Annual Gift Catalog
Your prayers and gifts to the poor
have come up as a memorial
offering before God.
Acts 10:4 (NIV)
2011-2012

GIVE A GIFT
that Makes a Difference
Rick Jett, Executive Director
What would be the better gift for someone you love – another present that
gathers dust on a shelf? Or a donation that makes an eternal difference
for someone whom Christ died to save? Instead of giving more things,
give more meaning by making a contribution in someone’s honor to the
life-giving work of International Disaster Emergency Service. Our unusual,
yet practical gifts are symbolic of the work IDES supports around the world.
From Bibles to blankets, medical kits to mosquito nets, chickens to calves,
you are bound to find something for everyone!
Every gift helps bring genuine and lasting change to those who need it most. All the gifts are examples
of how IDES works in partnership with Christian Church/Church of Christ missionaries to confront poverty
and injustice around them. Because IDES channels funds only through Christian Church/Church of Christ
workers, the saving message of Jesus Christ will accompany whatever gift you buy. It is always our prayer
that every gift given will produce good will in order to have opportunities to share the Good News.
These gifts are ideal for any celebration – Christmas, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, or any other
important occasion.
You might decide to donate a sewing machine in honor of your mother, who loves to sew. Your mother
can receive a gift card from you describing the generous contribution you’ve made in her honor. Thanks
to your gift, a woman in India or Haiti will start down the road of self-reliance. The income she earns from
her sewing will provide food and clothing for her children. Her tithe to the local church will support the
spread of the Gospel in her village and soon her neighbors or relatives come to salvation in Jesus Christ.
When you give a gift to someone you love, do you want it to
be deposited on a table in the next rummage sale? Or do
you want your gift to change a life for now and eternity? We
pray you will shop generously from the IDES’ Gift Catalog!
Disaster
Disaster is our middle name.
IDES responds around the world and right here at home, providing
for victims of fires, floods, hurricanes, tornados and civil unrest. We
use the funds entrusted to us to offer help and hope for the hurting
through our missionaries and Christian workers abroad.
“We continue to coordinate sending teams from the Osaka area and
leading the volunteers who are joining the work in Tohoku. A few of our
new friends and neighbors are beginning to join our times of worship. God
is doing amazing things and we have never seen the openness in Japan
that we are seeing these days. Daily we are meeting with people (some
days hundreds), serving them, praying with them. ‘Please teach me about
God,’ was a request I had recently that brought great joy to my heart! So
many
Hunger
good things. ” Chad & Jennifer Huddleston, Japan.
Hunger is a regular consequence of world poverty, but is made even
worse by drought. The eastern Horn of Africa is suffering the effects of
the worst drought in 60 years. One missionary writes, “The persistent
drought in the area has caused many families to go without food
for days. ALM’s team visited…and found emaciated women, men
and children. Some of them could not even walk. During the visit,
ALM donated food, water, oil and medicine to needy families. We
appreciate the kind gesture from our partners in ministry, especially
IDES who have continued to support the need in northern Kenya.”
G.A.P. God Always ProvIDES
In the last two years IDES volunteers have packed well over 350,000
meals through our G.A.P. Program. Each meal costs only 25¢, which
includes shipping to Haiti. The casserole mixture provides a hungry
child with a nutritionally balanced meal.
To schedule a G.A.P. Packing Event, contact Randy Jones at
rjones@ides.org or call the IDES office at 765-947-5100.
Development
Development projects are one really exciting part of IDES’ work - helping
people to help themselves. Just look at the list - these are all aimed at
giving folks a hand up, not a handout.
Medical
Medical care is costly in America, but non-existent in many countries, at
least for the poor. IDES provides mosquito nets to help prevent malaria,
a chief killer worldwide. Medical Clinics help meet the needs of the
sick. Doctors volunteer their time, but they need medicines to treat
their patients. Many evangelists receive a medical kit and training to
become traveling caregivers for the more basic ailments they encounter.
GIFTS
M1 – Lip/Palate Surgery $300
M2 – Malaria Treatments $4
M3 – HIV Medications $25
M4 – Course of Antibiotics $8
M5 – Medical Kit $50
M6 – Medicine for Clinic for 1 Mo. $400
M7 – Mosquito Nets $15
“Thank you, IDES, for the medicines. Providing medical
care builds bridges, very strong bridges, for sharing the
gospel!”
- Evangelist from Myanmar
Evangelism
A Bible becomes a prized possession in many poor countries. Preachers
in many countries walk for hours to take the Gospel to people in
remote areas. A bicycle or motorbike can greatly multiply their efforts
as God’s traveling evangelists. A soccer ball or basketball can also
be a tool for evangelism. Just like here in the US, children can come
together to play, have fellowship, and learn about Jesus.
ESTATE Planning
Making a bequest to IDES as part of your estate plan is as
easy as directing your attorney or advisor to add the following
sentence to your will or trust agreement:
I give and bequeath___________ (here you specify a dollar
amount, a percentage of your estate, or a description of the
specific property) to International Disaster Emergency Service,
Inc. of Kempton, IN.
It is always best to inform your potential heirs of your plans,
and to periodically review your estate documents to ensure
everything is up to date and complete. If you have included a
gift to IDES in your estate planning, please let us know.
Talk with your family. Talk with your advisor. Then talk with us.
Don’t have an estate plan? Our partners at Financial
Planning Ministry can create a plan tailored to your specific
needs. You will not be charged for their services. You will not
be presented with an offer for any other products or services.
You will simply be asked to include a gift to IDES (or other
FPM ministry partner) in your estate plan. Call us for more
information at (765)-947-5100 or send an email to:
