We Come Before God in Worship

Welcome and Announcements

Prelude

“As the Deer Pants For Water”

M. Nystrom/arr. M. Hayes

“As the deer pants for water, so my soul pants for you.” Psalm 42:1

* Call to Worship

Leader: How Lovely is your dwelling place,

O Lord of hosts!

People: My soul longs, yes, faints

for the courts of the Lord;

my heart and flesh sing for joy

to the living God.

(Psalm 84:1-2)

* Hymn “Come, Christians, Join to Sing” No. 131

* Prayer of Confession

Holy God,

we confess that we are a distracted people

and forgetful of your love.

We make selfish choices,

hurt each other, and perpetuate injustice in your world.

We have sinned against you and are deeply sorry

and repent of our disregard of you, each other, and your

creation.

By the power of your Spirit,

forgive, restore, and strengthen us

to live in your light and walk in your truth;

through Christ our Lord. Amen.

* Assurance of Pardon

* Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever

shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

God Gives to Us Through His Word

Scripture Lesson: Psalm 85:1-13

Leader: Lord, you were favorable to your land;

you restored the fortunes of Jacob.

People: You forgave the iniquity of your people;

you covered all their sin.

L: You withdrew all your wrath;

you turned from your hot anger.

P: Restore us again, O God of our salvation,

and put away your indignation toward us!

L: Will you be angry with us forever?

Will you prolong your anger to all generations?

P: Will you not revive us again,

that your people may rejoice in you?

Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,

and grant us your salvation.

L: Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,

for he will speak peace to his people,

to his saints;

but let them not turn back to folly.

P: Surely his salvation is near to those who

fear him,

that glory may dwell in our land.

L: Steadfast love and faithfulness meet;

righteousness and peace kiss each other.

P: Faithfulness springs up from the ground,

and righteousness looks down from the

sky.

L: Yes, the Lord will give what is good,

and our land will yield its increase.

P: Righteousness will go before him

and make his footsteps a way.

We Respond to God’s Word

* Hymn “Just As I Am, Without One Plea” No. 272

* Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of

heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son

our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born

of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was

crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell;

the third day He rose again from the dead; He

ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of

God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come

to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy

Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of

saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the

body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy

Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth

as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from

evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the

glory, for ever. Amen.
