At the 2006 <strong>FISITA</strong> Congress in Yokohama, special sessions concentrated<br />
for the first time on Vehicle Safety Communications. During the <strong>2008</strong><br />
<strong>FISITA</strong> Congress, progress on this important subject will be presented in<br />
a special session on the afternoon <strong>of</strong> Tuesday 16 September. <strong>The</strong> session<br />
will be jointly organised by PIARC <strong>and</strong> <strong>FISITA</strong> as part <strong>of</strong> a Memor<strong>and</strong>um <strong>of</strong><br />
Underst<strong>and</strong>ing between the two associations. It will focus on the need for<br />
more active co-operation between the world’s automotive engineers (represented<br />
by <strong>FISITA</strong>) <strong>and</strong> the public sector road / transportation infrastructure<br />
builders <strong>and</strong> operators (represented by PIARC) with support from the global<br />
Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) community.<br />
