strong> Community <strong>College</strong> District is committed to the principle that the free expression of<br />
ideas is essential to the education of its students and to the effective governance of its colleges...<br />
Academic freedom shall be guaranteed to all academic employees. No special limitations shall<br />
be placed upon study, investigation, presentation, and interpretation of facts and ideas<br />
concerning human society, the physical and biological world, and other branches of learning,<br />
subject to accepted standards of professional responsibility…”<br />
13. Faculty<br />
<strong>Hartnell</strong> <strong>College</strong> has a substantial core of qualified faculty with full-time responsibility to the<br />
institution, sufficient to support the college‘s educational programs. The collective bargaining<br />
agreement for faculty clearly states the responsibilities of faculty members, to include the<br />
development and upgrading of curriculum and student learning outcomes, and assessing student<br />
learning. All faculty hold credentials from regionally accredited institutions that meet or exceed<br />
the credentials required to teach their discipline. Faculty professional development is provided in<br />
a variety of ways, including individual and group flex days and online activities. Faculty names,<br />
their degrees, and the institutions that bestowed those degrees are stated in the college Catalog.<br />
14. Student Services<br />
<strong>Hartnell</strong> <strong>College</strong> provides a comprehensive range of student services that support student<br />
development and learning within the context of the college‘s mission. Student support services<br />
are regularly assessed and improved to meet the needs of all students. Student services, including<br />
library and tutorial services, are available to the entire <strong>Hartnell</strong> community, including online<br />
students, through the college‘s website and in person. The website allows students to find and<br />
register for classes, access the Online Bookstore and the Library's online databases, and soon<br />
will have an online counseling orientation to bolster the counseling FAQs that already exist.<br />
All <strong>Hartnell</strong> students, including those at the Alisal Campus, the King City Center, and those<br />
taking classes online, are provided access to hardware, software, the course management system<br />
and assistance for its use, and tutorial support through the Library Media Center. Technical<br />
support is provided to students and faculty by campus staff. Student Services staff analyze<br />
unduplicated enrollments to identify students who are enrolled only in courses at the Alisal<br />
Campus, King City Center, or online to plan for appropriate staffing and support services for<br />
those sites.<br />
15. Admissions<br />
<strong>Hartnell</strong> <strong>College</strong> has adopted and adheres to admission policies consistent with its mission and<br />
Title 5 regulations. These policies, printed in the college Catalog and available online, specify<br />
the qualifications appropriate for the college‘s instructional programs.<br />
