AUGUST 2009
Commodore’s Log
RICHARD (RICK) EYTEL
The Fourth of July Picnic was a
success from the River Race, junior activities,
food, to enjoying the pool. Alison
Boland and Lisa Bonevento put together a
festive afternoon. Tom Glowacki bought
the food, started preparing the food at
8:00 am, and left before most of you arrived
after he was sure everything was
going well. Tom has been doing this silently,
without recognition, for probably
close to 15 years. When you see him,
thank him. If you don’t know who he is,
he’s the big guy, probably in the galley,
giving orders and yelling at his crew
(usually Rick Haupt), but with a smile on
his face. He really enjoys cooking for the
Club, and has fun doing it.
Powder Puff was also a big success.
The sailing, enthusiastic look on
sailor’s faces, and the fun they had at
awards makes the effort worth it every
year. If the weather for the picnic was
one of the ten best days of the year, this
was one of the top three days. Did you
order that Karen? I always found it amazing
that 250+ boats can be launched and
then get to the right place at the right
time. This regatta takes a monumental
effort. Thank you to all for your valuable
time. I know for a fact that Karen Haupt
devoted months and countless hours to
this regatta, and it shows. Over 80 volunteers
moved like a well-oiled machine,
with the help of Mary Ellen Butryn and
Jennifer Alldian. Vivian Dooren, the
founder and still a major volunteer,
should take great pride in the growth of
this regatta. The Race Committee was
fantastic headed by the general PRO, Bob
Reago, the other PROs were Chris
Petracco, John Cutting, and Mimi Dimon.
Jack Heacock put the race results together.
Lastly, thanks to our sponsors and
those who donated raffle
gifts: Mary Holder,
the Whitman family,
the Kardek family, and
30 other members who
donated. . The pink racing marks were a
great touch, and were donated by Vineyard
Vines.
One of the most rewarding
things I see is the level of volunteering
that goes on here. I am especially impressed
with the willingness of the new
members to jump in and put in their
time. Volunteering makes the Metedeconk
River Yacht Club your club, and
you are not just a member of a club.
Speaking of volunteers, Anne
Ruggiero has gotten the Junior Sailing
and Swimming programs off to a fantastic
start. We have record numbers,
which require major organizational
skills, to get them all where they are
supposed to be, and on time. We have a
great group of instructors and coaches.
Odette Kardek and her committee have
put together a fun packed, and competitive
swimming program. A good job by
all. Our Junior Program is the best on
the bay.
Congratulations to Dave Alldian
and the crew of Cymothoe* for
finishing third at Block Island Race
Week. This was actually a great finish
considering they were in position to
compete for 1 st place, when they were
tossed from a race in the protest room
and received a DSQ. To come back
from such a blow in mid race week is a
testament to the competitive nature of
MRYC sailors. Dave and the crew feel
the protest was erroneous, and there was
no foul. Cymothoe will also be representing
my fleet in the Club Championship.
Don’t foul anybody Dave. In fact
don’t even look at anybody funny. .
This month I will leave my
crew alone. I beat them up too much the
last few months, so I will pick on someone
else. So who is left? My wife of
course! Anne-Marie has been editing my
articles every month, as I have gotten into
trouble in the past for being politically
incorrect. She exclaims, “You Can’t Say
That,” and draws a red line through it. I
think my last article will contain everything
she edited out, and not let her see it.
Kind of like the outtakes from movies.
So everything is fair game. It will be
open season.
One of the funnier things that
happened recently was to my daughter,
Caitlin. As many of you know she lives
and works in Key West. It is tough to
rationalize her being in Key West. On
one hand we miss her, and on the other
hand we envy her, and are jealous. Back
to the story. She got into a fender bender
of an accident and met 6 guys from Charlotte,
NC. They were not part of the accident,
but came out of the house to watch
the tall blond girl go Jersey on the other
driver. She calms down, and they invite
her out for a drink later in the evening.
Caitlin and a friend join up with them at
one of the many watering holes in Key
West later the same night. Through polite
conversation she finds out their occupations,
and one of them said he was a
driver. I’m sure she thought he either
drives people to the airport, or drives a
truck. A few hours go by (she hasn’t
bought a drink yet by the way) and she
notices one of them keeps on signing
autographs for strangers during the evening.
So she asks what’s up, and is told
that the guy she thought was a truck
driver was Dale Earnhardt Jr, the famous
NASCAR driver. The joke of the evening
was of my daughter’s horrendous highspeed
accident (less than $100 damage).
