Football News<br />

After a long and arduous season we have finally concluded the remaining fixtures which have<br />

resulted in a season without silverware. This has not been for the lack of effort, dedication and<br />

high levels of effort the boys and staff have put in throughout the year. A big thanks to Mr Buck<br />

for the invaluable work he has put in with the Year 7, 8 and 10 teams and to Mr Nicol for his<br />

assistance at the start of the year with the Year 7 team. Below is a summary of the<br />

achievements this season:<br />

Year 7 – (Manager Mr Buck/Mr Nicol) - the boys have struggled this year in a very competitive<br />

Year 7 A league. Towards the end of the season, the boys started to show signs of developing<br />

into a side which will hopefully put them in good stead next year in the B league.<br />

Year 8 – (Manager Mr Buck) – the Year 8 team started slow, but finished on a high in the A<br />

league this season, which culminated in a great victory over John Port who were the eventual<br />

cup winners. This is an encouraging sign for next year, and if the boys show the same level of<br />

commitment and team spirit it could result in silverware next season.<br />

Year 9 – (Manager Mr Wilson) – a positive season with no reward sums up the year 9 team. A<br />

high finish in the A league coupled with a defeat in the cup final demonstrated the boys have the<br />

ability to compete for trophies. The boys now have to come back next year with the same<br />

commitment, greater belief and a winning mentality and hope that success comes.<br />

Year 10 – (Manager Mr Buck/Mr Wilson) – another tale of what could have been. A disrupted<br />

season due to weather and boys having other commitments meant that the team was not at full<br />

strength in every game. A fit and full strength team next year will more than definitely put them in<br />

the position to win trophies.<br />

Year 11 – (Manager Mr Wilson) – A disappointing end to the Year 11 season brought a semi<br />

final loss and a mid table finish. The Year 11 team were never at full strength this year, coupled<br />

with a strong A league meant that the boys found it tough competition, but perseverance got<br />

them through their quota of games.<br />

We now go back to the drawing board, get our pre-season plans in order and hope the<br />

Headteacher gives us a big transfer kitty to allow us to buy some big name players in the<br />

summer.<br />

Basketball Summary<br />

Once again, <strong>Littleover</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>School</strong> competed in the City basketball leagues<br />

and County cups. As with the Football teams, the season failed to bring<br />

silverware, but showed signs of progress in a year of transition.<br />

The Year 7 team, managed by Mr Buck showed good promise, with a good run in the County<br />

cup reaching the semi-final, coupled with encouraging displays in the 3 city tournaments. The<br />

Year 9 team competed well in the City leagues and County cup with numerous victories, but<br />

missed out on silverware this year. If the boys continue to practise and stay together as a squad<br />

next year, they should do well.<br />
