Football News
After a long and arduous season we have finally concluded the remaining fixtures which have
resulted in a season without silverware. This has not been for the lack of effort, dedication and
high levels of effort the boys and staff have put in throughout the year. A big thanks to Mr Buck
for the invaluable work he has put in with the Year 7, 8 and 10 teams and to Mr Nicol for his
assistance at the start of the year with the Year 7 team. Below is a summary of the
achievements this season:
Year 7 – (Manager Mr Buck/Mr Nicol) - the boys have struggled this year in a very competitive
Year 7 A league. Towards the end of the season, the boys started to show signs of developing
into a side which will hopefully put them in good stead next year in the B league.
Year 8 – (Manager Mr Buck) – the Year 8 team started slow, but finished on a high in the A
league this season, which culminated in a great victory over John Port who were the eventual
cup winners. This is an encouraging sign for next year, and if the boys show the same level of
commitment and team spirit it could result in silverware next season.
Year 9 – (Manager Mr Wilson) – a positive season with no reward sums up the year 9 team. A
high finish in the A league coupled with a defeat in the cup final demonstrated the boys have the
ability to compete for trophies. The boys now have to come back next year with the same
commitment, greater belief and a winning mentality and hope that success comes.
Year 10 – (Manager Mr Buck/Mr Wilson) – another tale of what could have been. A disrupted
season due to weather and boys having other commitments meant that the team was not at full
strength in every game. A fit and full strength team next year will more than definitely put them in
the position to win trophies.
Year 11 – (Manager Mr Wilson) – A disappointing end to the Year 11 season brought a semi
final loss and a mid table finish. The Year 11 team were never at full strength this year, coupled
with a strong A league meant that the boys found it tough competition, but perseverance got
them through their quota of games.
We now go back to the drawing board, get our pre-season plans in order and hope the
Headteacher gives us a big transfer kitty to allow us to buy some big name players in the
summer.
Signing off for this season, Mr Wilson - Director of Football
Basketball Summary
Once again, Littleover Community School competed in the City basketball leagues
and County cups. As with the Football teams, the season failed to bring
silverware, but showed signs of progress in a year of transition.
The Year 7 team, managed by Mr Buck showed good promise, with a good run in the County
cup reaching the semi-final, coupled with encouraging displays in the 3 city tournaments. The
Year 9 team competed well in the City leagues and County cup with numerous victories, but
missed out on silverware this year. If the boys continue to practise and stay together as a squad
next year, they should do well.
