Nominations Committee
The Nominations Committee is a committee of
the Council of Governors. The Committee is
responsible for the identification and nomination of
non-executive directors (including the Chairman),
giving consideration to succession planning and
the balance of skills, expertise and experience
required on the Board of Directors.
The Committee also oversees the terms and
conditions of employment and remuneration of all
Non-Executive Directors for the approval of the
Council of Governors.
During 2012/13 the Nominations Committee made
the following decisions, which were recommended
to and accepted by the Council of Governors:
1. Keith Lester is appointed Interim Chairman
2. Keith Lester is reappointed for a two year term
from February 2013.
3. Judy Green is reappointed for a one year term
as non-executive director from February 2013.
4. Elaine Simpson is reappointed for a one year
term from February 2013.
5. Roger Peace is appointed Non-Executive
Director for a one year term from July 2012.

l Any person who is or has been a patient/
service user of Birmingham Children’s Hospital
in the last five years
l Any person who is or has been a parent/carer
of a patient/service user of Birmingham
Children’s Hospital in the last five years
l All permanent staff members
l Any member of the public aged 10 or over who
lives in one of the following constituencies:
Birmingham
Sandwell
Solihull
Walsall, Wolverhampton and Dudley
Staffordshire and Shropshire
Coventry and Warwickshire
Herefordshire and Worcestershire

Membership Numbers
The Trust set and achieved a target of 10,000
members by 2010/11 and aimed to sustain this
level for 2012/13. The number of members in each
constituency in March 2012 and March 2013 is
shown below.

Membership Strategy
We met our membership target of 10,000 members
in 2010/11. We maintained a total membership of
over 11,000 members during 2012/13 and aim to
continue to maintain this level during 2013/14 by:
l Focussing membership communication through
the Trust’s new website, including an online
membership application form and the
development of a members area
l Encouraging young people to join the Young
Person’s Advisory Group (YPAG) and thereby
becoming Foundation Trust members if they are
not already
l Demonstrating achievements of members,
such as YPAG, to encourage new members to
join
l Supporting Governors to communicate with
members and the public
l Publicising ways for members to get involved,
including:
Consultations
Council of Governors meetings
Public Board meetings
Celebrations
Events
