E B E N E Z E R Council Meeting Minutes Ebenezer Lutheran Church March 12th, 2013 Members Present: Larry Redepenning, Betsy Hallberg, Allison Peterson, Tom Wodash, Jon Lindstrand, Lisa Hoffer, Nancy Bruggers, Orin Stene Members Absent: Daryl Deisting, Dawn Fries Meeting called to order by President Betsy Hallberg A. Secretary’s Minutes: Motion made, seconded & carried to approve as printed. B. Treasurer’s Report: Motion made, seconded & carried to approve as printed. C. Old Business: 1. None D. New Business: 1. The Vision meeting was discussed. The importance of what it means to do missions & the reasons we do missions was discussed. At the meeting it was decided to look into having activities at Ebenezer after the Kandi is Dandy day’s parade. It will both fill a time void in the day’s activities & will be an invitation to our church for those who are not familiar with it. They are looking into several different options of activities. 2. A motion was made, seconded & approved to give a $100.00 donation to the Kandiyo- Hilighter. 3. A motion was made, seconded & approved to give a $250.00 donation to the Atwater Ambulance Department. The money they raised in 2012 went to supply the defibrillators in the community (including Ebenezer & Tripolis). This year they are working to raise money to purchase a Stryker Power Load Assist system for their ambulance. E. Committee Reports: CR2: Worship Support (Betsy, Larry, Pastor) Communion Assistant & Council person on duty for April is Daryl Deisting CR3: Children/Youth Ministries (Lisa, Dawn) 1. Emails are starting to go out regarding VBS 2. The youth will be entering with palm branches on Palm Sunday 3. Palm Sunday breakfast CR4: Outreach and Service Ministries (Tom, Allison, Nancy) 1. The Baskets of Promise collection began on Sunday, February17,2013 & continue through Lent. 2. March is Food Shelf month. Along with collecting food, an email will be sent out along with the Pastor announcing that cash donations will be taken. CR5: Property (Jon, Orin, Daryl) 1. Water was cleaned up in the basement on 3/9/2013. 2. Jon will get a meeting together with Craig Aurand & members of Ebenezer to receive training on our heating/cooling system. EBENEZER Dear Ebenezer Members, THANK YOU Thank you for your recent contribution of $250. Your donation is an investment in the Safe Avenues' mission of providing safety, support and empowerment for victims of abuse and families in turmoil. Connie Schmoll Safe Avenues' Executive Director THANK YOU Thank you to everyone for your help in making the Baskets of Promise appeal a huge success!! Our goal was to be able to send at least 20 completed kits & at last count we are up to over 30 complete kits. Outreach & Social Ministries Committee THANK YOU A big THANK YOU to Jimmie Duhoux, Dan Hallberg and Doran Hallberg for making the wooden cross which stands outside of Ebenezer Church. The cross is a reminder of Christ's sacrifice for us on Good Friday and His rising on Easter morning. Tied with pastel-colored ribbons, it will help share the joy of the resurrection of Jesus with our community. The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed! CHOIR Ebenezer Choir welcomes singers! Join us in practice Sunday mornings at 8:45am, as we gather 'round the piano in the Fellowship Hall. Music themes are Easter & Pentecost. If you have a favorite song, we would be interested in giving it a try. MISSION SUNDAY COFFEE "Mission Sunday" Coffee Hour will be served following worship on Sunday, April 7. The freewill offering will be donated to support Pastor Edwin Flomo from Liberia in his continuing education at Luther Seminary. All are welcome to help the Ebenezer Women support this Mission Project. Thank you to Marilyn Zarnott, Jennifer Wattnem, & Marvis Hallberg for serving in April. (If you would like to help serve coffee for this Mission Project, there is a Sign-Up Sheet in the Narthex or contact Marilyn Zarnott or Karen Deisting) THANK YOU Thank you to all who donated food or helped serve & clean up at the Palm Sunday breakfast. There were many compliments on the food! The free will offering collected will go to the Youth Camp Fund. 70+ DINNER The 70 Plus Dinner will be held May 5th, 2013 (this is a change from the year book). Look for your invitation in the mail. CAN YOU FLIP PANCAKES? The Ebenezer Churchmen will be hosting a pancake fundraiser on Sunday, April 21 from 10:30am— 1:00pm. Help is needed to make this fundraiser a success. If you are interested in serving in this way, please talk to Matt Wattnem or Tom Peterson for more information. DO-BE DOERS The Do-Be Doers invite you to a day of fun, fellowship & yummy shared food, as we continue creating quilts and working on special projects - some of your own choosing.
