We’re different

Sirius Academy is an inclusive; student centred community

that offers young people a high quality education. We aspire to

challenge traditional thinking on how educational institutions

should be managed. Providing our students with more than

merely academic success, but offering them a broad range of

experiences, which seek to build their confidence and open their

minds. Sirius is a forward thinking, contemporary and successful

academy, which prides itself on being innovative and different.

We are proud to be sponsored by Hull College who

have been graded by Ofsted as outstanding in every area.

Different learning - equals success

Superb GCSE results have been achieved this year, with

40% of our students achieving 5 or more GCSEs at grade

C or above, including Mathematics and English; a result

which positions the Academy in the top 5% nationally of

schools in terms of progression.

This was a remarkable year for Sirius who also exceeded

the targets set by the Fischer Family Trust, which

addresses educational development in the UK.

The Academy offers students an unrivalled network

of support, from our highly qualified enthusiastic,

experienced team of staff. We also have a fantastic

pastoral support system in place, whereby students are

encouraged to develop new skills, talents and grow as

an individual.

At Sirius Academy we understand that every individual

learner has different needs, aspirations and ambitions.

This is why we create personalised programmes of study

to enable each individual to maximise their potential.

We ensure that all students’ learning is fun and exciting.

For this years’ GCSE students we embarked on a unique

learning programme, which included a Mathematics

intervention given by expert mathematician and BBC TV

presenter, Johnny Ball, as well as an energy charged

performance from Dr Mark Lewney, winner of NESTA

FameLab®, who blew our minds with his Superstring Theory.

Specialism at

the heart of learning

Our specialism of Environmental Sciences and

Sport lead the way to our goal of excellence for all,

embedding the values we want for every student,

through a realistic and contemporary learning

curriculum. It is our aim to equip our learners with the

necessary transferable skills for life after the Academy.

In October 2010 we joined forces

with Hull’s award winning visitor

attraction, The Deep. This world

class aquarium is working on

research and conservation projects both in the UK and

abroad. This partnership will provide opportunities

for students to further their understanding of

environmental issues.

August 2010 saw the announcement

of the new partnership with Hull FC, to

create Hull’s first ever rugby academy.

The academy will provide students who

are passionate about sport with an

exceptional opportunity. Learners will

benefit from an enhanced curriculum, which will offer

Rugby League development that will not only focus on

the core skills involved, but everything from the rules of

the game to psychology and team work strategies. The

programmes will be enriched by involvement and tuition

from members of Hull’s first-team squad with the aim of

developing the potential stars of the future.

The New Build

Sirius Academy will be built with 21st century learning

in mind, with the very latest technology embedded into

student’s everyday experience, creating a business like

environment. The Academy will be flexible, exciting and

innovative in its approach to supporting learners and

the wider community to reach their potential.

In the new building, students will be taught in a very

modern and well-equipped learning environment that

will boast contemporary science and ICT facilities, and

its own recording studio, performing arts suite, hair

salon and construction bays. As a Sports Academy we

will be host to a stunning six court sports hall designed

to meet international standards, a 3G all weather pitch, a

multi use games area and sports lab

The newly built school will be co-located with Ganton

special school a new ‘learning centre’ to be built under

‘Building Schools for the Future’ (BSF) an investment

to transform learning. It will also house the Education

Service for Hearing and Vision (ESHV).

Imagine … the opportunities are endless
