DOLPHINS Bingo players, get

April is going to be a massive month 

for bingo fans. We have a birthday 

party and three super sessions this 

month alone, so we hope you are 

feeling lucky. 

To start off with, on April 1, 

Dolphins Bingo is celebrating its 

seventh birthday. To really get into the 

birthday party spirit, there will be a 

cake and lucky door prizes at each of 

the sessions on this day. 

It will be plenty of fun and a perfect 

way to celebrate the milestone. 

Then when the birthday party is over 

we move on to celebrating Easter with 

two amazing super sessions. 

On Easter Saturday, April 4, there 

will be a session with eyes down at 

1.30pm and there are so many chances 

to win big. 

This session will have three $1000 

unlimited jackpots, plus a $1500 treble. 

However, this will be the only session 

on this day, as the regular 7.30pm 

session on this Saturday night will be 

cancelled. 

Not to worry though, because there 

will be so much happening in the 

1.30pm session that you will need a 

rest anyway. 

Then to follow this up there will be 

another super session on the Easter 

Monday, April 6. It is really important 

to keep this in mind as there is not 

usually a Monday session.

But on our community gaming 

floor, Easter doesn’t end after the 

long weekend. 

In fact, it continues all month 

long with our Easter Egg Hunt

Every Saturday in April, 

between 2pm and 5pm, nine

minutes starting at 2.20pm.

Dolphins staying positive 

THE 2015 rugby league 

season is well upon 

us with the Dolphins 

battling hard in all 

grades. 

I did not travel to Papua 

New Guinea for our round 

two clash with the Hunters, 

however I’m told we had a 

real dig and went close. 

I know it is a daunting task 

to come away with victory up 

there and we fell just short. 

It may not be the start we 

were after to the season with 

an influx of new players and 

only one trial, but everyone is 

staying positive and counting 

on our combination coming 

together. 

Fans should remember that 

due to poor weather we had 

only one pre-season trial and 

we have a tremendous number 

of new players to meld into a 

team. 

We also have been unlucky 

with a high injury toll with a 

total of 19 players either 

unavailable, injured or 

suspended for our opening 

round match against Tweed 

Heads. Of those, 11 of them 

were first graders, including 

Joey Bond and Aaron 

Whitchurch. 

However I’m sure we will 

improve dramatically as the 

season wears on. As a club we 

will stay positive and start to 

move up the ladder. 

The two lower grades have 

both enjoyed unbeaten starts 

to the 2015 season and we 

appear to have good players 

across the park. The opening 

Intrust Super Cup rounds will 

test how strong our depth 

actually is. As this column 

goes to press, our A graders 

have made it to the pre-season 

grand final against the 

Diehards after three straight 

victories. 

WHILE on football, our 

members would be happy to 

hear of our affiliation with 

the Sandgate Gaters. 

This long-established 

club plays in the revamped 

Brisbane Rugby League 

with the Dolphins 

contributing up to four 

players who are not required 

for our first grade on a 

weekend. 

We as a club are more 

than happy to be associated 

with the Gaters, who are 

run by a great bunch of 

people. 

They play out of Albany 

Creek at the moment and 

over the past 35 years the 

Dolphins have enjoyed 

strong ties with the club 

across the Bay. 

The affiliation is a natural 

fit as we have gained quite a 

few first graders from the 

Sandgate area and we would 

be over the moon if our club 

could provide a pathway for 

a Gater to make it into the 

Intrust Super Cup.

week to monitor our players 

with them and give them 

feedback on their

players from our 1965 

premiership squad. 

The response was great and 

we are getting in touch with 

that trio for the weekend of 

August 22-23 when we will 

honour those players and their 

partners at a dinner and 

attendance at a match.

dropped in for morning tea 

at the Redcliffe Leagues 

Club last month. 

Our local MP Luke 

Howarth organised the meet 

in which Mr Abbott was 

most interested when shown 

plans for our stadium. 

He is now clear on what 

we require to make our 

dream come to fruition, 

although naturally could 

not commit any funds at 

present. 

Luke was largely 

instrumental in our securing 

the funds for the upgrade of 

lighting on Dolphin Oval 

and we thank him sincerely 

for that. He now is trying 

very hard to make the 

stadium a reality for 

Redcliffe, which would be a 

boost to business of the 

Peninsula, creating many 

benefits for the local area.

bounced back strongly after a 

few slow months. 

