German winter shows
Four big shows have already been held
this winter. We would like to give you a
short report on them.
RBB
First was last year’s show of RBB. Jelbas, an
early Jefferson (MS: Eminenz), was represented
by a group of medium-sized daughters
with correctly sloped rumps and quality,
high udders. A group of dairy cows with
good front end, strength and excellent
rumps as well as high and wide rear udders
was shown from Suarez (Shottle x
Jocko Besne x Storm) who already got a
daughter proven breeding value in August.
The clear winner of all progeny groups,
The Malvoy-daughters at the RUW show in Hamm presented
themselves as well-developed and with strong bodies.
Suadar, was in this group. This great young
cow probably owes some of her elegance
and dairyness to her dam’s sire, Laudan.
The audience was curious about the progeny
group of Guarini (Goldwin x O-Man x
Jester) who is already marketed as a genomically
tested bull. The extremely uniform
group of dark young cows with outstanding
udders was very appealing. This
might be a confirmation of his very good
genomic breeding value. Moreover, the
crowd was able to see a calf group of Borsati
in the barn for the progeny. The five
young cattle of currently the best German
Bolton-son at No.5 in the German genomic
top list, attracted lots of interest.
RSA
A Christmassy atmosphere in the festively
decorated cattle hall and a big audience
were the background for the anniversary
show of the RSA.
Like in the barns, the progeny of the second
crop sire Cecon impressed with lots of elegance
and outstanding udder quality in the
ring. The next class included the progeny
group of the best German Goldwin-son,
German Holsteins news
and top-class conformation sire, Van
Gogh. The outstanding Van Gogh-daughter
Valerie showed herself to be the true
queen of the show ring and left nothing to
be desired. Unfortunately, the exceptionalsire
Van Gogh has recently passed away
and there is very little semen stock left.
RUW
Right at the start of the New Year, the HighlightSALE
of RUW took place.
A very attractive group of 7 daughters of
Malvoy was shown. These very well-developed
animals were strong in the body and
equipped with an open rib. The mostly correctly
sloped rumps were exactly of the desired
width. The good feet &
legs were particularly impressive
with their parallel set.
The firmly and widely attached
udders were a highlight with
the rear udders being especially
eye-catching. They show
good texture and are carried
by a strong suspensory ligament.
Teats are placed perfectly
and are of clearly above average
length.
Omatido (Oman x Aaron x
Aero Wade) was
represented by
five very good
heifers from the
test period. As the animals
were quite far in their lactation,
they showed slight variations
for body substance and
udder size. The animals show
lots of capacity and especially
excel with depth and strength
in the front end and, additionally,
they have a nice, open
rib structure. The slightly sloped
rumps were optimal regarding
their width. The parallel set feet & legs impressed
and enabled good locomotion. The
udders showed good texture and they were
firmly attached both in the fore and in the
rear. The suspensory ligament as well as
the very good teat placement leave nothing
to be desired.
Daughters of Folleto were shown as a very
uniform group. The daughters of this Fordson,
who is strong for conformation, have
sufficient strength with lots of length in the
body and enough capacity. Rumps can be
described as “optimal“ and they convince
with their width and position. The Folletodaughters
move perfectly on their parallel
set feet & legs and the firmly attached ud-
ers are also a highlight.
WEU
At this year’s Konvent in Oldenburg, 8 juvenile
looking second crop daughters from
our protein specialist Stylist were shown.
The heifers, which are of average dairy
type, show enough frame with good body
proportions. The good position of the
rumps needs to be mentioned. As for feet &
legs, which were impressive for set and angle,
these young cows were able to move
correctly on their excellent feet. The group
reflected the good udder transmission of
the sire. The well-attached udders were
carried by a strong suspensory ligament
and showed good teat placement. The udder
floor is clearly above the hocks with average
rear udder height. In total, 6 daughters
from the test period of the outcross bull
Truman, who is strong for type, were presented
in the show ring. The elegant cows,
in their 3 rd lactation, were framy and
equipped with lots of body which is very
reminiscent of the dam’s sire Lee, regarding
their strength. The rumps, which vary in position,
were impressive for their good
width. The Truman-daughters moved very
well on their high quality feet & legs. The
3 rd lactation daughters of Truman shown in Oldenburg
udders which are sometimes somewhat
shorter in the fore, are firmly attached and
carried by a strong suspensory ligament so
although teat placement can sometimes
vary, teat length is very correct.
The interesting newcomer Sorento was represented
by 6 daughters from the test period
which were strong in body. The heifers
are of average dairy type and showed
good strength and enough frame. They
moved on good, parallel set and strong
feet&legs with good feet. The group had
great udders, attached medium-high in the
rear with good suspensory ligaments which
reflect the high will to milk of the Sorentodaughters.