After telling me the story, I gave my permission
to marry him, and since then I
have been following the career of my
potential future son-in-law. Maybe I’ll
give him some racing tips.
Vice Commodore Report
As of this writing the summer is
in full swing and we just finished up the
Fourth of July weekend. My special
thanks go out to the tireless volunteers
that make our Club run so smoothly.
Sometimes I wonder how an event will
get pulled off and before you know it a
team of volunteers swoop in, there’s a
flurry of activity, and bingo- there it is! It
looks easy but it’s not and we all appreciate
the hard work and time spent doing it.
My special thanks go out the Junior Social
Committee headed by Lisa
Bonavento and Alison Boland for not
only the Fourth of July picnic but all the
other junior socials. The kids are having a
JODY LUTZ
wonderful time. Also behind the scenes
and not really thought about too much is
Tom Glowacki. Year to year Tom volunteers
to purchase food for all the junior
social events and his expertise and
stocking the refrigerator does not go
unnoticed. Thanks Tom.
Our sail and swim teams are off
to a great start with special thanks going
to Anne Ruggiero and Odette Kardek for
their dedication to both programs.
Please mark on your calendars the Junior
Awards night on Friday, August 21 st . It’s
a great night to come out and celebrate
all the hard work the kids put in during
the season. Immediately after the ceremony,
we have an “after party” at the
pool including food, drink, and the premiere
of the “Summer of 2009” Junior
highlight video. It will be a fantastic
night to end the club’s Junior sailing and
swimming season.
Our blockbuster summer social
is fast approaching and if you have never
been to a Lobster Bash, I can only suggest
you get your reservations in fast. Since
we have a lot of new members this year,
I’m expecting a big turnout for “first timers”.
There are still some Friday Night
Dinner dates left. If you would like to
volunteer, please contact Teri Gelenitis.
The club continues to be available to club
members for private rentals. If you are
interested in a date this Fall, contact
Colette Commisso.
Commodore’s Log
(Continued from page 1)
Our membership is full, and we
are now working on the waiting list for
next year. Please bring prospective members
to the Club. Have them as your
guest at a social, Friday Night Dinner, at a
Junior sailing event, a swim meet, or one
of our sailing evenings. It is a lot easier
to see our club in action, rather than trying
to explain it to someone in the middle
of the winter.
See you at LOBSTER BASH.
This is an event you should not miss. For
all of you new members, it embodies the
essence of the party attitude of this Club.
Come hungry and thirsty. This social
event was brought out of retirement as a
favor for me. The Bionic Man, Rick
Haupt, should be well enough to be back
at the helm for this event. Two new hips,
a new rod in his back, a stent in an artery
and ………..He’s back.
Galley Report – Fran Lynn – Chairperson
– Running smooth. Please observe no
children in the galley.
Pool Report – Pete Zanowic – Chairperson
- Hours are 11 am – 8 pm June 20
– September 7, 2009. The club purchased
new furniture and it was delivered (five
club chairs and five chaise lounge chairs).
A team of volunteers Ed, Pat Maritz, Rich
Robinson and Brenda Feniello assisted
with the club’s older swim lane lines –
yellow poly line was installed and knots
were added to the line so the floats stay in
place. The inside of the pool house has
been painted. The pool committee is trying
to keep the pool neat. Please make
sure that you take home everything that
you bring each day. I washed, dried and
folded two loads of “lost and found” laundry
July 7, 2009 at home. The “lost and
found” laundry was brought back to the
club July 8, 2009 and given to Odette
Kardek. Check with Odette if you are
missing towels or clothing.
Observe the recycling garbage
July has been great for sailing. Hopefully
August will be the same. Our second
auxiliary series has started and has
been well attended. The racing has been
exciting and close. I would like to thank
all those who have participated thus far.
As I spend more and more time at the
Club,it becomes more apparent how busy
our Club really is. There isn’t one night
that something is not happening. If you
Please be courteous to our membership
and pick up all garbage and place it in
the proper receptacle. No glass in the
pool area and do not throw the stones.
Hoist – Jim Carson – Chairperson -
The club has the motor from davit # 1 at
Lakewood Electric for repair. A team of
volunteers (Chris Hall, Brian Schmidt,
Keith Taboada, Ryan Stagaard, and Jim
Carson) assisted with taking the motor
down and replacing it with a back up
motor dated 1973. The 1973 motor is
noisy but serves the purpose.
