Fruita Community Center Information

Resident Discount

While all individuals who shop locally in Fruita will equally pay the

1% sales tax that supports the Center, those who live inside Fruita City

Limits are also assessed a 1% use tax on vehicle purchases and building

materials for new home construction and remodels. In addition, Fruita

residents pay higher sales tax on their utility bills. The resident discount

is intended to offset the additional taxes that Fruita residents pay. Please

remember sales and use taxes are not assessed on gas, groceries, or

prescription medicine purchases.

Proof of Residency

Resident rates apply to those who reside within the City of Fruita. Proof

of residency includes one of the following: current lease agreement

or trash/sewer bill. Proof of residency must be shown with the

purchase of any pass. Resident discounts are only available on pass/

punch card purchases.

Family Passes

A family consists of a mother and/or father (legal guardian)

and their children under the age of 18 living in the same

household/residence. Adult siblings, nannies, grandparents,

grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and cousins do not fall under the

classification of a family. Up to four members are included in

the family fee.

Couple Passes

A couple consists of two adults or any combination of adult and child/

youth living in the same household/residence forming a family unit.

Due to a finance contract being formed in purchasing a couple pass,

two individuals living in different residences will not be considered

a couple.

Annual Pass Payment Options

Customers have the option of paying monthly through electronic

funds transfer/auto debit or in full. The Fruita Parks and Recreation

Department accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

Checks are also accepted.

RecRats Childcare

Childcare is available for $3.00 per hour per child, or 20hr/40hr punch

cards can be purchased for $1.00 per hour. Parents are required to stay

in the facility while their child is in childcare. Childcare is limited to 2

hours per day per child.

Fruita Community Center Age Policy

All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a guardian

(18 and older) at all times. Youth under 14 are not allowed upstairs in

the fitness area. Youth 14-16 must complete a fitness orientation prior

to using equipment. Youth 10-13 are allowed on the running track with

an adult 18 years or older.

Lockers/Locks

Lockers are available at no charge. Please bring your own lock with you

to use in our locker rooms. Locks will not be provided. A limited supply

of locks will be available for purchase at the front desk. Locks and

contents stored must be removed daily. Locks not removed on a daily

basis will be cut off. The Community Center will not replace cut locks.

Gymnasium Hours

The Fruita Community Center gymnasium is available for drop in

during regular business hours. Hours for volleyball, adult basketball,

and pickle ball drop in use are listed below. *Please note that all or part

of the gymnasium may be used for special events and other programs.

Fruita Community Center Meeting Room & Party Rentals

Meeting Rooms

The Fruita Community Center Meeting Room is 1860 square feet and is finished with wood flooring. The meeting room

can be partitioned into three separate rooms. Individual rooms, as well as the entire meeting room are available for

rental. The outside patio is included in each rental. (In the area of the room rented) Capacity for the Meeting Room

is 93 persons.

Pool Party Room and Outdoor Shelters

The Fruita Community Center Pool Party Room is located next to the Indoor Pool. The party room is available for

rental during normal aquatic hours. Rentals include 10 child/youth passes and 2 adult passes to the pool. Additional

participants pay the daily entry fee to the Fruita Community Center. The Pool Party Room is only available for 2 hour

rentals. Capacity for the Pool Party Room is 28 persons.

Outdoor shelters are available for rentals during regular seasonal aquatic hours. There are two south shelters and one

north shelter.

The gymnasium, as well as the indoor and outdoor pool, is available for rental.

Rentals for these areas must be after regular business hours and should be

coordinated with the Facility Manager. For additional information please

*The gymnasium is not available for team rentals during normal business hours.

Parks Rentals

Parks and park shelters are available for rental. There is no charge for

park shelter rentals. Utilities are available at some parks for $25.00.

Full park rentals or parties of significant numbers require a special

events permit.

Do you enjoy swimming laps…but not dodging the swimmers during

open swim? We have the answer. Join us for Lap Swim.

