Year 10/11 Boys City Championships Matt Ward 2nd + League winner year 10 for winning 2 out of 4 races. Sam Hassall 3rd. These results lead to a number of competitors competing for Derby West at the County Championships at Caton Park. Year 7 – Luke Ward 1 st , Luke Harrison 13 th , Josh Harrison 17 th , Kier Shepperd 32 nd , Kyle Smith 78 th. Year 8/9 – Hugo Milner 1 st , Dylan Garbett 6 th , Gabriel McCallum Archer, Matt Chan. Year 10/11 – Matt Ward 2 nd , Sam Hassall 4 th. This then resulted in Hugo Milner, Dylan Garbett, Matt Ward and Sam Hassall representing Derbyshire at the National Cross Country Championships. PSHE,Citizenship and Careers News National Competition Success! As reported in an earlier Newsletter Amar Dhariwal in 7 BKV was placed third in the country in the Show Racism the Red Card Competition in the Creative Writing Category. Amar went with his family to London to Chelsea’s ground to collect his award last month. Here is his account of the day: Show Racism the Red Card Awards Ceremony The day started with a challenging trek up to London, where we arrived at Chelsea Football Club’s stadium, Stamford Bridge. The time was around 12:30 and we entered the Champions Club area which is located at the north side on the Matthew Harding Stand. As we entered my name was taken down and we headed up the stairs towards the presentation area where there was a meet and greet with some football players such as Luther Blisset. Soon, once I had got an autograph, the time approached 1:00 and it was time to take a tour of the stadium. My dad and I went and the first place we visited was the changing rooms; there was a substantial difference in the quality from the home dressing room (full of showers, massage tables and a big changing area) and the away one (small area and small cupboards). Next we went to the Press Room where everyone on tour sat in the conferencing seat and then we all went to the dugouts and sat in the manager’s/substitute players’ seats. Finally, for the last part of the tour we travelled to the away stand and the guide talked to us about the stadium and how it was built. Next we went back to the presentation area and when it was 2:00 the presentation began. When my piece of work came up I walked to the stage and shook hands with some of the campaign directors and then read my short story out. My prizes consisted of an English club shirt, which I chose to be Liverpool’s, two tickets to see a Sheffield United home game and also a photo of the full squad of Liverpool FC. Finally, the presentation was over and we had more time to meet the players. We had a few more photographs with my certificate and then the day was over. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this presentation and would strongly urge you to relay the message of Show Racism the Red Card. 11