Parking - Two new Handicapped Parking
signs/spaces were added next to the
new Opti Racks. Please observe children
on property, drive slowly and park in
designated parking spots.
Bar Closet – Brian Schmidt recommended
having the stereo accessible
from the bar area. He and Adam (coworker)
spent a day building a box shelf
for the stereo/DVD equipment inside the
closet that you can access from behind
FROM THE TOP OF THE MAST
A NOTE FROM THE FLEET CAPTAIN :
RICK POKORNY
haven’t stopped by, you should. It is a
great place to spend time with friends
and maybe even make new ones.
My job this year includes many
things. Slips (wet and dry) club boat
maintenance, patrols, etc. We have sail
boat racing on Tuesday nights, Wednesday
nights, Thursday nights and Sunday
afternoons. Most of these nights need
patrol. I am asking all new members to
the Penquin sail boat painting near the
Raven picture. The bar closet is now
functional with added shelves.
Telephones – The Club has switched
from Verizon to Comcast for our telephone,
fax, internet and HD TV. Phones -
You may dial out 911 only, but the
phones do accept incoming calls.
Elevator – the elevator is for handicapped
members. Please do not play with
the elevator.
Flag Pole – Thanks to Sandy Holick,
Claudia and Caroline Jacobs for volunteering
to weed the Club’s flower bed
around the flag pole.
Crab Traps -Please do not set crab traps
at the dock. Power boats and sail boats
can become tangled in the line.
Al Bogdziewicz is working with
Mark Haupt and Kevin Bogert to keep our
club pristine.
Any suggestions or comments
regarding the clubs property should be
emailed to cjanbaier@msn.com.
been provided a list of all those who said
that they are interested in volunteering for
this. You can give a call or sign up on the
patrol board at the Club.
I would like to thank all of those people
who have already volunteered their
them. If you are at the Club, give them
some thanks. It will go a long way…..
Manasquan River YC Challenge Cup –
Dedicated by the Commodore of the Manasquan
River Yacht Club to foster offshore
PHRF racing and to promote camaraderie
between the Manasquan and Metedeconk
River Yacht Clubs, the Challenge
Cup was awarded to the Metedeconk
team at the inaugural event in 2008.
The 2009 race was sailed in a dying easterly
in lumpy seas on Sunday June 28.
Despite the best efforts of the defending
Metedeconk team of Rick Eytel’s Big
Grin, Gary Puco’s Phoenix and Fritz
Baier’s Ali-Cat, the Manasquan team redeemed
itself after last year’s loss by winning
the 12-mile marathon in 2009. Scuttlebutt
has it that the Metedeconk team
promptly shrugged off the loss and proceeded
to win Manasquan’s post-race
party.
Fourth of July River Race – Ten boats,
including one Sneakbox, a 420 and an
auxiliary, made it to the starting line for
the first running of the Fourth of July
River Race on Sunday July 5. Originally
sailed by the Sanderling fleet and subsequently
the Sandpipers, the 2009 River
Race was opened to all classes and scored
under the Portsmouth Yardstick. Conditions
were challenging on the river as the
fleet struggled to round the Club’s fixed
racing barrels on a very light westerly
breeze. Jason Lutz’ Lightning made the
best of the drifter winning the event ahead
of a second Lightning skippered by Dick
Thomas. Craig Dooren took home the
third-place trophy and the award for the
best finish in the Sanderlings as did Adrienne
Ferrie in the Sandpipers.
Block Island Race Week – The 23rd
running of the Storm Trysail Club’s
Block Island Race Week took place June
21 – 26. A persistent low-pressure system
parked over New England the entire
week brought foul weather but did nothing
to dampen the spirit of the 1,500+
participants. 153 IRC, PHRF and offshore
one-design boats competed in seventeen
classes, making it one of the largest
big boat regattas in North America.
Dave Alldian’s Cymothoe was the only
Metedeconk boat to make this year’s
trek to Block Island Sound. Accompanied
by crewmembers David, Jr., Jim
Aridas, Ron LaNeve, Eric Lehnes, Steve
Lopez, John Schwind and Corey
Wingerter, Dave sailed his Sabre 36 to a
third place finish in PHRF Division III.