Fins and kickboards are available upon request.

DEEP WATER JOGGING

Splash in to your next workout! Water jogging has all of the benefits

of land, but without the pounding on your joints. Water gives you

balance and buoyancy that land can’t. Jump into the pool to get a

great low-impact workout. Jogging belts available upon request.

Whether you are a novice, or an expert swimmer, start lapping up

the miles in our Lap Dawg program. As you swim, count your laps.

Whether you swim two laps or 200 laps, write it down and let us

add them up. We reward you with certificates and prizes for periodic

milestones. Laps can be counted towards the 500 Mile Club. (See

Fitness Section).

ADULT SWIM

A 15 minute designated time for those 18 years and older to utilize

the hot tub, lap pool, lazy river, leisure pool, and features without

having to dodge the little ones. All patrons under the age of 18

must exit the water during this time.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

Are you interested in taking swim lessons, but the group times

don’t work well with your schedule? The FCC now offers private

swim lessons! Private lessons provide the flexibility of choosing the

number of lessons you would like, as well as one on one time with a

certified instructor. Application forms are available at the front desk,

or you may contact the Aquatics Supervisor for more information.

Participants must be at least 4 years old by the first lesson. Lessons

will be scheduled according to instructor and pool availability.

MASTERS SWIM PROGRAM

* All times are subject to change.

* Lap swimming is available most hours of operation but lanes are only guaranteed during scheduled lap swimming times.

* Children under 6 are not allowed in the Hot Tub. Children 7 - 13 must be accompanied by an adult in the Hot Tub.

Individuals under 16 must exit at capacity.

* Swim diapers are required for infants and children not toilet trained.

* Everyone must shower before entering the Pool or Hot Tub.

Come join the fun and get into shape! Masters Swim is a program designed for adults interested in developing or refining their swimming skills.

The FCC Masters Swim Program offers members the opportunity to train, improve their strokes and their health. This year round program, open to

all adult swimmers of all abilities, offers flexible practice days and times, stroke development, technique, conditioning and on deck coaching.

Aquatics

WATER AEROBICS

Fees for water aerobic classes are general admission + $1.00 per

class. You can also take advantage of the Unlimited Class Pass,

which is only $10/month. This pass is good for all drop-in water

aerobic and fitness classes. This pass does not include admission

to the facility.

POWER WAVES

Enjoy a high intensity, cross training workout? This non-impact

workout will take you to the depths of your fitness training! Focus

is on cardiovascular and strength training using various equipment

and movements. Basic deep water adjustment skills are necessary

for participation.

This high impact shallow water workout is designed to give you a

great cardiovascular workout using the resistance of the water to

increase intensity and the buoyancy to reduce the impact on your

joints. A variety of moves and equipment is used to give you the

maximum benefit of this class, including resistance bands. This

class will also give you a little taste of water kickboxing too!

SWIM LESSONS

Swim lessons at the Fruita Community Center are more than just your child learning to swim. Your child will also learn water safety and important social

skills such as taking turns, sharing, listening and following directions.

Wee Wet Wigglers: 6 months - 3 years

Swimming is for the entire family! This class will get parents and

tots together in the water for exploration and FUN. Instruction will

focus on water adjustment and allows your child to experience the

water with you and feel comfortable.

Super Splashers: 3 - 4 years

Respecting and enjoying the water are the objectives of this class.

This class will help orient participants to the aquatic environment

and gain basic skills to be comfortable in and around water.

Aquatics

Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills

The objective of this class is to help students feel comfortable and

enjoy the water safely. Students are taught basic water skills to

develop a healthy attitude and safe practices around the water.

Focus will be on buoyancy, breath control, front and black floats

with support and arm and leg action. Previous swim lessons are

not required. Swimmer must be a least 4 years of age.

Level 3: Stroke Development

This class builds on the skills in Level 2 through additional guided

practice in deeper water. Students must be able to swim using

arm and leg actions on the front and back without support.