In what is a very 

competitive industry, our 

management and staff have 

worked hard to entice bingo 

players to the best complex on 

Brisbane’s northside. 

We have enjoyed increased 

numbers over the past month 

and I’m assured we have a 

super month ahead for 

jackpots.

organised a reunion on 

Friday, May 29 for all 

players from different era at

To help make a difference 

Alexander has donned the 

lycra and joined the Rio Tinto 

Conquer Cancer Ride. 

The ride runs over two days 

in August this year and covers 

just over 200km with each 

entrant having to raise $2500 

or more before the event. 

Following is a story 

extracted from our Facebook 

page a few months ago: 

“With advertising in our 

local paper at Dayboro and 

the circulation of the Dolphins 

News, I think I have plenty of 

time for sufficient donations 

to come in,” Alexander said.

1982. After the 1982 season, 

playing 20 games in the lower 

grades and at just 27, 

Alexander decided to retire. 

“One major regret for me 

now is that by quitting footy 

at that age, I didn’t give 

myself a chance to play first 

grade for Redcliffe,” 

Alexander said. 

Dolphins Group CEO Tony 

Murphy is 100% behind the 

former Dolphins player’s 

effort. 

“It’s a fantastic cause and 

with our club losing so many 

great men through this 

horrible disease, it’s worth 

supporting,” Mr Murphy said. 

Following his football days 

Alexander was never idle 

competing in a number of 

triathlons, including the 

inaugural Noosa triathlon, 

represented Queensland in 

rowing and achieved a black 

belt in tae kwon do. 

Before his ride in August, 

Alexander has competed in 

the Melbourne Ironman on 

March 22. 

“This cancer ride in August 

is something that the more I 

think about, the more 

committed I am to raising as 

much as I can to help combat 

the disease,” he said. 

“All of us, if we really 

thought about it, would know 

of quite a few people who 

have been affected by cancer.”

THE $10,000 jackpot in the members draw has 

finally gone off. 

Pamela Kent, of North 

Lakes, was the lucky member 

to collect the five-figure haul 

when she was present at the 

first draw on Wednesday, 

February 25. 

“I didn’t hear my name 

called as I was talking to a 

lady going on my way to 

Bunny’s for a meal,” she said. 

“A staff member came up 

to me and said I had two 

minutes to get to the stage to 

claim my prize. 

It was a very big surprise 

but I only became emotional 

when I realised I had won the 

$10,000. 

“The people there went 

berserk over someone 

winning the $10,000 and kept 

saying ‘good on you’.” 

A club member since 

coming to Queensland in 

2002 from Yorkshire in 

England, Pamela said she and 

her husband usually attended 

the club on a Wednesday for 

the draw, dinner with other 

couples in Bunny’s and then a 

play on the pokies. 

“It’s funny that three weeks 

after my win a lady stopped 

me in the club and said ‘you 

are the one who won the big 

draw’,” she said. “I find that 

amazing that she remembered 

that. 

“We have no plans in mind 

for the money yet. We have 

put it away and will think 

what we want to do with it.”

IT’S hard to think of a better 

birthday present. 

On Thursday, February 26, club 

member Betty Brilman, membership 

number 59630, was with a group of 

friends for the monthly Birthday Card 

Draw. 

Minutes later Betty was celebrating as 

she collected the major $5200 prize after 

her entry was the first one out. 

“It was such a big surprise,” she said. 

“I made a real fuss with a dance because 

I was so delighted. 

“I cannot thank the Leagues Club 

enough and I’m very grateful. It’s an 

incredible amount of money to win.” 

Betty came from Sydney 10 years ago 

and one of the first things her son did 

when she arrived was join her up with the 

club. 

A retirement village resident at Kippa- 

Ring, Betty said she usually visited the 

club twice a week. 

“I was going to the dancing two or

the draw,” she said. “They were all so 

delighted for me. 

“It is such an enormous gift and the 

fact that I can use the vouchers over a 

two-year period is an enormous bonus as 

I’m on my own. I gave my son one of the 

vouchers so he can enjoy the prize too.”

such a success that the club management 

will retain the exact format for this year.

Raising funds 

for homeless 

OFTEN it can be easy to forget just 

how fortunate we are to have all 

that we do. 

Every day, hundreds of young people in the 

Redcliffe area live in homeless circumstances. 