Winning two of seven races and scoring
a second in the wild Around the Island
Race which saw multiple collisions, dismasting
and withdrawals, the Metedeconk
team had to swallow a DSQ in the
fifth race. The award for the best overall
performance of the regatta was given to
the winner of the J/105 class, Power
Play, co skippered by Bruce Stone and
Scott DeWeese of San Francisco.
PHRF – The 2009 PHRF Championship
Series wrapped up on July 7 with the
scheduled nine races completed. After a
soggy start in May and early June, the
sun and warm breezes returned for the
last weeks of racing. In the largest fleet,
C Division, Bill Bogardus overcame a
DNF midway through the series and won
three of the last four races to take the
overall win ahead of Gary Puco in second
and Mark Connell in third. In B
Division, Dave Alldian and crew scored
no less than a second place in the eight
races in which they competed to win
their fleet championship. Jack Wood’s
boat finished second overall just one
point of Rick Eytel’s crew in the Big
Grin. Jarrett Lynn’s J/24 won all six
races in which the boat competed to take
first overall in A Division. Brothers
Dave and Alan Ruiter came in second
and third respectively. Only two boats
a fleet of eight boats by winning two of
three races and taking the overall win in
the Sandpiper class at the 2009 Tune Up
Regatta hosted by MRYC on June 20.
Second place was up for grabs with an
unusual three-way tie. Mimi Dimon won
the tiebreaker for second ahead of Jim
Gelenitis in third. Dan Harding, sailing
for Bay Head, had to settle for fourth
place. Charlie Barclay squeaked out a
win in the Sanderling class only one point
Catboat Fleet News
This article is written with a
heavy heart due to the passing of Greg
Arner, Club Architect, Sanderling sailor,
golfer, good friend, and all around wonderful
person. He will be sorely missed.
Our best wishes go to Emi and the rest of
the Arner family.
As far as sailing goes, the Thursday
evening championship series is attracting
record numbers of boats. Eighteen
(18) Sandpipers have registered and
are racing as well as 9 Sanderlings. With
4 races sailed to date Paul Gelenitis has a
commanding lead in the Sandpiper fleet
followed by Dan Hurley(MA24), Dave
Alldian, and Janet Urbanowicz in 2 nd ,
3 rd and 4 th , respectively. In the Sanderlings,
John Cutting has a slim lead over
Craig McLean and Len Dooren. However,
with at least 4 races left, both series
are still wide open.
Sunday sailing still suffers from
the motorboat traffic in the afternoon
and only 2 Sanderlings and 5 Sandpipers
are presently registered. In the Sanderlings,
Glen Zimmermann won the only
2 races held to date and in the Sandpipers,
Mimi Dimon has a slim lead over
Jim Gelenitis.
Our Sandpipers continue to do
very well in BBYRA competition. At
present, with two racing days completed,
Paul and Terri Gelenitis are tied for 2 nd
and Mimi Dimon is a close 8 th . Fifteen
boats have been racing. In the Sanderlings,
high winds forced abandonment of
one race and limited our participation in
another. Bob Reago and Alan Papp are
representing us. The largest catboat of
all, Raven, won the last BBYRA race at
Mantoloking and is near the top of the
fleet.
Not much else to report except
that some of our members have been
sneaking over to Forge Pond in an effort
to get ready for the Biathlon on August
21 st . Time to get those teams together and
let Len Dooren know if you plan to participate.
The traditional chipping contest
starts on the front lawn at 9:00 A.M.
Other events to note are the beginning
of the Sanderling/Sandpiper Mini
Series on August 13, the Skipper Mate
race on September 3, and the Night Race
on September 11. Check the club book for
times.
LIGHTNING FLEET NEWS
Page 7
Congratulations to Vice Commodore
Jody Lutz for repeating as District
Champion in a wild regatta sailed in the
ocean off Ocean City in mid-July. This
was the first Central Atlantic District
Championship to be open to all Lightning
Class sailors. Four out-of-District crews
helped swell the ranks to 33 boats, far
larger than any recent Districts Neighboring
District boats actually copped three of
the four top spots dropping Jody to third
overall. District runner-up was our Keith
Taboada (5 th overall). Ocean City has
little choice of sailing venue with nearby
waters crowded with pleasure craft and
the traditional back bay site inadequate in
size to support a regatta of this nature.
While the tow to and from the waters off
Margate is long and rough (big tidal flow
against ocean swells) once there the
venue provides super sailing conditions.
