ITINERARY<br />

Day 1 – Monday, May 6: Depart USA<br />

We depart USA on an overnight flight to Zagreb, <strong>Croatia</strong>.<br />

Day 2 – Tuesday, May 7: Arrive Zagreb (<strong>Croatia</strong>)<br />

Welcome to <strong>the</strong> magnificent country of <strong>Croatia</strong>. You are<br />

met at <strong>the</strong> airport by our professional English speaking<br />

lecturer/guide and transferred to your four star hotel in<br />

<strong>the</strong> city. The rest of <strong>the</strong> afternoon is at leisure to become<br />

acclimated to a new time zone. Your hotel is near <strong>the</strong><br />

center of <strong>the</strong> city and you may wish to take a walk down<br />

<strong>the</strong> main street of Ilica. This evening, your tour director<br />

hosts a briefing followed by welcome dinner. (D.)<br />

Day 3 – Wednesday, May 8: Zagreb<br />

You enjoy <strong>the</strong> morning tour of <strong>the</strong> city including a visit to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Upper Old Town and see St. Stephen’s Ca<strong>the</strong>dral and<br />

St. Marks <strong>Church</strong>. You'll also visit colorful Jelacic Square<br />

and wander <strong>the</strong> surrounding narrow alleys. Proceed to <strong>the</strong><br />

historic Mirogoj Park Cemetery, known for its opulent<br />

sculptures and arcades. The remainder of <strong>the</strong> day is at<br />

leisure to explore <strong>the</strong> city, shop relax in a café or visit <strong>the</strong><br />

impressive Mimara Museum with its unique arts and crafts<br />

Day 4 – Thursday, May 9: Zagreb/Ljubljana/Bled<br />

Following breakfast, depart through <strong>the</strong> lush countryside<br />

and cross <strong>the</strong> nearby border to <strong>the</strong> Republic of Slovenia.<br />

Ljubljana, <strong>the</strong> exciting capital of this small but prosperous<br />

state is full of life and interesting sites. You have lunch on<br />

your own and an opportunity to see <strong>the</strong> city on an afternoon<br />

walking tour. The old town is dotted with small<br />

shops and numerous outdoor cafes and restaurants. Stroll<br />

along <strong>the</strong> riverside promenade and visit <strong>the</strong> bustling and<br />

colorful open air market. This afternoon proceed to <strong>the</strong><br />

enchanting resort town of Lake Bled, situated on <strong>the</strong> lakeshore<br />

and surrounded by <strong>the</strong> majestic Julian Alps. Enjoy<br />

dinner at your hotel tonight. (B.D.)<br />

Day 5 – Friday, May 10: Lake Bled<br />

This morning enjoy a guided tour of <strong>the</strong> beautiful emeraldgreen<br />

Lake Bled area including a visit to <strong>the</strong> Bled Castle<br />

perched high on a cliff above <strong>the</strong> lake. The afternoon is at<br />

leisure for independent exploration of this charming village.<br />

You may join a relaxing cruise around <strong>the</strong> lake. Overnight<br />

Day 6 – Saturday, May 11: Lake Bled/Postojna<br />

Caves/Opatija (<strong>Croatia</strong>)<br />

We drive south towards <strong>the</strong> Adriatic coast to <strong>the</strong> mysterious<br />

Postojna Caves, <strong>the</strong> second largest in Europe. Here,<br />

ride a train to view <strong>the</strong> impressive stalagmites and stalactites.<br />

Later, proceed to <strong>the</strong> fashionable Riviera town of<br />

Opatija,, known as <strong>the</strong> resort of <strong>the</strong> royalty due to its<br />

history and <strong>the</strong> beautiful villas which dot <strong>the</strong> Oceanside.<br />

We enjoy dinner in a local restaurant tonight followed by a<br />

lovely walk along <strong>the</strong> sea shore promenade. (B. D.)<br />

Day 7 – Sunday, May 12: Opatija/Istria Peninsula<br />

We have a full day excursion to <strong>the</strong> picturesque towns<br />

dotted along <strong>the</strong> scenic coastline and <strong>the</strong> exciting surrounding<br />

landscape. We stop to sample <strong>the</strong> local food,<br />

taste some home made brandy and take lots of pictures.<br />

Day 8 – Monday, May 13: Opatija/Plitvice Lakes<br />

We drive toward <strong>the</strong> center of <strong>Croatia</strong> and <strong>the</strong> magnificent<br />

