Natural Area Workdays 

Natural area workdays are great opportunities for adults and 

adult-lead youth groups to assist the Cary Park District Parks 

Department in preserving and restoring natural areas. Participants 

may collect seeds, plant native species of flora, or remove brush 

and debris. Volunteers meet at a site by 8:00 am and can work until 

about 2:30 pm.

Cary Park District Residents, 

Wow! Hard to believe that summer can move so quickly into fall. We hope that 

you have been able to get out and enjoy all that Cary Park District has to offer 

and that you continue to play outdoors this fall.

If you haven’t noticed, a number of new trail segments have been developed, 

are currently under construction, or are soon to be added to the extensive trail 

system throughout the Cary Park District area. These trail segments are the result 

of years of planning and preparation, are part of the Village of Cary, Cary Park 

District and Algonquin Township Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan originally approved 

in 2002. Now, the entire trail system is finally becoming reality. 

This past year, through a cooperative agreement with the Park District, the Village 

of Cary was able to develop the Cary-Algonquin Road Trail corridor from 

Fox Trails Drive North to West Main Street. This was an important trail segment 

that links the community from south to north.

Currently, the Park District is developing the north community trail segment. 

Through a grant with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the trail will connect 

S. Rawson Bridge Road near Crystal Lake Avenue to Cary-Grove Park, also 

connecting through Cary-Grove Park to Cary Junior High School at the west 

terminus (connected to Lions Park), and to the Three Oaks Road trail segment 

at the south terminus (connecting to Cary-Grove High School, Cary Area Library 

and Three Oaks School). There are several loops that will be created for trail users 

that have very few road crossings. When completed, you will be able to go 

from Fox Trails subdivision to Foxford Hills Golf Course via trail and sidewalk with 

ease.

Next on the trail development agenda is the nearly 1-mile segment included in 

the Hoffman Park Phase 1 Project. This extension will connect Georgetown and 

West Main Street to New Haven Drive in the Cambria subdivision. It is part of the 

full trail system planned for Hoffman Park, that will eventually circumnavigate 

the entire 278 acre site. 

So, why develop trails in the community? Two main reasons: 

1. Recreation—personal and family fitness opportunities. The family that plays 

together, walks together, takes bike rides, or skates together, is a healthier 

family. Whether on your own or with your spouse or children, sometimes the 

best stress relief is just a nice walk, bike, skate or run outdoors. With childhood 

obesity at unacceptable levels, a simple early morning or after-dinner walk is 

a great way to get your family to exercise. 

2. Alternate means of transportation. Help reduce your carbon footprint and 

use the trail system instead of driving to a park, school, library or the store. It’s 

good for the environment. 

We hope to see you out and about on the magnificent trail system that is coming 

together throughout the area. Enjoy the outdoors and get some fresh air this 

fall!

“All Aboard!” Families will take a train to Santa’s Workshop

to capture the memories. Then, we will board the train 

back to Cary. Fee includes activities, meal, and train

and Tree Lighting 

Kick off the holiday season and join us for the lighting of the Jaycee Park Holiday Walk! Enjoy holiday lights,

Foxford Hills Golf Club features 18 distinctly spectacular holes, a bright and airy, wellstocked

Resident Discount Cards (RDC) 

A Cary Park District resident may purchase a Foxford Hills 

Golf Club Resident Discount Card (RDC) to receive discounts 

on greens fees, handicap services, driving range, 

and golf lessons. These cards are non-transferable. 

CDGA Handicap System 

Foxford Hills Golf Club offers golfers a handicapping service 

through the CDGA. A handicap may be purchased 

for $40 (RDC $35). 

Permanent Weekend Tee Times 

Permanent tee times are available on a first-come, firstserved 

basis and run 21 consecutive weeks on Saturdays 

and Sundays, April 10/11 to August 28/29. Please contact 

the golf shop at 847.639.0400. 

Tee Time Reservations 

Tee times may be made seven (7) days in advance with a 

major credit card. MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American 

Express are accepted. 

Dress Code 

Attire must be in keeping with the standards of the sport. 