Saturday’s races were sailed in a building
southerly that topped off with gusts well
into the 20 knot range. Our George Francis
and Ocean City’s John Parker decided
to sail upside down precipitating a bizarre
“rescue” by the US Coast Guard
complete with helicopter and swimmers.
If you want details, ask George. Complete
results are on the ILCA website
www.lightningclass.org.
Other July regattas were the
States at Barnegat Light and the Atlantic
Coast Championship at Toms River. The
latter is prep for the 2010 North Americans
scheduled to be sailed on the Cedar
Creek course next August. See the Lightning
Class website for results.
Coming up this month are the
Junior North Americans, qualifier for the
Youth Worlds in Salinas Ecuador in
2010 and the Womens and Masters
North Americans and the North American
Championship. All these events will
be sailed on Lake Ontario off Sodus Bay
about 30 miles east of Rochester NY and
all can be followed on the ILCA website
starting August 5.
As previously noted, Metedeconk
will be represented by Vice Commodor
Jody Lutz in the Lightning World
Championship at Mallets Bay, Vermont
in early September. Sixty plus boats are
expected. Former MRYC member Billy
Bogardus also qualified.
Locally, four Fleet Lightnings
have a shot at winning the BBYRA
Championship with races scheduled each
Saturday starting August 15 at Normandy
Beach. Results so far are too sketchy to be
meaningful. See the BBYRA website
www.bbyra.org for results.
The Junior Championship, sailed
in Lightnings, swill take place at 3:00 pm
on August 16. Conditions permitting sailing
will take place in front of the Club.
Should be fun to watch.
We all wish Fleet Member Jay
Lutz a speedy recovery and return to sailing!
Women’s Wet Wednesdays this season,
it’s not too late to join us!!! July has provided
us with some great wind and
weather. We’ve seen a lot of new sailors
join the fun as we spend the evening racing
and improving skills.
The WWW Powder Puff Championships
begin Wednesday August 5.
Additional races will be held on August
12 and 19 (August 26 is make-up night in
case of bad weather/free sailing.) The
plan is to race two races on August 5 and
12 with one race on August 19. Boats
need to be rigged and registered by 6:00
pm and there will be a brief skipper’s
meeting. Awards will be presented at
the club awards ceremony in the fall.
All of the sailing is followed by
delicious meals and lots of laughs. Even
if you can’t make all of the race nights,
AUXILIARY FLEET NEWS
This year the Auxiliary is hosting
the Labor Day Picnic. It is a great
finale to our summer season. Everyone’s
help makes it a success. Our Down Bay
Race is scheduled for Sept. 19. We had a
record number of participants last year
and hope to top that number in September.
The raft up after the race is one of
the highlights. Be part of this Great
MRYC Tradition.
I will be posting a sign-up sheet
on the bulletin board of the clubhouse and
at the pool, for the Labor Day picnic.
Please let me know if you have a particular
interest. We hope to have record
participation for these three events.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is
willing to safety inspect your boat. They
could do as many boats as we wanted on
a specific date, and time. There is no
cost, very little anxiety, and at best informative.
Please let me know if you have
any interest. Rick Eytel has had his boat
inspected and said it was a worthwhile
experience.
Derivation: Pipe Down. Naval ships orders
are given by notes piped on a whistle.
“Pipe down” is the last pipe of the
day. The term is also used to when you
want someone to stop talking.
at Block Island Race Week.
Dave Alldian and crew finished third in their division in the 153 boat fleet.

Mermate
News
The Mermates are having a great summer.
We kicked it off with our Father’s Day
Brunch which was a huge success. We served
over 180 and do not believe anyone went home
hungry. Many thanks to all who helped, especially
our shopper, Karen Banias, prep cooks,
Colleen Van Pell, Chris Hudson, Caroline Skierski,
Lisa Brennan and Ann Doonan, and Sunday
cooks, Lisa & Don Brennan and Chris and
Eric Hudson. Fran Lynn gets an extra special
thanks for helping all three days. Many others
contributed their time to make this a very special
event, thank you so much.
As I am writing this many club members
are tuning up their acts for “Metedeconk’s
Got Talent”. Patty Mroczko has put in endless
hours on this and I’m sure it will be the most
entertaining night of the summer. Who will
win the coveted “Conk” award? I will report
the details next month.
The Mermates are also planning the
annual luncheon to be held August 10 at the
Club. This will be a fashion show and gift auc-
Smoke Signals
tion with a fabulous lunch
by those great cooks Fran
Lynn and Lisa Brennan.
Terri Cerrito has been
working with Tangerine
Boutique of Bay Head to
show us the latest fashions.
Reservations are a must, so
please contact Ann Doonan
for your reservation. Gift baskets will be
collected by Elaine Salto. This is a major
fund raiser for the Mermates, so we hope
to see you all there.
As I write this column, I thank so
many who contribute their time to the Mermates,
but there are many more who give
an hour here or there. Some collect money
at the door of functions, or help out at the
Ships Store, etc. Everyone who helps is
greatly appreciated by the Mermate Officers.
It is also interesting to note that
many who help us are also involved in
other areas of the club, such as Juniors or
Race Committee. This is a volunteer club
and by helping out you will find so much
value in your membership, not to mention
making great new friends. If you would
like to become more involved in the Mermates,
remind your kids to pick up after themselves,
we would appreciate it. Also, all
gear should always be kept on the North
side of the club (water side).
Thanks and happy sailing!!
26 TH AUAL JR. POWDER PUFF A PERFECT 10!
PIK IS’T JUST
A COLOR…
IT’S A ATTITUDE!
This was the theme for the
26 th Annual Junior Powder Puff
Regatta and the sailors proved just
that! We had a perfect day – a 10+
with just enough sun, wind, and 250
enthusiastic sailors! We saw plenty
of pink that day and nothing but
great attitudes to go along with it!!
250 young ladies sailed out of
our Club after being treated to a scrumptious
breakfast, coming back in for a great
lunch and goodies afterwards. Who could
ask for more? They did and they got just
that….they received terrific race committee
work, enough patrols to keep them
safe and lots of encouragement. Of
course, the annual Goodie Bags donated
by Mary Holder/Mary Zanowic with all
the “stuff” is always a highlight. This
year we were fortunate enough to add the
new Barrel Bags donated by the Whitman
Family to go along with the Powder Puff
Bag. It wouldn’t be the Powder Puff
without the traditional bears and this year
was no exception. Karen Haupt made
sure each participant received a white
bear in a PINK outfit and the winners also
received the traditional bears as well.
Chairperson Karen Haupt pulled
off another successful regatta with her
attention to awards, raffles, and the daunting
task of registration – we turned away
30 sailors— safety first. I’m sure these
girls won’t wait ‘till the last minute next
year – so Metedeconk sailors – be sure to
get your registration in EARLY. Hats off
to Mary Ellen Butryn and the galley crew
who worked hard all day getting the sailors,
instructors, parents and all the patrols
and race committee fed and hydrated all
day long. Jennifer Alldian, Jack Heacock
also had a major roll in the success along
with the Regatta Committee and many
race committee volunteers.
To the 80+ volunteers – THANK
YOU. We couldn’t do this regatta without
your assistance. To our Head PRO –
Bob Reago, Opti PRO – Chris Petracco,
Opti Green PRO – Mimi Dimon and 420,
Sunfish and Laser PRO – John Cutting,
Tom Sollas - Judge – congratulations
again on providing our young ladies with a
great day of sailing. Getting in four races
and allowing a throw out is a wonderful
way to show our Racing Management
Skills to the rest of the bay. We will try
again to win the coveted BBYRA Race
Management Award.
To all those to assisted in any
way, directing traffic, launching boats, to
the Sandpiper Fleet for moving all their
boats to give us room in the dry slip area,
to those who donated to the raffle tables
and most especially to Commodore & First
Lady Eytel for donating the first ever Commodore’s
prize – an iPod Touch, the
Kardeks for donating the fantastic Sail of
Choice and to the Committee for once
again providing the PINK Bike. These top
prizes along with 40 others made for a terrific
afternoon.
Our sailors had team shirts made
up and it brought tears to my eyes when I
looked out and saw just how many other
yacht clubs had their girls in team shirts
with the words Jr. Powder Puff on them.
Winning the Best MCYC Sailor
Award was Abby Kardek for coming in 4 th
out of 54 boats.

Volume 29 Issue 7
POWDER PUFF
Gillian Francis won the Marion Freeth
Sportsmanship Award. Congratulations to
both of these young ladies for a job well
done. Many of our girls did well and all
the results can be found on our website
along with the BBYRA website.
This day has for years now far
surpassed anything I could have dreamed
of 26 years ago. So remember….
PIK IS’T JUST
A COLOR……
IT’S A ATTITUDE!
Thank you all for making this
day so successful–
