Position Concept:<br />
The <strong>Director</strong> to the <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> Communications provides highly responsible and complex administrative and executive<br />
level support to the Sheriff and Chief <strong>of</strong> Staff. The member performs a variety <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional level duties involved in<br />
the coordination <strong>of</strong> the administrative and managerial activities <strong>of</strong> the Sheriff and Chief <strong>of</strong> Staff. The member acts as an<br />
administrative and operational liaison with agency departments and all organizational components <strong>of</strong> the Sheriff’s <strong>Office</strong>.<br />
Position requires exercise <strong>of</strong> discretion, independent judgment and independent thought<br />
The most important and essential job function <strong>of</strong> the position is attitude which includes the following: interacting<br />
positively and cooperating with co-workers, responding politely to customers, working as a team member, functioning<br />
under intense time pressure and responding in a positive manner to supervision.<br />
The <strong>Director</strong> to the <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> Communications may perform other related duties and tasks, as required and shall have the<br />
physical, mental and emotional abilities to perform the essential job duties <strong>of</strong> the position.<br />

Act as Spokesperson for the Sheriff<br />
Supervise <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> Communications<br />
Represent the Sheriff or Chief <strong>of</strong> Staff<br />
Participate in various Public Groups<br />
Assist Short and Long-term Planning<br />
Participate on Committees<br />
Assist with Agency Goals/Objectives<br />
Education, Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Certification or License:<br />
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university<br />
Valid Florida driver’s license<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Experience:<br />
Five years pr<strong>of</strong>essional experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or public service<br />
Prefer one (1) year law enforcement experience<br />
Prefer experience in research, position paper preparation, speech writing, and executive level pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
interaction<br />