They have no safe place to sleep, no way of 

getting to school, nowhere to wash and very 

little to eat. They slide into the background and 

it can be easy not to notice their struggles. 

This is why the Redcliffe Leagues Club is 

proud to host this year’s Rockin’ 4 the 

Homeless fundraising event. This event is in its 

second year and is predicted to exceed the 

success it achieved last year. 

For those who haven’t heard about it before, 

Rockin’ 4 the Homeless is a 12-hour long event 

consisting of more than 30 musical acts 

who donate their time to raise 

money for this worthy cause. 

It will take place from 2pm 

until late on Saturday, May 9. 

There will be three stages set 

up throughout the club, with 

acts playing on all three for 

the duration of the event. 

The headline act is Mental 

as Anything and other acts 

will consist of up and coming 

high school bands and seasoned 

performers, all who are ready to rock 

out and raise some money. 

All acts that play downstairs are free to 

view, however if you want to see the acts 

performing upstairs there will be $20 entry. 

Mental as Anything and other popular acts 

will be performing across two stages upstairs. 

The talent and entertainment on display will 

be more than worth the entry fee, especially for 

lovers of this fantastic music. 

Also available on the day will be raffle 

tickets, with a range of prizes lined up suitable 

for every taste. 

All money raised from the event 

will be donated directly to 

charity, specifically The 

Breakfast Club and Chameleon 

House. 

Both of these fantastic 

charities work directly with 

the homeless and 

underprivileged youth in the 

Redcliffe area. They both have 

visions of using the proceeds of 

the event in a joint effort to directly 

benefit underprivileged youth in an 

attempt to help them find the right path. 

This is a fantastic cause and one that 

desperately needs our attention. So why not 

come along to the club on May 9 to enjoy some 

fantastic entertainment and support the youth 

of Redcliffe.

National Broadband Network Pilot for Fast Rollout 

The NBN Co will conduct a pilot 

construction in Redcliffe, where Pay 

TV – or hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) 

– networks are in place. 

This will see the existing HFC 

network extended to homes not yet 

connected to the network. 

Telstra and Optus began deploying 

HFC in the early 1990’s as a TV 

transmission system, and later 

as a broadband service delivery 

network. 

The service is used by more than 3 

million households nation-wide. 

This network has the potential to 

deliver download speeds of 100 

megabits per second and upload 

speeds of 40 megabits per second. 

But the previous Labor policy 

was to pay billions of dollars to 

decommission the HFC networks 

and overbuild them with fibre 

networks. 

The Coalition Government’s policy 

uses multiple technologies, to 

deliver the NBN faster and at the 

best price for taxpayers. 

Across Australia, the NBN’s fibre 

and fixed wireless networks now 

pass 836,000 premises, up from 

300,000 premises as of the 2013 

Federal election.

Dolphins kick 

off ’15 season 

ONLY days after the QRL launched the 2015 Intrust Super Cup 

season, the Village Motors Redcliffe Dolphins, along with their 

invited guests, officially launched their season at round one of the 

competition. 

Overlooking Dolphin Oval just hours 

before kick-off, Men of League’s Frank 

Barrett welcomed The Clubhouse 

sponsors, politicians, junior sponsors, 

season ticket holders, directors, life 

members and friends of the Dolphins as 

master of ceremonies. 

Taking time from their game day 

schedule, recently named team captain 

Luke Capewell and head coach Troy 

Lindsay both spoke with Barrett onstage 

to discuss their expectations of the season. 

Capewell spoke highly of the team’s 

pre-season preparations and gave guests 

some insight of new signings and where he 

sees them making their mark on the field. 

Troy ‘Cowboy’ Lindsay talked of the offfield 

changes since last September with 

the return to the club of key staff members 

and volunteers working in support roles 

for both him and the A grade and Colts 

teams. 

The Redcliffe Dolphins historically 

present new members of parliament with 

their own jersey and president Bob Jones 

took the opportunity to congratulate 

State Member for Redcliffe Yvette D’Ath 

on her recent success at the polls with her 

own Dolphins jersey on the day. 

Injured players undergoing rehab also 

joined guests at the launch. After lunch, Joe 

Bradley and Joe Bond joined MC Barrett 

on stage to discuss how their preparations 

have been going in the months leading up 

to the day. 

With the day heating up, guests were 

entertained by Will and Alison Briskey in 

the President’s Room or able to view the 

on-field action of round one from the Des 

Webb Deck. 

