Volume 2, Issue 3 April 1, 2013
Dear Friends,
"The Lord is Risen! He is risen indeed!!!
Every Easter I tend to think back on the Easters of my childhood. This year has been no
different except that I am thinking back on the Easters of my children's childhood more than
usual. Interestingly, their Easters were very similar to mine and my husband's, even though
some 30 years apart. As you well can guess we had two beautiful little girls (who are still
beautiful I might add!) and they always were dressed in ruffles and lace - especially at Easter.
There were the requisite hats, white gloves, white patent leather shoes and pastel colored dresses.
And, of course, there were Easter baskets, Easter egg hunts, enormous family meals and
thousands of cousins. Oh yes, it was fun!!
Ebenezer & Tripolis Evangelical Lutheran Churches are congregations of the Southwestern Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church of America. We believe and profess that we are God’s people, saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ who
lived, died, and rose again for us. We have been sent into the world to share God’s love with others by means of our words and
deeds. We invite you to join us as we come together regularly to celebrate this good news and then go forth to proclaim it to the
world.
And even though there were a lot of family traditions the true meaning of Easter was
never lost on them. At our home church, we always had a Children's Easter program. Just like
at Christmas the Sunday School prepared songs and memorized "pieces" to present to the
congregation on Easter Sunday. It was wonderful and so dear to see all the children dressed in
their new Easter clothes celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. There is nothing that brings more
joy than happy children celebrating the love of Jesus! And how I pray the church could always
bring them that joy, that celebration, and that place of security and love that they know on an
Easter morning. But, of course, we know that resurrection joy is built on Good Friday sorrow.
Jesus, in his infinite wisdom, knew we could not experience the true joy of life everlasting
without understanding that there is a Good Friday. Jesus, in his infinite wisdom, knew that we
humans would need "balance" in our lives in order for there to be an "abundant" life. There will
always be joy - sorrow - confusion - hope - laughter - pain and love. Always. That is the nature
of life itself. And we, as Christians, know we are not alone in these experiences. Our sorrow is
comforted and our joy is made greater by the relationship we have with God in Christ Jesus. At
the heart of the Gospel, is the message of great love and great sacrifice and that love and
sacrifice is all for us. How incredible.
For the next several weeks, we will be celebrating the Easter "Season". This is a time of
great rejoicing in the church but, most importantly, it is the central season of the church year.
Through the grace and mercy of God, Jesus overcame death and the grave so that we might have
life in his name and know the glory of eternal life. When we believe Jesus' promises we
understand there is more than just this earthly life and we are freed up to love wastefully and
serve God and others in all joy and peace.
So, let this be our theme this Easter: to love wastefully and serve joyfully.
God bless you as we travel through Easter together. Happy Spring!
Shalom, Pr. Cindi

Due to bad weather on our original date, we have rescheduled the Project Service Day for Saturday, April 6,
beginning at 9:00 am. Jeanette Jacobson will be leading us in making items for the craft sale at the Green Lake
Lutheran Ministries Quilt Auction which will be held on July 27. We will have a potluck noon lunch so bring a dish to
share. If you can only make part of the day, that is just fine, come when you can or stay as long as you can. Sounds
like lots of fun.
“BOLD Women Moving Forward” is the theme for the Lakeland Conference Spring Gathering of WELCA on Saturday,
April 13, at the United Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. Our guest speaker will be Pastor Joyce Graues from St.
Johns Lutheran Church in Raymond. Registration is $8.00 which includes a noon lunch. Coffee will be at 8:30 am with
the gathering beginning at 9:00. We will continue our celebration of our 25 th anniversary of Women of the ELCA.
Hope to see many of you there.
The 26 th annual convention of the SW MN Synodical Women of the ELCA will be held Friday and Saturday, June 21-
22, at the Redwood Area Community Center in Redwood Falls. The theme is “Legacy of Faith: Roots to Wings”. The
convention is open to ALL WOMEN, not just delegates. More information will come in the next newsletter.
Our next WELCA meeting will be on Tuesday, April 23, at 10:00 a.m. Quilting will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue
All members of Tripolis & Ebenezer along with friends & families are invited to attend a family camp
weekend at Camp House July 11-14. Camp House is located about 20 miles north of Two Harbors in a
beautiful wooded setting on George Lake. We will head up north by bus on Thursday, arriving in time for
supper & return home on Sunday after brunch. The days will be spent relaxing in adirondack chairs over
looking the lake, fishing, pontoon rides, hiking, games & more. Evenings will find us toasting marshmallows
while singing around the campfire or eating popcorn in front of the fireplace in the lodge. This will be an
opportunity to unplug from everyday life & reconnect with each other & our God in His awe inspiring
creation minus TVs, cell phone reception & all the distractions of life. For those of you who have expressed
concern about the accommodations - yes, there are flush toilets! Of course, you may choose to use the one
remaining outhouse if you'd like. If not, you may choose one of the cabins which share the bath house
equipped with showers & sinks as well as flush toilets or you may choose to stay in the cabin where 5 sleeping
rooms share 2 bathrooms (showers, sinks & flush toilets) in the same building. There is also a handicap
accessible bathroom with shower. The scenery is rustic but we do have necessary amenities. The cost for the
weekend which includes all meals is $126.50 for adults, $63.25 for youth K-12, preschoolers are