Attire not permitted includes, but is not limited to, bathing 

suits, cutoffs, and sandals. Foxford Hills Golf Club is a nonmetal

Pilates on the Ball: This program combines 

traditional mat Pilates exercises 

mixed with Pilates-based exercises utilizing 

the stability ball. Instructor: Rica T. 

Pilates & Pump: This workout combines 

Pilates with traditional resistance training. 

The focus is on core stabilization 

exercises. Increase flexibility and build 

strength through the use of weights,

The Cary Park District provides a variety of fitness 

programs that are presented in a friendly atmosphere with 

participants’ safety and well being always considered. Each 

program is taught at the intermediate level. Options for higher 

or lower fitness levels are demonstrated to accommodate 

participants of all fitness levels. 

Sitting Strong: Program is conducted 

in a seated position and is great for active 

older adults, those slowed by injury 

or anyone getting back into a fitness 

routine. Build strength, stretch, balance,

all the step classes offered. One week

Childcare 

Childcare is available for children who walk and have 

parents participating in fitness or other programs that 

coincide with childcare hours. Hours are Monday - 

Friday from 9:15 - 10:15 am. 

Childcare is available only if the morning fitness 

program is held. Either pay daily $3.00 per child or 

purchase a punch card for additional savings. One 

punch provides childcare for one child during one 

program.

The Cary Park District Preschool creates a positive, sensitive

Snow Tubing at Sunburst 


Experience the thrill of tubing down one of the 900-foot 

long chutes each with a 10-story drop, reaching speeds

on, grab your friends and get ready for a fun day. The 

fee includes three hours of tubing, transportation, chaperones,

The Weight Loss Challenge is an 8-week program that will teach you how to lose 

weight and keep it off. Participants meet together to learn about proper nutrition, 

how to improve eating habits, and find out exactly how many calories a day your 

body burns. The goal is to live healthy with vim, vigor, and vitality for the rest of 

your life. Because of all the helpful information, attendance at the weekly meetings 

are a KEY factor in ensuring success. Each week includes a weigh-in and a consultation 

with coaches who offer meal options and encouragement to help reach 

your ideal weight and body composition. Each person will receive personalized 

coaching. Topics that will be discussed include protein, carbohydrates, water, digestion,

go out, have fun and make friends? Since 1976, NISRA has 

provided recreation programs for people with disabilities, 

and its mission is: enriching the lives of people with disabilities 

through meaningful recreation experiences. Socializing, 

building physical skills, learning, relaxation and fun are 

some of the benefits gained from participating in NISRA’s 

year round activities. Sports, fitness, social, cultural, outdoor 

and preschool programs, along with camps, special 

events and trips offer enjoyment for children, teens and 

adults of all ability levels. NISRA also offers Special Olympics 

training and competition in 15 sports. 

The Cary Park District and 12 other districts form NISRA. 

NISRA serves residents of McHenry County, and parts of 

Cook, Kane and Lake counties. Programs are provided in 

community facilities throughout the area. 

NISRA staff assist our park district/recreation department

Tiny Ballerina 

Be introduced to dance through music and creative movement. 

Become familiar with basic concepts as left and 

right, balancing, moving across the floor, and sequencing 

exercises. Also, dancers receive a basic introduction to 

ballet steps and terminology. 

Beginner Ballet 

Explore the wonderful world of ballet. Learn to move gracefully 

and perform with poise. 

Beginner Ballet & Tap 

Perfect for the first-time dancer, this beginning program 

focuses on the classical form of dance and the rhythms 

and patterns of tap. Learn both ballet and tap technique, 

terminology, and movements in one program. 

Advanced/Beginner Ballet & Tap 

Dancers receive continued training in both ballet and tap 

skills and techniques through exposure to warm-ups and 

choreography in both ballet and tap. Dancers should have 

some previous dance experience. 

Advanced/Intermediate Ballet & Tap 

This program combines the poise and grace of ballet with 

the energetic and loud movements of tap with more advanced 

terminology and choreography for the intermediate 

dancer.

