1. Introduction
Breakthrough your walls and extend to the outdoors with WiNG 5 and the AP 7161, delivering ruggedized
outdoor performance and the ability to defend your perimeters from intrusion. AP7161 brings together the
latest in 802.11n 3x3 MiMO tri-radio design coupled with 24x7 Intrusion protection MESH Patrol; big things
can come in small packages.
AP 7161 has been optimized within the Motorola WiNG 5 platform to provide leading capacity, performance
and design and is ideal for enterprise campus, industrial environments, public safety enabling applications
such as video survallience, and smartgrid utility deployments.
Extending the indoor network to the outdoors increases the need to guard against unwanted intruders and
attackers, and monitor the performance and availability of mesh networks. In addition to industry standard
security for clients and radio backhaul, the AP 7161 provides comprehensive security using either a
dedicated dual-band sensor or inline sensing in 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Concurrent around-the-clock dualband
Network Assurance sensing and wireless traffic is provided together with spectrum analysis —
eliminating the need for separate devices. The integrated Wireless IPS sensor option on AP 7161 enables
the configuration of one radio for 24x7 rogue detection and termination, and two others can simultaneously
be dedicated to wireless client access and/or meshing. As a result, enterprises can now deploy the most
robust Wireless IPS solution while saving money — the cost to purchase, deploy and manage dedicated
sensor hardware is eliminated.

7. Software Support and Entitlement Process
As of January 1, 2010, customers will not be entitled to receive telephone or e-mail technical support for
hardware or software issue diagnosis if their products are not covered under warranty or covered by an
Enterprise Mobility Services agreement.
Customers are required to have a valid Motorola Enterprise Mobility Services agreement in place to receive
software support, which includes technical telephone and e-mail support and the ability to download and use
software releases. Customers will need to provide product information when initiating their support requests,
including the serial number of the product configuration(s) for which they require software.
Requests to download software releases are completed by submitting the “Request Download” form on
Support Central or by calling the Motorola Enterprise Mobility support center. The information will be routed
directly to a dedicated team that will quickly validate customer entitlement. Customers will then receive an e-
mail containing instructions on how to download the appropriate software.
Customers who wish to purchase an Enterprise Mobility Services agreement can do so through the normal
channels that they currently use to purchase Motorola products and services.

ship with an installation manual and one weatherproof ethernet gland. No mounting is provided. These are
ordered separately as required by the customer.
Q: What are the mounting options for AP 7161?
A: The AP 7161 has two mounting kit options
KT-147407-01 allows for various configurations from wall mount to pole mounting. The kit comprises of three
modular pieces that enable the mounting kit to be flexible to different installation needs. The installation
manual that ships with the units will provide examples on the configurations and how to use the mounting kit.
KT-150173-01 provides a 12' standoff bracket for pole mounting.
Both the mounting kit and the extension standoff pole are optional accessories, and do not ship with the AP
7161 unit.
Q: What antennas are required for AP 7161 models

Q: What software does AP 7161 ship with?
A: AP 7161 is a WiNG 5 based outdoor access point. AP 7161 is tested and verified to this software track
and not 4.x and 3.x software versions
Q: How is an AP 7161 powered ?
A: AP 7161 is powered via POE only - The pricing list offers and external 802.3AT compliant power supply.
802.3AT complaint switches can also be used.
