Conditions were fantastic on this
gorgeous sunny winter’s morning
for an away game for the Resicon
Rangers U10 boys against top of
the ladder opponents Hawthorn
Citizens B.
The opposition pulled away quick at
the start with two goals in no time
at all. We started off strong with
Hayden breaking from the pack
with a good kick, a mark and another
awesome kick to score our first
goal. Angus (not Mr Rodwell!) executed
brilliant marks and long kicks
and was described by coach Wheatley
as a ‘steam train’ with 100% improvement!
Josh was quick on the
boot and kicked long. Kadyn, one
of our smallest players, was declared
10% tougher as he showed
us what hard work was about and
scored himself a blood nose.
Zac, Nathan and Seb got in under
the pack, outmaneuvered their opponents,
and most often escaped
unscathed, ball in hand and moved
it on with great marks and kicks.
Dante did really well staying ‘on
his man’, Sam was tackle mad, had
great hands and plenty of kicks,
and Big Bad BJ was doing all that he
could which paid off with a goal in
the third quarter. Cam was applying
plenty of fantastic pressure with
2nd, 3rd and 4th efforts resulting in
a goal in the second quarter, and
Mitchell took off with a few bouncing
runs demonstrating much courage.
Coach Wheatley reiterated to the
boys at half time a few pointers,
‘everyone’s better than their player,
use your voices, be quick bounce
and go, salute our goals, shepherd,
tackle hard and kick lots’. The pep
talk helped and confidence was
visibly restored in the boys. By the
third quarter break, our tired boys
were greatly in need of snakes to
revive them.
Luke gave great chase and managed
a few good kicks in the last
half, Jake got some good grabs and
was key in moving the ball from the
centre, Smithy demonstrated a nice
kick in the first quarter and a great
mark in the last quarter. Mark was
taken down in a vigorous tackle
but managed a great kick later in
the game. Sharpe moved to open
ground and marked the ball aplenty,
while Oliver put in a great effort
and got plenty of touches and Al
knew no bounds and had a go anywhere
approach resulting in touches
and a great mark.
Unfortunately, the opposition had a
lot of tall players and demonstrated
a great marking ability in this match.
Our boys gave it a good crack, and
busted their guts all throughout the
game but unfortunately it was not
meant to be. So, we live to fight another
day!