Swimmers will learn rhythmic breathing pattern and treading

water. The butterfly stroke will be introduced at this level.

Level 4: Stroke Improvement

This class develops confidence and improvement in the skills

learned. Students at this level must be able to jump into deep

water. Swimmers will continue to perfect the front and back

crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke and learn open turns and head

first entries..

Level 5: Stroke Refinement

Students at this level must be able to swim the front and back

crawl, elementary back stroke, breast stroke, side stroke and tread

water for one minute. All strokes will continue to be perfected and

flip turns will be introduced in this level.

Level 6: Swimming and Skill

Proficiency “Fitness Swimmer”

The student must have successfully completed Level 5 or be able

to demonstrate all course requirements in Level 5.

This class is for the swimmer interested in team swimming.

Students will learn swim etiquette, the use of a pace clock,

principles of setting up a fitness program and demonstration of

various training techniques.

Classes will meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 4 weeks from 4:30 - 5:00pm, 5:10 - 5:40pm

and 5:50 - 6:20pm. Saturday classes will meet once a week for 4 weeks from 9:00 -9:40am, 9:50 -10:30am

and 10:40 - 11:20 am.

*Classes with less than two participants may be cancelled.

*There will be no classes held the weeks of March 5 & March 12.*

Register your child in the class you feel is appropriate according to the class descriptions. Your child

may be moved to a more appropriate level after the first night of swim lessons. Even if you are unsure

of the level of your child, please register for only one class and one section. Please call the Aquatics

Supervisor if you have questions about class levels. Class availability is first-come, first serve. We will

have a wait list but this does not guarantee your child’s placement in a class.

Sorry, no refunds or make-ups for missed lessons. In the event of a class cancellation, a make-up class

CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAMS

After School Open Art Studio

Local artists and teachers have come together to organize a place for the youth of

Fruita to come and make art. Mondays from 3:30-6 in the basement of Fruita Civic

Center. Materials and adult sponsors will be available to help our youth create art.

A minimal fee of $1.00 will be collected at the door and students must sign in each

week they participate. No grades, no assignments just a place to be creative with

other artists

system, and the winners from the Local event will advance to Sectionals. Divisions are formed based on ages.

Black belt Pat Ament has practiced and taught karate for 35 years.

He is an outstanding, sensitive, safe, and insightful instructor who

received his black belt directly from America’s premier martial artist,

the legendary Tsutomu Ohshima, headquartered in Santa Barbara,

California. For information about Shotokan Karate, the original

Japanese karate and first karate to be taught in America go online to

about and practice true karate. This is an adult karate class, although

The Fitness Area includes free weights, circuit weights, cardio machines, stretching area, indoor track and group fitness studio to help you reach your

personal fitness goals. Users must be 14 or older to use the fitness area (all cardio and weight equipment). Users ages 14-16 must attend the Youth

Fitness Orientation, which can be scheduled at the front desk. These orientations will ensure the proper use of the equipment and safety of the users

and those around them.

Indoor Track

The indoor track is open to users 10 and up (10-13 must be accompanied by an on-track adult). The track direction changes every other day, and is

posted near the track. When walkers and runners are both on the track, walkers should remain on the inside lane and runners should use the outside

lane. 14 laps equals 1 mile. No strollers please.

Adult Group Fitness

Join us for motivating classes that offer a fun, social environment, great music and excellent instructors. Find a wide variety of classes that take fitness

to a new level. We offer classes for every level of fitness and ability, so join the class that is best for you. Classes are $1 per class, which is in addition

to the regular pass fee. Class schedules are made on a monthly basis, so be sure to look for the latest schedule. All land classes will be in the Group

Fitness Room unless otherwise noted.

Unlimited Class Pass

Love group fitness classes? Take advantage of our Unlimited Class Pass which is only $10/month. This pass is good for all drop-in fitness classes and for

water aerobics. This pass does not include entrance to the facility.

