Vernon & District Immigrant Services Society<br />
Focus: Steps towards an independent association<br />
Attendance: Svetlana Ritter, Gabi Ronzani, Ann Lu, Bin Wen, Yuny, Xiomy Klettke, Mitsuyo<br />
Kaneda, Natalia Usserman, Berta Lopera, Annette Sharkey and Luciana Coman<br />
9:30 – 10:15 Information Session <strong>of</strong>fered by Annette to our new member: Mitsuyo Kaneda, an<br />
Art Teacher from Japan. Bin Wen a S<strong>of</strong>tware Engineer from China attended for <strong>the</strong> first time<br />
to our <strong>meeting</strong>s. We would like to thank you for <strong>the</strong>ir time!<br />
Members registered and networked over a cup <strong>of</strong> c<strong>of</strong>fee.<br />
10:15 – 11:00 Overview <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Project<br />
Our goals to have a Forum and <strong>the</strong> Successful Stories – section on <strong>the</strong> website were<br />
successfully implemented<br />
• Website Committee – forum information – Luciana/Natalia<br />
Luciana and Natalia presented us a short overview <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong><strong>BC</strong>ITP</strong> <strong>Net</strong> Forum.<br />
Participants were informed about <strong>the</strong> necessity <strong>of</strong> register as a <strong><strong>BC</strong>ITP</strong> <strong>Net</strong> Forum<br />
member to be able to start posting new topics or replying to <strong>the</strong> existing one. Please<br />

Luciana Coman provided updates from <strong>the</strong> Capacity <strong>BC</strong>:<br />
ITP Forum being planned and launched on Okanagan on September 24<br />
Capacity <strong>BC</strong> Position Draft Papers, Gabi, Lana and Berta will provide feedback to<br />
move forward as a collective voice <strong>of</strong> <strong>Internationally</strong> Trained Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals in <strong>BC</strong>.
11:00 – 12:00 Process to Becoming an Independent Society – Berta Lopera<br />
1. Proposed name for <strong>the</strong> society: “ Okanagan ITP ”. All <strong>the</strong> members who attended <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>meeting</strong> approved <strong>the</strong> name.<br />
2. Berta will send us <strong>the</strong> mission <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> society and <strong>the</strong> bylaw in draft to be reviewed and<br />
approved by <strong>the</strong> members.<br />
3. A society must be formed by at least 5 persons. We need to define five directors.<br />
Participants <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>meeting</strong> decided to invite members who are interested to be part <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Board to send us <strong>the</strong>ir request along with a short description in maximum 200<br />
words.<br />
4. Fee for becoming a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> society: The group proposed a fee <strong>of</strong> 25 CAN/year<br />
for becoming a member <strong>of</strong> “ Okanagan ITP ”<br />
5. Before registering as a society, Annette will consult with <strong>the</strong> Management Team<br />
regarding <strong>the</strong> transition, funding for registration etc.<br />
12:00 – 1:30 Goal setting for becoming a society<br />
• Consult members – survey, Ann Lu will pursue conversation – phone (calls less formal)<br />
to find out what’s working/what’s not and how we can keep new members involved<br />
with <strong>the</strong> group.<br />
• Gabi, Lana and Berta will provide feedback for Capacity <strong>BC</strong> Position Draft Papers<br />
• Luciana and Berta will coordinate and send out an e-mail inviting ITP’s to express <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
desire to be part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> “Okanagan ITP” Board. Members will be asked to send along<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir description in maximum 200 words.<br />
• Annette will consult Management Team to find out process for <strong>the</strong> transition from<br />
becoming a project within <strong><strong>BC</strong>ITP</strong> <strong>Net</strong> to an independent society<br />
1:30 – 2:30 Wrap up, <strong>Net</strong>working, Refreshments<br />
The next <strong>meeting</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong><strong>BC</strong>ITP</strong> <strong>Net</strong> Okanagan Region is confirmed for:<br />
