Message from the President<br />

Welcome to the Autumn edition of 5 Field<br />

Ambulance RAAMC Association Quarterly Magazine.<br />

I trust you enjoyed the Christmas break and are<br />

raring to get into <strong>2010</strong>. To our sick and staggering<br />

members I hope <strong>2010</strong> brings you greater fulfillment<br />

than in the past year.<br />

Your Association is still being superbly marshaled by<br />

Alan Curry even with the trauma of Ruth and himself<br />

moving house for he has never taken the foot off the<br />

Association pedal. Sincere thanks Alan.<br />

On December 16th 2009 Kevin Hurrell, Brian Tams<br />

and I handed over the framed 1st World War 6 Light<br />

Horse Tapestry to, the Manager Greg Read and Deputy<br />

Manager Anthony Clancy of the Anzac Memorial<br />

Building, Hyde Park Sydney. This occasion and the<br />

certificate of acceptance are found later in this edition.<br />

Following the successful launch of the <strong>2010</strong> Reserve<br />

Forces Day (RFD) at Shore School on 5th December<br />

2009(refer December 2009 Magazine), the presentation<br />

of RFD 2009 Parade Awards and briefing for the <strong>2010</strong><br />

Parade will take place on 18th March <strong>2010</strong>. The location<br />

is Level 11, Defence Plaza 270 Pitt St. Sydney 1900 for<br />

1930. Member Barry Collins, ASM Fred Bell and I will be<br />

in attendance.<br />

Anzac Day is almost with us again and following the<br />

success of last year I urge all able members to join us<br />

behind the NSW RAAMC ASSOCIATION Banner. We have<br />

again invited 5 CSSB Health Company to lead our<br />

contingent.<br />

We will form up at the Corner of Spring and Bent<br />

Streets at approximately 1030hrs. You are all<br />

encouraged to attend the After March Function booked<br />

for Paddington RSL Club. If attending please contact<br />

The following are from the minutes of the RAAMC<br />

ASSOCIATION (Inc) NSW meeting at Victoria Barracks on<br />

Friday 5th February <strong>2010</strong>.<br />

The National<br />

Straskye informed that<br />

he had spoken to the<br />

Commanding Officer<br />

of 1st Health Support<br />

Battalion, Lt Col<br />

Lachlan Sinclair and as<br />

Derek Cannon<br />

a consequence<br />

members from 1 HSB will be marching on Anzac Day<br />

with 1 AFH.<br />

John Straskye informed the meeting that the RAAMC<br />

Corps Committee will soon be selling limited edition<br />

(200) signed prints of the RAAMC Painting “ From The<br />

Sudan to Afghanistan” for $350. In addition 20 limited<br />

edition half size replicas, printed on canvas, were also on<br />

sale at $800. A replica was shown at the meeting.<br />

John also informed the meeting that progress was<br />

continuing with the establishment of the Victorian<br />

Branch of the RAAMC Association and that their<br />

inaugural meeting was on 28th February.<br />

Rod Bain informed the meeting that a site on Anzac<br />

Parade, Canberra has been allocated for construction of<br />

a National War Memorial to commemorate the soldiers<br />

and nurses who served in South Africa between 1899<br />

and 1902.<br />

The RAAMC ASSOCIATION (Inc) NSW meets on the<br />

first Friday of each even Month. The next meeting<br />

however is on 9th April 1010 at Victoria Barracks at<br />

1030hrs. due to the first Friday being Easter. 5 Field<br />

Ambulance Association members are encouraged to<br />

attend if possible.<br />