Street Jazz 

Jazz, a contemporary form of dance, is commonly used in 

Broadway shows and movies. Learn basic jazz terminology, 

center floor work, across the floor combinations, and basic 

turns and leaps. 

Hip Hop 1 

Try an upbeat style of dance. Hip Hop takes a little jazz and 

blends it with street and urban styles seen in your favorite 

movies and music videos. 

Shake, Rattle, and Roll 

Get your little one up and moving to fun, upbeat music 

while learning the newest dance moves and some of the 

classics as well. We’ll do everything from the “Funky Chicken” 

to the “Charlie Brown.” 

Cheerleading 

Show your spirit and leap, turn, kick, jump, clap, and yell. 

Then put together a little jazz/hip hop dance to form a 

rountine. 

Boys Tap & Creative Movement 

Here is a chance for boys to learn about the joys of movement 

set to music while making their own noise while tapping. 

Adult Tap 

Tap dancing will help you stay active, improve cardiovascular 

strength, and develop coordination. Learn basic tap 

steps and perform a tap routine set to music. Bring either 

tap or hard-soled shoes and wear comfortable, loose-fitting

Bowling, shuffleboard and other games are played

Golden Diners Lunch Program 

The Salvation Army sponsors the Golden Diners Lunch 

Program. Lunch is served at 11:15 am, Monday-Friday. 

Suggested donation is $3.50 for those 60 years

Age Appropriate: 

Ages and/or grades are listed with programs as guidelines 

for age-specific ability. The younger the participant, the 

more this guideline must be followed to insure safety, enjoyment, 

and accomplishment. A birth certificate may be 

requested if doubt occurs concerning a participant’s age. 

Behavior: 

Although the Park District realizes that inappropriate behavior 

may occur, the Park District reserves the right to suspend 

or remove participants from programs or facilities if hazardous, 

disruptive, and/or destructive behavior persists. If a participant 

is taken out of a program or removed from a facility 

due to these circumstances, a prorated refund will be issued 

for the remainder of the program or facility usage. 

Fees: 

Resident/Non-resident - The first program fees listed in the 

brochure are for Cary Park District residents. Non-resident 

(NR) fees are listed second and are the higher rate of the 

two. Residents support the Park District through tax dollars, 

while non-residents pay to participate through higher registration 

fees. All account balances must be paid in full before 

registering for new programs. 

Fair Share - Those desiring to achieve resident status may 

pay their “fair share” of taxes based on the taxable value 

of their home. This annual payment entitles an individual 

to pay in-district fees for all Park District programs, tuition, 

passes, etc. and to register for programs at the same time 

as residents. 


Minimum/Maximum: 

A minimum and maximum number of participants is set for 

each program. This is to ensure the best possible experience 

for each participant. The Park District may increase or reduce 

program size if necessary. 

Say Cheese! 

Photographs and videos are taken of participants to use 

for promotional purposes. By registering for a program, you 

have granted the Park District permission to use your image 

for promotional purposes unless otherwise stated. 

In Case of Oops! 

During the course of Park District programs, there can be 

unforeseen circumstances that force the Park District to 

change schedules, instructors, combine or postpone programs, 

adjust facility usage or modify fees. The Park District 

makes every effort to ensure that the information presented 

in this brochure is complete and accurate; however, sometimes 

errors do occur and we apologize in advance for any 

inconvenience this may cause. 

Insurance: 

The Park District does not carry medical or accident insurance 

for program or facility participants. The cost would 

make program fees prohibitive. Please review your own 

personal health insurance plan to be certain that you and 

your family have the proper coverage. 

Policies, Procedures and Guidelines: 

Additional Park District policies, procedures and guidelines 

are available for review at the Cary Park District Community 

Center. 

A Note of Thanks: 

Thank you to School Districts 155, 26 and 3 for providing 

facilities in which to hold recreational programs; to Park 

District Commissioners, volunteers, and staff who devote 

so much of their time; and to you, the community, for your 

continued support. 

The taxable value of a property is stated clearly on the tax 

bill. Fair share in not necessarily for everyone. This has to be 

determined by you, taking into consideration the frequency 

of Park District use and the value of your home.

is for you. If you don’t have a copy of your current tax bill, 

call your taxing township for your home’s taxable value. 

