The project goal:
For a species-rich, trans-border forest complex of four conservation
areas in Vietnam and Laos (around 200,000 hectares) and priority
areas in Vietnam in two connected corridors, a sustainable
management regime will be developed and implemented.

MRV
• A robust Measurement, Reporting and
Verification (MRV) system is important to
ensure that estimates of the changes in the
carbon emissions as a result of the project are
real and credible.
• Combination of remote sensing and groundtruthing
• The project-based MRV system should be
compatible with national-level MRV systems

Trans-boundary issues
• CarBi designed as a trans-boundary project - to try and
test approaches to managing international “leakage”,
additional complexities to the project.
• A trans-boundary PDD will be challenging due to
legislative and technical issues.
• Approach to PDD development will be confirmed during
upcoming feasibility study, but may involve developing
“modular” PDDs
• Challenges with trans-boundary approach:
• Given drivers of deforestation in the region;
• May need to involve complex benefit sharing agreements
