Sentinel Career Center Hosts October After Five!
The After Five at Sentinel Career & Technology Center on
October 21 was both an enjoyable and informative evening.
Tours provided guests with the chance to
see first-hand the various projects that
Sentinel students are currently working
on, from collision repairs and making
fences to rebuilding a house, as well
as the various skill competitions.
On display were some of the students’
finished projects such as belt
buckles, built-to-scale models of a
backhoe and the bus used to take them to worksites
(pictured above right) .
The food service classes prepared some delicious appetizers
for the event. A group of students helped with the event,
four from the food service section served the appetizers and
five student Ambassadors from several sections led the
tours.
Volunteers from the food service section and their
supervisor are pictured above. From left to right
are: Barbara Crawford (Food Service PM from Columbian),
Macy Franklin (Food Service AM from
Upper Sandusky), Tara Lentz (Food Service PM
from Columbian), Tyler Maenle (Food Service PM
from Mohawk) and Mrs. Ruth Reinhart.
In 2010, Sentinel was named a National School of Character
by Character Education Partnership. It is the first career center
in America to receive such an honor, and is one of only
13 schools and two school districts in the country to receive
the designation.
Sentinel has integrated character education into the culture
of the school, based on the six pillars of "Character Counts":
Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring,
and Citizenship.
During the After Five, a student Ambassador was asked by a
guest if these values were difficult to take back to their
home school. The student replied, “Not really” and said that
she does pass it on to classmates at her home school.
The five Ambassadors are pictured above from
left to right are: Jayson Schube (Careers in Education
AM from Mohawk), Chance Brickner
(Collision Repair Technology senior from Hopewell
-Loudon), Paige Webb (Collision Repair Technology
junior from Old Fort), Amanda Fleming
(Cosmetology senior from Mohawk), and Katie