Plitvice Lakes National Park, a string of 16 turquoise colored<br />

lakes linked by 92 waterfalls and cascades and surrounded<br />

by densely wooded mountains and lush<br />

vegetation. This afternoon enjoy a short scenic boat ride<br />

and a leisurely walk along <strong>the</strong> lakeshores. Admire <strong>the</strong><br />

awesome waterfalls and <strong>the</strong> magnificent natural beauty.<br />

Tonight dinner is in <strong>the</strong> ethnic restaurant where you taste<br />

and enjoys <strong>the</strong> best food and atmosphere <strong>Croatia</strong> has to<br />

Day 9 – Tuesday, May 14: Plitvice Lakes/Zadar/Split<br />

Today we drive toward <strong>the</strong> coast and <strong>the</strong> oldest Slavic<br />

town on <strong>the</strong> Adriatic Sea and once famed cultural center,<br />

Zadar. Pause here for an orientation tour that includes a<br />

visit to <strong>the</strong> Roman Forum's ruins and some time at leisure.<br />

Arrive in Split in time for a lovely afternoon walk in <strong>the</strong> old<br />

town and dinner on your own tonight. (B.)<br />

Day 10 – Wednesday, May 15: Split/Mostar/Dubrovnik<br />

Split is a historic town and also <strong>the</strong> main port of <strong>Croatia</strong>.<br />

We have a walking city tour included <strong>the</strong> impressive Emperor's<br />

Palace built in <strong>the</strong> 3rd century. This afternoon, delight<br />

in a breathtaking drive along <strong>the</strong> spectacular Dalmatian<br />

coast of <strong>the</strong> Adriatic, dotted with palm trees, olive groves<br />

and idyllic fishing villages. We drive inland into Bosnia and<br />

Herzegovina to visit Mosta, a lovely town with <strong>the</strong> famous<br />

bridge which was destroyed in <strong>the</strong> recent Balkan conflict<br />

and now completely rebuilt. You have time to shop in <strong>the</strong><br />

Bazaar and have a meal in one of <strong>the</strong> many restaurants<br />

along <strong>the</strong> banks of River Neretva. We visit an ethnic<br />

village and have dinner tonight in a vinoteka a unique<br />

restaurant where we sample local food and wine. Overnight<br />

Day 11 – Thursday, May 16: Mostar/Dubrovnik<br />

We drive back to <strong>the</strong> coast and our final stop, <strong>the</strong> Pear of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Adriatic: Dubrovnik. This afternoon we have a city tour<br />

including <strong>the</strong> harbor, <strong>the</strong> Franciscan monastery and <strong>the</strong><br />

stately Baroque Ca<strong>the</strong>dral. The afternoon and evening are<br />

at leisure to discover <strong>the</strong> treasures of <strong>the</strong> historic old town<br />

at your own pace. (B.)<br />

Day 12 – Friday, May 17: Montenegro<br />

Today, drive across <strong>the</strong> border to <strong>the</strong> Republic of Montenegro<br />

and <strong>the</strong> beautiful Bay of Kotor, <strong>the</strong> longest and deepest<br />

fjord in Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Europe. See <strong>the</strong> towns of Risan and<br />

Kotor located along <strong>the</strong> curving roadway. Enjoy a breathtaking<br />

view of <strong>the</strong> bay and learn about <strong>the</strong> rich history of<br />

<strong>the</strong> area. Proceed to <strong>the</strong> Monastery of Ostrog built into<br />

<strong>the</strong> ancient hills where we have a guided visit. Tonight we<br />

have a farewell dinner in a lovely restaurant in <strong>the</strong> fishing<br />

Day 13 – Saturday, May 18: Dubrovnik/USA<br />

Morning transfer to <strong>the</strong> airport for your flight. Your memorable<br />

journey ends as you arrive <strong>the</strong> USA later today. (B.)<br />

Deposits and final payment: A deposit of $500.00 per person should accompany <strong>the</strong> registration form, along with your optional insurance<br />

payment and copies of your passport picture page by December 1, 2012. Final payment is due March 25, 2013. An optional payment plan is available<br />

Airline seating and special requests: We do not reserve specific seats with <strong>the</strong> airline. You may change your seat at <strong>the</strong> airport prior to departure. Please<br />

Single supplement: A few single rooms are available for an additional $595.00 per person and can not exceed 10% of <strong>the</strong> group.<br />

Baggage: Each participant is allowed to check (1) suitcase weighing no more than 50 lbs., and one small carry-on bag on <strong>the</strong> plane. Baggage fees are not<br />

Tour Cancellation Policy: Up to 90 days prior to departure a reservation fee of $150 is withheld. Within 90 days of departure all payments are nonrefundable<br />

regardless of reason for cancellations. All cancellations must be in writing. Unused portions of <strong>the</strong> trip are not refundable. We strongly urge you to<br />

purchase Trip Cancellation/Travel Insurance at an additional $245 per person for Basic Coverage, or $367 per person for <strong>the</strong> Cancel for Any Reason policy.<br />
