Email<br />
• Email is one of the main ways that people at Oxford<br />
communicate with one another.<br />
• Students are expected to have read, and act upon,<br />
communications from the college staff and other<br />
senior members. All students are responsible for<br />
keeping themselves informed by:<br />
• Checking their pigeonhole daily;<br />
• Checking their college e‐mail accounts daily;<br />
• Looking out for notices on the <strong>Somerville</strong> web‐site,<br />
www.some.ox.ac.uk and any posted in the Lodge and Front<br />

Getting Connected<br />
• What we need to get you online:<br />
• Internet Access Form completed from you, please be<br />
aware that it will take a day or two to process new forms<br />
in 0 th week<br />
• You must have a valid University Card<br />
• <strong>College</strong> Username and Password, you must have<br />
changed your password before it will work from your<br />
room<br />
• You must have Anti‐Virus Software and keep your<br />
computer updated at all times

• Why do I have more than one password?<br />
• OUCS are responsible for your Herald/Web mail email account<br />
which is also your Single Sign On account (SSO)<br />
• <strong>Somerville</strong> <strong>College</strong> are responsible for your local access inside the<br />
<strong>College</strong> and therefore give you an account to access our servers, and<br />
also an account to access your MyBackup Service<br />

Network usage<br />
• Peer‐to‐peer file sharing (e.g. Kazza, Limewire) is<br />
forbidden and may result in disconnection or a<br />
fine<br />
• 4OD, BBC iPlayer, Sky Anytime are all forbidden<br />
on the network<br />
• Skype is OK as long as you set it up as specified on<br />

What can go wrong?<br />
• Computer virus? ‐ protect your computer, software &<br />
regular updates available from the <strong>College</strong><br />
• Keep machines up to date!<br />

• No space for new email? ‐ delete unwanted messages ‐<br />
watch for big attachments<br />