The FOGs Colts played a tough game 

to come out 32-24 winners over Tweed 

Heads Seagulls. Tweed Heads always 

present us with a challenge with their 

strong junior system and connections with 

the Titans. 

General manager Grant Cleal was 

pleased with efforts of new coaches 

Michael Roberts to the FOGS Colts and 

Danny Green for the new A grade 

competition, saying: “After being in 

assistant roles for some time now, both 

blokes have done well to come away with 

wins for their first round. 

“The board is pleased with new staff 

changes we’ve made in recent months and 

all games have given our staff the 

opportunity to get a proper look at their 

team make-up. 

“With the loss of our trial game in 

February, we have been a bit behind it with 

an opportunity to see our men in play – 

particularly with many new recruits. 

“It’s something that you can only do 

under playing circumstances. Overall 

round one has cemented a lot of our offseason 

prep for us.” 

It was fitting for the Dolphins to 

welcome new affiliate club Gaters to 

Dolphin Oval at the season launch. 

Running with a pre-season competition 

format, the Brisbane Rugby League A grade 

competition has enabled the South East 

Qld Division of the QRL to reformat the 

reserve grade that in recent years has 

seen a slow decline in participating clubs. 

The new-look competition has enabled 

the Dolphins to extend their senior 

affiliate partnerships with North Lakes 

Kangaroos to encompass the Gaters 

based at Albany Creek. 

It was an excellent first outing for the 

team, which will regularly feature Dolphins 

players not selected for Intrust Super Cup 

or the Redcliffe Juniors A grade teams, 

although Redcliffe took away a strong 

40-12 win.

Brian Eyre has owned McCormack’s 

Meats for the past nine years and is proud 

of the store’s reputation for serving up 

top-of-the-range produce from private 

farmers. 

McCormack’s Meats have been working 

with the Dolphins for the past 18 months, 

providing the Junior Dolphins with the 

meat trays for their Friday Night Raffles 

and supplying the monthly senior player 

barbecues as well as an array of Redcliffe 

Leagues Club’s Saturday Raffles prizes. 

Keen to expand on the current 

relationship McCormack’s Meats is now 

supplying the players’ player of the match 

awards. The Eyre family has a long history 

with the Dolphins with Brian and his 

brothers Craig, Darren, Jason and Brett all 

playing juniors for the club. 

Brother-in-law Eddie Fitzgerald is 

Dolphins first grader 437 and won lower 

grade premierships with the Dolphins 

in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Mr Eyre’s father 

Wayne was a popular member of the 

Leagues Club for more than 30 years as 

well a hardworking volunteer among the 

juniors and old boys clubs. 

Each of the award recipients receives a 

voucher for goods in-store. The locally 

produced beef and chicken products will

Cyclone blows up 

trial preparation 

CYCLONE Marcia has a lot to 

answer for. 

The battering that Dolphin Oval took from 

her in February meant the cancellation of our 

major trial against the Broncos. 

The club management pondered the 

decision about cancellation and at one stage 

had decided to go ahead with it. But more 

overnight rain meant the rain gauge was full 

and some of the major roads in and out of 

Redcliffe had been closed, particularly at tidal 

times, which would have made it difficult for 

even some of our own players to make it to 

the match. 

In the end the cancellation meant it was 

three weeks between our only trial and our 

opening fixture. We then travelled to Papua 

New Guinea for round two before having a 

weekend off with a bye. 

It is not the most ideal start to a season 

however I’m not making excuses and neither 

are the players. We just have to improve on 

the little things in our game and meld what 

are quite a few new players into our way of 

playing. 

In my years with the Dolphins I don’t think 

I have seen as big a side as this one. We just 

have to ensure they are fit enough and mobile 

enough to get the job done. 

The side is training well and the big units 

have all lost weight, which should make them 

even bigger attacking weapons.

ROUND 2 

I will reserve judgment on individuals until 

the grind of the season has started. A lot of 

players can look good in the opening rounds 

but their durability and toughness has to be 

tested over what is a long season. 

The usual suspects are lining up for the 

premiership with newcomers Townsville, 

Northern Pride and Mackay shaping up well 

as well as Ipswich, Wynnum and Easts from 

greater Brisbane. I don’t believe there will be 

too many soft fixtures this season.

LIAM Georgetown, one of the 

most valuable servants of the 

Dolphins in recent years, has retired. 