Class offerings are subject to change at any time. Here is a sample of the classes we offer:

Boot Camp: Plyometrics, functional training, body weight exercises and circuit training will get you in tip-top shape!

Cardio Kickboxing: Fast paced and fun! Punch, kick, jab and jump your way to a stronger body!

Core Yoga: Core muscles, including the abdominals and lower back muscles, are critical to the functioning of the entire musculoskeletal system. Core

Yoga is one of the best ways to strengthen these vital muscles.

Cycle Circuit: A mix of indoor cycling and strength training circuits. A fast-paced, fun and effective workout!

Indoor Cycling: This class simulates a variety of terrain and intensity. Hills, flats, jumps, sprint interval and endurance interval training are all

included. It is important to bring water and go at your own pace.

Kid Fit: Calling all young athletes! This is a fun and safe class that will teach kids the importance of exercise and how exciting it can be!

Low Impact Aerobics: One foot remains on the floor at all times in this aerobic class. You need not be airborne to get your heart rate up, burn fat

and have fun!

Parent/Tot Yoga: Don’t let a new addition to the family stop you from practicing yoga; bring him or her along! This class is for parents and young

children ages 6 months to 4 years.

Step: A fun, high energy, all around cardio workout designed to get the heart pumping and the body moving. All fitness levels are welcome; you can

make this class as easy or as challenging as you see fit..

Step & Sculpt: What do you get when you combine Step Aerobics with Body Sculpting? Answer: an awesome workout that strengthens your

cardiovascular system and major muscle groups.

Strength: Get a full body strength workout using body bars, dumbbells, body weight and kettlebells. Fun and challenging!

Tai-Chi: A traditional Chinese practice using slow soft martial arts. Along with relaxing meditative techniques, benefits also include improved

flexibility, balance, lower body strength and coordination. Good for people of all ages and levels.

Personal training gives you the guidance, motivation, and education to get to your goals and make a lifestyle change. Whether you need help

putting together a plan that will help you reach your fitness goals or simply need basic instruction on how to use our equipment, personal trainers

500 Mile Club

Calling all fitness buffs & buffettes! Are you tired of running and riding to

nowhere? Then come join the Fruita Community Center 500-Mile Club.

Create your own workout or sit down with one of our personal trainers to

develop a program to fit your specific needs. Complete 500 miles walking,

jogging, swimming, bicycling, stair stepping, or any combination and receive

a 500-Mile Club T-shirt. If you are participating in Lap Dawgs (see Aquatics

section), those miles count toward the 500 Mile Club! Prizes and guest

CancerFit

The mission of this program is to develop, provide, and support opportunities for quality cancer-specific exercise programs to patients and survivors in a

healthy and positive environment. The 6-month exercise program is modified to meet the needs of each participant. It includes an initial evaluation by

an exercise specialist certified in cancer and exercise; an individualized exercise plan and instruction on use of equipment specified in the prescription;

complimentary 6 month community center pass; bi-weekly group classes open only to CancerFit participants; and a post evaluation consultation on

future exercise options.

The Senior Center is located on the southwest corner of the Fruita Community Center and is free for use. The library is free to use as well. Use of other

areas such as: Indoor/outdoor pools, running/walking track, fitness areas, and gymnasium require a pass or entry fee.

Slow the effects of aging with a unique water exercise class specifically designed for those

Express Breath

You’ll get it all with this class! Some cardiovascular and core

conditioning, muscle toning, and much more while focusing on proper

breathing technique. Some deep water exercises may be included in this

Run & Health Expo

Join Family Health West and Fruita Parks and

Recreation for the 5th Annual Sweet Heart Run

and Health Expo!

• 5k /10k runs begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.

• Sweet Heart Category (any two person team

will combine individual times for a team total time).

Sweet Heart runners must register in person, by mail

or by phone.

• Race day registration will take place from

7:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m.

• Pre registration for the run/walk ends February 4th