Waiver of Fees - A Waiver of Fees program is available to 

provide assistance to residents with financial hardship. Confidential 

application may be made to the Superintendent 

of Recreation. Personal financial records may be requested 

to verify need.

The Cary Park District complies with the Americans with 

Disabilities Act (ADA), which prohibits discrimination in the 

provision of programs, services or activities to individuals 

with disabilities. The Park District invites any resident with a 

special need to contact us, or the Northern Illinois Special 

Recreation Association staff, upon registration, to ensure a 

smooth inclusion. 

In addition to the programs listed within our brochure, the 

Park District also provides specialized services for people 

with disabilities through the Northern Illinois Special

Process: 

Resident Registration - Registration for residents begins as 

soon as you receive the brochure. 

Resident “First Batch” Registration - To give all residents the 

first and equal opportunity to register, a computerized randomization 

system is used to fill programs. All resident registrations 

that are received on or before Friday, August 6 at 

4:30 p.m. are considered “first batch” and will be randomized. 

A registration confirmation will be provided only when 

a registration has not been granted (i.e. wait list). Therefore, 

presume you are registered for a program unless you are 

notified otherwise by the Park District. If an opening does

All resident registrations received after Friday, August 6 at 

4:30 pm will be processed in the order received after the 

computer randomization is complete. 

Non-resident Registration - Registration for non-residents will 

be processed beginning Monday, August 16. All non-resident 

registrations are processed in the order received. 

Residency Checks - Any registrations with payment in 

cash or by credit card, and no previous account history, 

are subject to having residency checked with a printed 

form of proof such as a driver’s license, utility bill, etc. Also, 

addresses on checks that do not match addresses on 

registration forms will be subject to a residency check. Individual 

families should register on one form. Multiple families 

listed on one form will prevent your registration from being 

processed. 

Satisfaction Guaranteed Policy: 

The Cary Park District guarantees your satisfaction with the 

recreation programs and activities in which you participate. 

If you are not completely satisfied for any reason, please 

let us know. You will be able to choose one of the following 

options: 

1. Repeat the program at no charge. 

2. Receive full credit that can be applied 

to another program. 

3. Receive a full refund.

Payment accepted: Checks (payable to the Cary Park 

District), cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover. Do not pay with 

cash if mailing or dropping your registration in the drop box. 

Receipts will be issued upon registration at the Community 

Center for cash payment validation.

The Park District does not accept phone registrations.

Withdrawal Guidelines: 

Cary Park District reserves the right to cancel any program 

with insufficient enrollment. An automatic and full refund will 

be granted. 

All other requests must be made in writing at the Park District 

office and not with the program instructor. 

When a participant requests to withdraw, a $5 service 

charge will be deducted per program. 

If the first meeting of a program has passed, withdrawal requests 

will be considered on a prorated basis in addition to 

the $5 service charge. 

A registration confirmation will be provided only when a registration 

has not been granted (i.e., wait list). In this instance, 

a confirmation will be issued to confirm the status of these 

registrations. 

Therefore, presume you are registered for a program unless 

you are notified otherwise by the Park District. Questions

All refund checks will be mailed. 

Withdrawal Guidelines do not apply to one-day programs/ 

events, sports leagues, tournaments, tickets to sporting or 

entertainment events, or payments that may be required

Warning of Risk: Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental, and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, 

medical advice, conditioning, and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending 

on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers, and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike 

conduct, premise defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction, or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist. In 

this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Cary Park District to guarantee absolute safety. 

Waiver and Release of all Claims and Assumption of Risk: Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in Cary Park District identified programs/activities, you will be expressly 

assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages, or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected 

with and associated with said programs/activities (including transportation services/vehicle operation, when provided). 

I recognized and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in these programs/activities, and I voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless 

of severity, that my minor child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. I further agree to waive or relinquish all claims I or my minor child/ward may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a 

result of participating in these programs/activities against the Cary Park District including its officials, agents, volunteers, and employees (hereinafter collectively referred to as “Cary Park District”).
