Peer Evaluation
For
Lanny Wilke
2002 Evaluation
It is a privilege to support Lanny Wilke in the continuation of his contract at MSU-
Northem. Lanny has done exemplary work in the development of the current Business Education
program and has been recognized by the Office ofPublic Instruction for his contribution. Lanny
has done an immense amount of work in ensuring that the new program is in compliance with the
teaching standards set forth by both the Office of Public Instruction and NCATE accreditation.
His style of analysis is now being used by the other members in the Business Department to
develop a course-by-course compilation of entrance and exit competencies for the Business
Technology degree.
Lanny is also a driving force for the introduction of new computer application
technology as it pertains to the future of business in both the academic and work environment
settings. He has been my mentor in the development ofWebboard and Internet applications for
expanding business offerings to distance students. We often discuss the current needs of
students and how we can meet their ever-changing needs through the application of
technology, especially in the presentation skills arena.
A publishing company also recognized Lanny's expertise this year. Lanny responded to a
Management Information Systems textbook survey and went into great detail concerning the lack
of good application examples. The company contacted Lanny and asked him to write the
application examples for the text. The text with his contribution will be published in the spring.
Lanny's work with the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) continues to be exemplary as
well. Once again our students were recognized at the regional conference in Seattle for their
outstanding local work. Lanny also contributes many hours of work to this club and is quite well
known in the SIFE western conference.
The one major concern I continually have for Lanny is the potential for burnout. He
spends so much time on his classes and obligations to this university it often appears that it is his
entire existence. I was happy to see Lanny take a bit more time to go fishing this year and I
continually advise him to slow his pace. However, I know his concern for the growth in the
Business Education is a strong driving force at this time. His commitment to his Doctoral degree
relating to technology management is just part his character and will add to the potential for
burnout.
I believe Lanny is an extremely strong asset to this institution and I have absolutely
no problem supporting the continuation of his contract.
