President’s Message
News and views from the UWPIAA President Stuart Shepherd (78E)
UWPIAA Board of Governors
in just a few short months it will
be time to travel to Tucson,
Arizona, for “Coming Home –
Reunion 2004.” Not only will we be
celebrating with the reunioning
casts, but we also hope that anyone
who ever worked for UWP — in the
office or on the road — will also join
the celebration. All of the familiar
faces that made staging in Tucson a
real highlight of the UWP experience
will be there to join the festivities.
This will be a reunion you won’t
want to miss!
Alumni support this past year
has been overwhelming and I am
forever grateful for your generosity.
Alumni contributed US $15,500 to
the UWPIAA. These funds enable
the Association to produce UpBeat
and maintain the UWPIAA web site
and Online Community — two very
important benefits to all alumni! To
encourage all alumni to help support
their Association, Donna Reed (76A)
has worked tirelessly on a new
membership program. We look
forward to sharing her work with
you in the hope that all alumni will
join together to ensure the
UWPIAA is financially stable and
its services are available to all
alumni. (See “We Are Many, We
Are One” on page 3 for more
information on the new membership
program.)
hold its spring meeting in Cologne,
Germany, in partnership with the
European Alumni Meeting (EAM)
taking place on March 13, 2004. We
are looking forward to this joint
meeting and the opportunity it
provides to strengthen relationships
and create new strategies with our
European alumni clubs and chapters.
Tremendous thanks to every
member of the Board of Governors!
I can’t begin to add the thousands of
hours of volunteer time these amazing
individuals contribute each
month. I’m sure their bosses think
they are incredible producers at their
workstations each day, when in
reality they are e-mailing alumni all
over the world as they conduct the
work of the UWPIAA. I know you
join me in thanking each of them for
their passion in keeping the Associa-
outreach to
alumni.
I also want to
thank the members
of the
Tucson Reunion Stuart Shepherd
Host Committee.
They have created one of the most
fun and exciting reunions we will
have the opportunity to experience.
All of the energy and excitement of a
staging in Tucson will be with us
once again as we take part in “Coming
Home! – UWPIAA Reunion
2004.”
I look forward to seeing you this
summer in Tucson!
The UWPIAA Online Community is the directory of the Up With
People International Alumni Association. It’s not only a great place
to find lost UWP friends, but also an ideal way to be sure that
UpBeat is sent to your correct address.
This directory is the only existing directory of UWP alumni, but we need
your help to make it more accurate.
Once you register, you can update your own personal information
in the database – address, phone number, e-mail, family members’
names, job title and company, even your hobbies. You choose what
information to make public and what to keep private. And registering
is free!
To register, go to www.uwpiaa.org and click on “online community.”
There are detailed instructions listed there to help you access and
update your information.
Register in the Online Community now
and see how many of those old friends you can find!