Liam had not made up his mind by 

the time of the annual presentation 

dinner but obviously thought his 

time was up on the Intrust Super 

Cup scene. 

After coming into first grade in 

2004, Liam served us admirably with 

his goal-kicking and scoring feats 

helping us to many a victory. 

Liam finished his career with 1211 

points, second overall in the 

competition, and still holds the 

individual scoring record for any 

player of 318 points in 2012. He also 

kicked a record 11 goals in that same 

season against Souths Logan.

I TOOK my time on deciding on the first 

grade captain for this season. 

Jon Green came into calculations but being 

a contracted Broncos player means that he is 

not with us all the time. Marty Hatfield is our 

club captain and was happy enough to sidestep 

the other major leadership role. That 

concentrated my thoughts on Luke Capewell, 

who is at the centre of play and has strong 

leadership capabilities.

INJURIES have not been kind to 

us even this early in the season. 

Ajuma Adams, a Broncos 

acquisition who had been showing 

strong form for us, broke his jaw in 

an apparent clash of heads in the 

PNG match. He will be out for up to 

eight weeks however Zac Strasser, 

who dislocated his shoulder in the 

Broncos trial against Wynnum, is 

out for the season after being 

operated on. 

Jon Green is on the way back from 

headaches with concussion in that 

same trial. Jon could have turned 

out against PNG but the long flight 

meant it was not worth taking a risk 

with this hard-working individual. 

Joey Bond has been out with 

hamstring/knee worries while we 

lost Kaine Matthews to an ACL last 

month and Jordan Mitchell 

dislocated his elbow at Kougari Oval. 

Luckily Brett Coutts is on his way 

back from off-season surgery and 

hooker Hayden Hansen is a couple 

of weeks away after off-season 

shoulder surgery and Taylor Brown 

is also back from a dislocated 

shoulder. Young prop Tyson Cleal, 

who was blooded in first grade last 

year, is still serving a suspension and 

overcoming a knee complaint.

To start with, you could get your heart 

pumping with a bit of exercise. This will not 

only wake you up, it will also refresh your 

mind and give you the focus to continue on as

This method is even good for your overall 

health, as a little bit of exercise every day can

puffed quinoa balls. It’s a bit of a tricky one to

It’s amazing how something so small can

Chocolate Peanut Butter Puffed Quinoa Balls 

Serves: 25 balls 

Time to prep: 15 minutes 

Time to cook: 10 minutes 

Ingredients 

• 50g ( 1 / 2 cup) rolled oats 

• 40g dark chocolate, chopped 

• 36g (1 1 / 2 cups) puffed quinoa (see note) 

• 65g (1 cup) shredded coconut 

• 1 tablespoon sesame seeds 

• 90g ( 1 / 3 cup) peanut butter 

• 115g ( 1 / 3 cup) honey 

Method 

• Preheat oven to 180C (160C fan forced). 

Place puffed quinoa in a single layer on a large 

baking tray. Roast for four minutes or until 

light golden and toasted. 

• Place oats and chocolate in a food processor 

and process until finely chopped. Transfer 

to a large mixing bowl. Add the puffed quinoa, 

coconut and sesame seeds. 

• Place peanut butter and honey in a small 

saucepan over a low heat. Warm gently, and 

stir until well combined, smooth and mixture 

just comes to the boil. Working quickly, add 

the honey mixture to the dry ingredients and 

mix until well combined. 

• Using slightly wet hands (to prevent sticking) 

squeeze tablespoonfuls of the mixture into 

balls. Cover and refrigerate until firm.

Meditation

to the mind 

WE all know how easy it is to become 

so busy that we have no time to 

relax. 

Our minds are constantly working at full 

speed to keep up with all our daily tasks. This 

can leave us feeling exhausted all the time. 

We may not consider this a huge issue. We 

get everything done in time and a little 

exhaustion is a small price to pay. 

What we don’t realise is that by not resting 

our minds properly, we make ourselves 

vulnerable to a whole range of health issues. 

You may even be experiencing them now 

without realising the real cause. 

There is a really easy way to provide some 

much-needed relief to your mind. All you need 

to do is meditate. There are two major benefits 

that meditating has. 

Firstly, it prevents stress from entering the 

system and, secondly, it releases accumulated 

stress that is already in the system. That doesn’t 

sound like much on its own, but it has a 

significant flow-on effect. 

Emotionally, meditating results in feeling 

more joy, peace, enthusiasm, calmness, clarity 

and positivity. It is able to decrease levels of 

anxiety and increase emotional stability. 

You can become happier and your problems 

become smaller as you look at issues from a 

different perspective. 

There are also physical benefits to 

meditating. If you meditate regularly, you 

could see physical changes such as lower blood 

pressure, lower levels of anxiety, decreases in 

tension-related pain, decreases in muscle and 

joint pain and improved mood and behaviour. 

All of this is possible because the physiology 

undergoes a change during meditation and 

every cell in the body is filled with more prana 

or energy. That’s a big change from such a 

short and easy method of relaxation. 

Meditation is all about sharpening and 

expanding the mind, making it easier to deal 

with everyday situations. Suddenly, all of the 

tasks that you used to find boring and 

exhausting are now much easier to handle. You 

will feel better and more balanced. 

Most importantly though, mediation makes 

you aware that your inner attitude determines 

your happiness. It’s your perspective that 

decides how you view every situation you are 

in. 

If you are relaxed and peaceful inside, you 

are more likely to have a happy disposition in 

general and we all love feeling happy. 

Meditation is a tricky art to master on your 

own, but it is incredibly important for our 

health.

“It was great playing games with 

the kids, seeing the smiles on their 

faces was very satisfying and well 

worth the trip,” Dolphins secondrower 

Anthony Cherrington said.

before joining the locals for a sausage

SO the footy season has started and we can all once again support our favourite 

teams either from the lounge at home or as part of the crowd. 

We can cheer and yell to our heart’s content 

as we get behind the teams we love. 

Footy is all about passion for the game. We 

know which teams we want to win and we 

support our side to the end. 

We thought, why not use that passion and 

winning instinct in a competition of our own. 

That is why we are once again running a footy 

tipping competition. 

This year it will be run exclusively through 

the Redcliffe Dolphins smartphone app, 

meaning you have your footy tips right at your 

finger tips all the time. 

If you haven’t already joined up, it isn’t too 

late. Entry into the competition is still available 

and you won’t even miss out on points for the 

opening rounds, as late entrants will still get all 

the away team results. 

Signing up is simple. All you need to do is 

follow the prompts under promotions on the 

Leagues Club page of the app. 

There are so many additional benefits to 

having this competition on the app. Not only 

does it provide incredibly easy access, it also 

means that there are many more options when 

you submit your tips. 

Starting with the fact that closing for each 

game’s tips is five minutes before the scheduled 

kick-off time of that game. 

That means if you miss the first game of the 

round, you don’t have to miss out on tips for 

the rest of the round. 

You simply continue with your tips as usual 

and you will just miss out on the one game. 

Additionally, there are many different 

competitions running on the app; namely the 

knockout competition. This involves you 

selecting a game where you are certain that the 

team you tipped will win. 

If you are correct, you progress to the next 

round. If you’re wrong, you’re out of the 

competition. 

The only other rule is that you can’t pick the 

same team two rounds in a row. The last person 

to remain in the competition wins. 

You can also choose a Joker round. Every 

entrant gets one Joker round in which they can 

double their points. If it is a perfect round, 

there are an additional 5 points to be scored. 

Last but not least is the pick the margin 

aspect of the competition. This will help to 

decide a winner if there happens to be a tie 

towards the end. 

There are some fantastic prizes available for 

the winners, so be sure to get involved. Backing 

your team has never looked so enticing.

THE Friday euchre play at Redcliffe 

Leagues Club will celebrate its 20th 

anniversary next month. 

It appears Friday euchre started at the 

club in 1993, run by Gail Maller, an 

employee. 

In 1995, David Ridgway was asked if he 

could run the Friday euchre and for the next 

16 years he and a host of helpers ran the 

game for the Leagues Club. 

Amy James, Kath Druery and David 

were regular players in 1995 and are still 

playing today. 

A better set of rules was introduced and 

Friday euchre became very popular. 

“Nowadays on a good day we get 36 

players, while in our early days we often 

attracted 50,” David said. 

“It is hoped that with a bit of advertising 

we can improve on our present numbers.” 

For the past four years Friday euchre has 

been run by Rhondda Graeme and her 

George Hartnett’s 

70 years of tradition. 

George Hartnett, a resident of Redcliffe, 

created a tradition of quality funeral care
